Phillips, who has described himself as a “Vietnam times veteran,” told the Washington Post in 2000 that he had been “a Marine Corps infantryman,” without mentioning that he had been a refrigerator tech for most of his service….
Phillips stood toe to toe with Nick Sandmann, who was wearing a red “Make American Great Again” cap, moments after the 16-year-old and his classmates ran into several members of the Black Hebrew Israelites.
Phillips, who had just attended an Indigenous Peoples March, has said he approached the students to try to defuse the tension between them and members of the radical group.
Sandmann — whose family quickly hired the Louisville-based public relations firm RunSwitch PR — on Wednesday denied that he was “disrespectful” toward the elder after he was criticized online for appearing to smirk at Phillips.
He also told NBC’s “Today” show that he’d like a sitdown with Phillips, who has offered to visit the Kentucky school to lead a dialogue about cultural understanding.”

In reality, it is U.S. foreign policy and the very sort of deportation policies Sessions embraces that have created the “horrific violence” and “lawlessness” he expresses concern about, and there’s no reason to believe that continuing these policies will do anything other than cause more harm….
The gang Sessions pinpointed, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), was founded in Los Angeles, as was its rival, Barrio 18. Many of the youths who formed MS-13, and who joined its rival Barrio 18 (initially formed by Mexicans) had fled El Salvador as refugees as civil war raged between 1980 and 1992. At the time, the right-wing military government in El Salvador was backed by President Ronald Reagan’s administration. All in all, the U.S. spent billions of dollars on its dirty war against left-wing rebels of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, or FLMN. Wars were also ripping apart Guatemala, where the U.S.-backed military committed genocide against indigenous people, and Nicaragua, where the U.S. supported a Contra army that sought to overthrow the left-wing Sandinista government because it had dared to depose the right-wing Somoza family dictatorship…
In fiscal 2014, the Border Patrol apprehended almost 137,000 unaccompanied minors and individuals traveling with their families, the majority part of a new refugee exodus from Central America to seek asylum from violent conflicts between gangs and governments in their deeply impoverished native lands…

In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility law, which made it far easier for the government to deport people convicted of certain crimes, including relatively minor ones and crimes committed by lawful permanent residents. At the same time, the INS Violent Gang Task Force, created in 1992, was working with local police to target immigrant gang members for deportation. In 2005, ICE’s Operation Community Shield was launched to target MS-13…
..Since taking office, President Trump has proclaimed that his government is “actually liberating towns” from the gang’s clutches and falsely claimed that he has deported half of the gang’s U.S.-based membership. He has blamed “weak illegal immigration policies” under President Barack Obama for allowing the gang to spread, calling it “a serious problem” that “we never did anything about.” In fact, deporting alleged gang members had been a bipartisan priority for three presidential administrations. And for presidents from both parties, the emphasis on gangs has served the same purpose: fomenting public anxiety over crime and foreigners in the service of a system that mostly deports immigrants who have been convicted of no violent crime…
The tragic upshot is that, thanks to flashy headlines about international gang violence, people are primed to support the same sort of policies that created this spiraling crisis in the first place: deporting Central Americans, refugees and alleged gang members alike, while funding law-and-order crackdowns and business-friendly economic reforms in the region that can only make things worse. We are not importing Central American problems. Rather, it is the U.S. that has exported violence, time and again, to Central America.”

During his nearly six months in county lock-up following his arrest, he completed a rehab program. He enrolled in and completed another after his release…

The photo of a nearly 2-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother is being patted down quickly went viral. It also has been used for a Facebook fundraiser to raise more than $18 million to help reunite families that have been separated. And the whole thing culminated in its placement in a photo illustration on the cover of Time magazine. The image on the July 2 issue features the girl against a red background, with President Donald Trump towering over her and the words, “Welcome to America.”
The implication was clear: This was a girl who, like 2,300 other children, was being separated from her mother. Time and many others made a decision to suggest that this was an example of Trump uprooting our American ideals.
But that’s not what it was. As The Washington Post’s Samantha Schmidt and Kristine Phillips report, the girl’s father says the child and her mother were never separated. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol confirmed it, as did the Honduran deputy foreign minister.
The image is a sad one, but it is of a rather standard occurrence at the border: A mother and her daughter attempted to immigrate illegally and were apprehended. The mother, in fact, had tried this before and was deported in 2013. The photo says virtually nothing about Trump’s now-aborted policy. In fact, it’s an example of how not all young children were separated from their parents…”

“The original version of this story misstated what happened to the girl in the photo after she taken from the scene,” read the correction at the bottom of their cover story.
“The girl was not carried away screaming by U.S. Border Patrol agents; her mother picked her up and the two were taken away together.”
While there is no doubt the family separation policy at the border did take place, the revelation that Hernandez herself was not separated is a high-profile mistake for the iconic magazine…’

Under President Barack Obama, the US has deported almost two million undocumented immigrants, more than any of his predecessors.
Before being kicked out of the US, most of these people will spend time locked up in a detention centre. Some have criminal convictions, but the majority are detained on immigration charges.
A little-known federal law enacted in 2006 ensures that a minimum of 34,000 undocumented immigrants must be held on every single day. Private companies run most of the centres.

Galicia said conditions were so bad, he considered self-deporting just to get out — even though he has a birth certificate proving he’s American-born…
During the 23 days he was in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Galicia was not allowed to shower, he told The Dallas Morning News, which first reported his story.
The teen said he lost 26 pounds during his time in the immigrant detention center, and said officers didn’t provide him with enough food. He was crammed into an overcrowded holding area with 60 other men. They slept on the floor with aluminum-foil blankets — some even had to sleep in the bathroom area, he said…
“It was inhumane how they treated us. It got to the point where I was ready to sign a deportation paper just to not be suffering there anymore. I just needed to get out of there,” he told the newspaper. “It’s one thing to see these conditions on TV and in the news. It’s another to go through them.”

Questions about comparing immigration policies to the Holocaust are beside the point, Freiberg said.
“Compare it to the Japanese internment camps of World War II; compare it to whatever state-sanctioned violence,” she said. “The fact that we have to question whether or not it’s as bad as one of the most publicized mass genocides in the history of the world — that bar is too high. And I think it is a distraction from … the fact that people are dying, the fact that innocent people are in cages because they’re just trying to find a better life.”..

Jilmar Ramos-Gomez, a decorated Marine veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, was arrested while experiencing an episode in which he lost all recollection, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Police found the veteran, who was born and raised in Michigan, on the helipad of a hospital after he started a small fire and pulled an alarm, according to reports.
Mr Ramos-Gomez was set to be released from jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanour trespassing charge, but was instead turned over to ICE by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, which reportedly has a contract with the federal immigration enforcement agency.
“The fact that he has the name that he does, that he’s of the ethnic background that he is, almost certainly played a role,” Miriam Aukerman, a senior attorney for the ACLU of Michigan, told CNN…”

The number of suicides in the U.S. has been steadily rising since 1999, especially among women.
Between 1999 and 2014, the overall suicide rate climbed 24 percent, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s a rate of 13 per 100,000 people.
While rates for males remained higher, suicide among females rose 45 percent.
And among young girls between the ages of 10-14, the rate rose 200 percent to 1.5 per 100,000 people, though the number of suicides within that group still remained comparatively low.
Women ages 45-64 had the second-largest increase: 63 percent to 9.8 per 100,000 people.
The CDC report doesn’t go into what could be behind the change, but it’s worth noting the greatest increases happened between 2006 and 2014 — during and after a major economic recession in the U.S.

During high school, I had 3 classmates (one was a former close friend of mine) from my class that committed suicide. It was very difficult for me back then and somewhat still to this day as I’ve wrestled with some “thoughts” of regret (see story of forgiveness) .

Finding Hope?
I found “hope” when I got to college. Suicide thoughts became a non-issue for me as I found a personal relationship with God. My friends would tell me the “good news” and I saw a lot of joy and hope in their life, which drew me to want that same “thing” they had. I would later also get a “bigger” perspective of life by listening to other people’s “more” challenging life issues. I started to realize what I was going through was “less challenging” compared to others. I learned about the blessings I really had along, which I never thought about it until I reflected how much more “grateful” and “thankful” to God more of what I have despite the “challenges” I’ve faced.

I thought the cast at the University of Minnesota-Morris theater group did a superb job “performance” wise. They are one very talented group (e.g. singing and acting)!
During one of the scenes when the student was going to tell his dad the “bad” news that he ‘ll be expelled or something. He was seen as a “failure” and “embarassment” to his dad, which he would get physically abused. Unfortunately, he would commit suicide. This brought up my indirect experience in high school when 3 classmates from my class were killed in different ways (one commited suicide too with a gun). This also brought me to one of the scenes from an old school movie called “Dead Poets Society”..

In the immediate wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., it’s too soon to know whether federal or state governments will enact new restrictions on gun purchases or ownership. It’s also too early to foresee whether Congress or state legislatures will enact new policies to deal with mentally ill Americans.
For better or worse, the new policies would need to be determined in the political arena, with electoral accountability, and most members of Congress have shown no interest in going beyond the last major legislation to regulate gun purchases or ownership in 1994.
President Barack Obama’s initial comment Friday afternoon at the White House suggested that he wishes the policy decisions could be made above or aside from politics. “We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics,” Obama said

Megyn Kelly Panel Clashes Over Stricter Gun Control To Prevent Mass Shootings -Heated Debate
On Friday afternoon, Megyn Kelly’s panel — comprised of pro-gun advocate John Lott and pro-gun control advocate Lori Haas — debated how effective gun control legislation would be in quelling the string of gun violence the country as seen. What effect, Kelly asked, would gun control laws really have?
Lott, who’s made his case before, reiterated his argument that gun-free zones give criminals incentive to attack areas they know are vulnerable. “Let’s say, God forbid, a criminal was stalking you or your family,” Lott said. “Would you feel safer putting a sign on your home that said, this home is a gun-free zone?”
To the contrary, Haas, of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, offered a much different perspective, having been directly affected by such incidents. About five years ago, Haas’ daughter, Emily, was shot twice in the back of the head when a gunman opened fire on Virginia Tech’s campus. He was using a high-capacity magazine clip, Haas said — and state police said when they were banned, the use of those clips in crime was down. But when the ban expired, the incidents of those clips in crimes increased.
“It’s unacceptable in America we allow this to happen to our children and that we see the answer to gun violence as more guns,” Haas argued.
“Guns make it easier for bad things to happen,” Lott said. “But they also have benefits in terms of protecting people in terms of protecting people who are being threatened by crime.”
To Haas’ point, Lott argued that he has yet to see evidence that banning certain high-capacity magazine clips has had any benefit. As Kelly turned the discussion to the gunman, Haas went on to argue the mental health aspect of the problem, asserting that people who are mentally ill or have violent tendencies should have more difficulty getting guns.

Dallas police Chief David Brown stated that Micah Johnson, the alleged lone gunman, was killed with a bomb-carrying robot on the 2nd floor of the Bank of America Parking Plaza, which is south of Main Street from the El Centro College complex…
Many media reports have tended to focus on the garage as the source of the shooting, but this is highly misleading. All of the initial gunfire, which happened just before 9:00 PM, in fact came from Lamar Street where a man parked an SUV and began shooting with what was reported to be an SKS rifle. There were no shots from the garage at this time.
Multiple angles from various pieces of amateur footage allow for the location of the shooter to be determined.
The first vantage point (red V1 in image above) was taken from a parking lot looking northwest towards the intersection of Lamar and Main. Squad cars which had been parked at that intersection for the protests can be seen, along with officers who have been struck and are lying on the pavement. Notice that the one officer is ducking behind his car to shield himself from bullets travelling south along Lamar.
Another vantage point, V3, was taken from the 2nd level of the Bank of America Parking Plaza, the same level where Micah Johnson is alleged to have been bombed by police. Once again you can see the same squad cars and officers ducking from gunfire which is originating from behind the SUV. In the video, you can see the gunman step out from behind the SUV, fire several shots for cover, and then duck behind a pillar of the El Centro College building.

“The people that were on the scene and saw this happen also reported that three tall white men wearing black shirts, khaki pants and tanned combat boots were actually the shooters. President Barack Obama on Sunday called the California shooting an “act of terrorism” and said the couple who launched the attack “had gone down the dark path of radicalization.”
“They had stockpiled assault weapons, ammunition and pipe bombs. So this was an act of terrorism,” he claimed.
Kelley said “the people that are being implicated – the couple — first of all if they were planning something, if they were radicalized as this is being said, and clearly the NSA, the FBI will be right on the top of these people all the time, but rather than stopping them from doing something, they were nurtured to be used for this exact purpose.”
“I do not suspect that these people have anything to do with the actual shooting. I suspect that these were patsies, no different than Timothy McVeigh or any of these other people who have historically been used to implement these terrorist acts,” the commentator said.
“If you look at the people that were wounded you can see clearly that bullet wounds are not real. The 223 weapon or bullets fired from AR15 – an extremely powerful weapon — would blow someone’s arm off, it is not going to make a small hole,” said Kelley, who is also a weapons expert.
“So clearly this is a very very dirty false flag. Obviously, the United States is getting very very desperate; the government here is very desperate, they need to do something immediately to disarm the United States prior to a revolution, because the people here are waking up very fast, and they are ready to shut down this evil empire. In his televised address from the Oval Office, Obama called for tougher gun controls, starting with a ban on gun purchases for anyone on a US government no-fly list. “To begin with, Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun.”
“What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semiautomatic weapon? This is a matter of national security,” he stated.
Obama has said the “biggest frustration” of his time in the office has been the inability to reduce unparalleled levels of gun violence in the country.

I remember being teased back in middle school/junior high and was called many names that I started to believe. For example, my physical features (e.g. “big eyes”, “Yoda”, “big nose”, “shorty”, “terrorist”, “you look like the enemy” (Persian Gulf War at the time), racist remarks , sexuality, etc..) weren’t the same with the people around me-who does anyways? -God has made us all uniquely-beautiful-and different! You may want to concede the point that, even after limitations are established in the states, there will always be abortionists willing to break the law and exploit vulnerable women for financial gain. But because a destructive activity will not be completely eradicated is no reason to make or keep it legal (think of drug laws or laws against prostitution). No compassionate person wants a woman to suffer through the personal tragedy of abortion, whether legal or illegal. As Feminists for Life says, women deserve better than abortion. Establishing legal limits to the current “absolute right to abortion” will mean fewer abortions, and that is to the good of women, children, families, and society.
There are a number of points to make regarding the charge that countless women will die.
First, it is impossible to calculate the number of maternal deaths from abortion before Roe v. Wade because they were not reported, so any claim regarding the number of maternal deaths from illegal abortions is purely speculative. However, it is a fact that abortion industry insider Bernard Nathanson admitted to circulating false numbers. Dr. Nathanson co-founded NARAL (originally called the National Alliance to Repeal Abortion Laws and, today, NARAL Pro-Choice America) and was director of the Center for Reproductive and Sexual Health in New York City, at one time the largest abortion clinic in the western world. In 1979 Nathanson said:

Wade according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,[46] and this is likely only a fraction of the actual number in light of the fact that several states (including, significantly, California) have failed to report abortion data for many years[47] and in light of the latitude given to doctors in reporting causes of death (e.g., “hemorrhage” rather than “induced abortion.”)[48]
Third, the experience of other countries shows that restricting abortion does not cause a rise in maternal deaths. Despite its tight abortion restrictions, Ireland has the lowest maternal mortality rate in the world, according to a study by several agencies at the United Nations.[49] Malta also has substantial abortion limitations and yet has among the lowest maternal death rate world-wide, lower than the United States.[50] Data compiled by Polish government agencies shows a marked decrease in maternal deaths once abortion was made illegal.[51]

In fact, our country is not divided down the middle on abortion, but most of America is substantially with us. King – Just after I turned 14, the coven members came to me and said that I was going to be involved in an abortion in about 9 months. There was a sex party with all the male members between 12 and 15 and a female member over 18 and her purpose was to get pregnant, and then she was going to have an abortion in 9 months. When I was told this, I said “cool” out loud, but had no clue what an abortion was. In my family, I think I heard my parents whisper the word abortion once when talking about somebody else, so I thought it was a dirty word because they whispered it and I had never heard that word anywhere else. When I asked about what an abortion was to the coven members, I said I don’t know what I have to do here, they explained that there’s a baby in the womb and you are going to kill it. There will be an abortion doctor there to help you and there will be a nurse because it’s a full medical procedure. My first question was, “is that legal?” The response was, “Yes it is, as long as it’s in the womb. As long as the baby is still inside the woman, you can kill it.”..”

I got picked on, beat-up, identity issues, etc… Some of the challenges many of us faced growing-up. How did you deal with it? Fortunately, I just got picked on, spat-on, teased because I looked “different” (e.g. thus suffered with my identity), but not “beat-up”. I was very much small in height compared with my peers at my school (Battle Creek) , so I never even tried to “fight-back” with the peers that picked on me. Why did I get picked on? Not sure most of the time, but some were because I was a very studious “nerdy” looking Asian geek. They knew I did my homework, so one of them asked me to do his homework. I said “no” because I didn’t want to be used, so he pushed me against the lockers. Fortunately, one of my tall friends stuck-up for me, but he ended up getting pushed too. During this time, one of the teachers that happened to witness this intervened. This doesn’t always happen to many! Maybe God was watching me already..

What about peer pressure? Ever got pressured to smoke or do drugs? I was fortunate to be strong-willed enough to say “no” to drugs or smoking. I guess I remember there was a speaker that came to our classroom with a hole in his throat, which freaked-scared me growing-up. Thus, I never ever smoked and will never even try it in the future!
.Anyways, some friends and I were talking about these “traumatic years” during this past weekend Men’s Retreat as the “worst years”. How about for you? Worst or Glory years?
