Trump Feeding “Tear Away” Immigrant Kids to America’s “Elite Pedophiles” By Gordon Duff, Senior Editor – June 17, 2018 veteranstoday.com

In America, it began with “boy’s homes” and detention centers. It began with teenage boys but, as it moved on, it became smaller and smaller children…

Kids that hit the US border, and this is Trump’s doing 100%, are picked through like meat, the “prime kids” are sent off to pedophile rings run by Trump cronies, to be passed around Pentagon brass, Tea Party get togethers and among the GOP faithful. They are stored at elite hunting “camps” and “religious retreats” owned by billionaires and big corporate donors. “The Trump administration has said its “zero tolerance” policy on immigration is an effort to deter individuals from entering the U.S. illegally.

Fact-checking immigration spin on separating families and 1,500 ‘lost’ children
By Salvador Rizzo | The Washington Post Published: May 30 Updated: May 30, 2018 sltrib.com

Trump blames Democrats for a law that separates undocumented immigrant children from their families. Some Democrats blame Trump’s administration for losing track of nearly 1,500 immigrant kids.

None of this is accurate.

We’ve fact-checked many claims about the border, and it’s clear that the latest spin from both sides deserves a turn under the microscope. However, since this is a roundup of multiple claims, we won’t be giving Pinocchio ratings.

How the US’s Foreign Policy Created an Immigrant Refugee Crisis on Its Own Southern Border By James NorthTwitter
July 9, 2014 thenation.com

President Obama is showing little concern for international law, and none at all for Washington’s historic responsibility in Central America.

“..
…The Ramirezes (their names have been changed to protect them from retribution) got through Mexico and crossed the Rio Grande just south of here safely, but Esperanza, who is 24, has had to live with violence her entire life. She and her daughter had just fled the most dangerous city in the world, San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where the two biggest criminal gangs, which have memberships across the region in the tens of thousands, fight with automatic weapons. The city has become a war zone, with a murder rate of 193 per 100,000 (New York City’s rate is 5.1). Angelica’s father died in gang-related violence a couple of years ago. “In some neighborhoods, people are abandoning their homes from fear,” she said. “The gangs are even murdering 8-year-old kids who will not join them.” …

Americans, especially young Americans, probably know more about the 1994 genocide in Rwanda than they do about how their own government funded murderous right-wing dictatorships in Central America back in the 1980s. The Reagan administration’s violent and immoral policy included $5 billion in aid to the military/landowner alliance in El Salvador, which prolonged an awful conflict in which some 75,000 people died—a toll proportionally equivalent to the casualty rate in the American Civil War. But once shaky peace agreements were signed in the 1990s, the United States walked away, leaving the shattered region to rebuild on its own. ..

The very name of one of the giant criminal gangs—18th Street, or Calle 18—reveals the origins of the current crisis. Eighteenth Street is not in San Pedro Sula, or in San Salvador, or in any of the other Central American cities torn apart by gang warfare. Eighteenth Street is actually in Los Angeles, where the gang and its rival, the Mara Salvatrucha, were born among young Salvadorans who had been displaced by the civil war in the 1980s. After the United States started deporting gang members, they arrived back in Central America, some barely speaking Spanish and knowing only how to do one thing: grab the weapons the region was already awash in and start killing. During the decade-long civil war, family and community life had weakened, so the newly arrived gangs partly filled a vacuum…

Here in McAllen, the community center of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church has become a relief station for adults with children who are pouring across the border in the Rio Grande Valley. Children who are by themselves do not come here; they are held in the overcrowded Border Patrol detention centers until a relative who is already in the United States sends them funds for an air ticket to join them, pending a resolution of their immigration case. (Roughly 90 percent of the Central Americans already have a family member in the United States.) ..”

Why Central Americans are fleeing their violent homelands for the US By Danika Fears and Lorena Mongelli April 13, 2017 | 1:26am | Updated nypost.com
“..n 2016, El Salvador’s murder rate was 81.2 per 100,000 inhabitants — down from 104 in 2015, the highest in the world. Honduras’ murder rate was 59 last year, while Guatemala’s was 27.3, dropping from a high of 46.5 in 2009.

“There’s no such thing as people going out jogging there,” Ana Quintana, a policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation, said of Honduras. “There are 24-hour funeral homes. It’s incredibly sad.”

Civil wars rocked El Salvador and Guatemala until the mid-1990s, leaving them vulnerable to transnational crime outfits — like MS-13, which was created by Salvadorans who fled to LA.

Drug trafficking from South America and Mexico — in which some of the gangs have become involved — has also contributed to the bloodshed.

In 2014, US officials said 80 percent of drug flows into America pass through routes in Central America…”

Deporting people made Central America’s gangs. More deportation won’t help. By Daniel Denvir July 20, 2017 washingtonpost.com
‘..“MS-13 is one of the most vicious criminal gangs in this country today,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “As I said when I visited Long Island after these murders took place in April, MS-13’s motto may be ‘kill, rape and control,’ but the Department of Justice’s motto is justice for victims and consequences for criminals.” In April, Sessions made a stop on his immigrants-are-killing-Americans tour in Long Island, where he went further into his view of transnational gangs…

In reality, it is U.S. foreign policy and the very sort of deportation policies Sessions embraces that have created the “horrific violence” and “lawlessness” he expresses concern about, and there’s no reason to believe that continuing these policies will do anything other than cause more harm….

The gang Sessions pinpointed, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), was founded in Los Angeles, as was its rival, Barrio 18. Many of the youths who formed MS-13, and who joined its rival Barrio 18 (initially formed by Mexicans) had fled El Salvador as refugees as civil war raged between 1980 and 1992. At the time, the right-wing military government in El Salvador was backed by President Ronald Reagan’s administration. All in all, the U.S. spent billions of dollars on its dirty war against left-wing rebels of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, or FLMN. Wars were also ripping apart Guatemala, where the U.S.-backed military committed genocide against indigenous people, and Nicaragua, where the U.S. supported a Contra army that sought to overthrow the left-wing Sandinista government because it had dared to depose the right-wing Somoza family dictatorship…

In fiscal 2014, the Border Patrol apprehended almost 137,000 unaccompanied minors and individuals traveling with their families, the majority part of a new refugee exodus from Central America to seek asylum from violent conflicts between gangs and governments in their deeply impoverished native lands…

. In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility law, which made it far easier for the government to deport people convicted of certain crimes, including relatively minor ones and crimes committed by lawful permanent residents. At the same time, the INS Violent Gang Task Force, created in 1992, was working with local police to target immigrant gang members for deportation. In 2005, ICE’s Operation Community Shield was launched to target MS-13…

..Since taking office, President Trump has proclaimed that his government is “actually liberating towns” from the gang’s clutches and falsely claimed that he has deported half of the gang’s U.S.-based membership. He has blamed “weak illegal immigration policies” under President Barack Obama for allowing the gang to spread, calling it “a serious problem” that “we never did anything about.” In fact, deporting alleged gang members had been a bipartisan priority for three presidential administrations. And for presidents from both parties, the emphasis on gangs has served the same purpose: fomenting public anxiety over crime and foreigners in the service of a system that mostly deports immigrants who have been convicted of no violent crime…

The tragic upshot is that, thanks to flashy headlines about international gang violence, people are primed to support the same sort of policies that created this spiraling crisis in the first place: deporting Central Americans, refugees and alleged gang members alike, while funding law-and-order crackdowns and business-friendly economic reforms in the region that can only make things worse. We are not importing Central American problems. Rather, it is the U.S. that has exported violence, time and again, to Central America.”

Commentary: Time magazine’s major mistake on the crying-girl cover Time magazine’s cover for July 2, 2018. (Time)
Aaron Blake chicagotribune.com/
“..Unfortunately, they made their most iconic image something that wasn’t a family being separated — and ultimately undermines their cause.

The photo of a nearly 2-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother is being patted down quickly went viral. It also has been used for a Facebook fundraiser to raise more than $18 million to help reunite families that have been separated. And the whole thing culminated in its placement in a photo illustration on the cover of Time magazine. The image on the July 2 issue features the girl against a red background, with President Donald Trump towering over her and the words, “Welcome to America.”

The implication was clear: This was a girl who, like 2,300 other children, was being separated from her mother. Time and many others made a decision to suggest that this was an example of Trump uprooting our American ideals.

But that’s not what it was. As The Washington Post’s Samantha Schmidt and Kristine Phillips report, the girl’s father says the child and her mother were never separated. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol confirmed it, as did the Honduran deputy foreign minister.

The image is a sad one, but it is of a rather standard occurrence at the border: A mother and her daughter attempted to immigrate illegally and were apprehended. The mother, in fact, had tried this before and was deported in 2013. The photo says virtually nothing about Trump’s now-aborted policy. In fact, it’s an example of how not all young children were separated from their parents…”

While there is no doubt the family separation policy at the border did take place, the revelation that Hernandez herself was not separated is a high-profile mistake for the iconic magazine…’

Under President Barack Obama, the US has deported almost two million undocumented immigrants, more than any of his predecessors.

Before being kicked out of the US, most of these people will spend time locked up in a detention centre. Some have criminal convictions, but the majority are detained on immigration charges.

A little-known federal law enacted in 2006 ensures that a minimum of 34,000 undocumented immigrants must be held on every single day. Private companies run most of the centres.

The BBC’s Franz Strasser went to Georgia to investigate America’s $2bn (£1.2bn) detention and deportation industry.

During the 23 days he was in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Galicia was not allowed to shower, he told The Dallas Morning News, which first reported his story.

The teen said he lost 26 pounds during his time in the immigrant detention center, and said officers didn’t provide him with enough food. He was crammed into an overcrowded holding area with 60 other men. They slept on the floor with aluminum-foil blankets — some even had to sleep in the bathroom area, he said…

“It was inhumane how they treated us. It got to the point where I was ready to sign a deportation paper just to not be suffering there anymore. I just needed to get out of there,” he told the newspaper. “It’s one thing to see these conditions on TV and in the news. It’s another to go through them.”

On Aug. 10 and 11, Jewish organizations are coordinating #CloseTheCamps events on Tisha B’Av, a Jewish day of mourning.

The Torah commands Jewish people to love the stranger as one of their own, and the majority of Jews in the U.S. have an immigration story, said Carin Mrotz, executive director of Jewish Community Action (JCA), which organizes Jewish Minnesotans for social change.

“That story also involves not being welcome. … Often in moments of history when we have not been welcome, we have come anyway,” she said. “So we have all of these textual but also historical and cultural and traditional reasons why we tend to prioritize immigrant rights.”..

Mia Freiberg, a 25-year-old Minneapolis activist who is also helping coordinate the event, has long been aware of border issues, having grown up in San Diego. And social justice has always been a strong tenet of the Jewish community, she said: There’s a Jewish experience of being part of a diaspora and a persecuted minority group.

Questions about comparing immigration policies to the Holocaust are beside the point, Freiberg said.

“Compare it to the Japanese internment camps of World War II; compare it to whatever state-sanctioned violence,” she said. “The fact that we have to question whether or not it’s as bad as one of the most publicized mass genocides in the history of the world — that bar is too high. And I think it is a distraction from … the fact that people are dying, the fact that innocent people are in cages because they’re just trying to find a better life.”..

“..But while we can (and should) feel strongly about different political and social issues, as Christians, we’re called to respond to authority with respect. Rather than bucking the system, sticking it to the man, insulting or talking back, Christians are taught in the Bible to respond to authority with honor. This starts with honoring God, who holds authority over the whole universe….

What About Government and Politics?
The Bible also says Christians should honor, respect, pray for and obey authorities in positions of government. It would deliver up to 570,000 barrels of what the company calls its “light, sweet crude,” fracked in North Dakota’s Bakken and Three Forks fields.

The pipeline is to cross 209 rivers, creeks and tributaries, including the nations longest river, the Missouri, which is the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s main source of drinking and irrigation water. It will also destroy tribal burial grounds and sacred sites.

The Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition representing farmers, ranchers, environmentalists, student and local community organizations along the pipeline route as well as nationwide, has been fighting the pipeline since late 2014. On August 25, just days before the September 3rd assault, more than 30 national and tribal environmental organizations had joined together to write President Obama a letter calling on President Obama to stop the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. And on September 9, minutes after a federal judge declined the Tribe’s request for an injunction to stop construction on the pipeline, the Obama administration made a surprise announcement that it would not permit the project to continue for now. Continued action is essential to keep the pipeline from being built…”

How to Contact the 17 Banks Funding the Dakota Access Pipeline Emily Fuller posted Sep 29, 2016 Updated Nov. 30, 2016 yesmagazine.org
Here are CEO names, emails, and phone numbers—because banks have choices when it comes to what projects they give loans to.
“..Food & Water Watch researcher Hugh MacMillan: “Ask these banks to clarify whether funds they are providing are being used, in any amount, to pay for the heavily militarized response to the Standing Rock Sioux, including the attack dogs, sound-cannon trucks, heavily armed officers.”

“People should also ask these institutions why they are sinking so much money into maximizing the amounts of oil and gas that can be brought to the surface and burned at a time when climate science is clear we have to maximize what we keep in the ground instead,” said MacMillan.

The organization’s deputy communications director, Seth Gladstone, suggests saying: “As a customer of your financial institution, I reject the notion of my money helping to support your investment in the Dakota Access pipeline, an inherently dangerous and unjust oil pipeline that threatens air and water quality in many states, and violates sacred lands of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. I urge you to give up your financial stake in the Dakota Access pipeline immediately.”

Here are names of CEOs and other bank executives involved in these decisions—along with their phone numbers and email addresses. The first 17 banks (*) are directly funding the Dakota Access pipeline. The rest of these banks are offering credit lines to its parent companies: Sunoco Logistics, Energy Transfer Partners, and Energy Transfer Equity.

The following bank information has been updated periodically, most recently Nov. 30, 2016. Some banks have disconnected phones and disabled email addresses since the start of the campaign. Contact us with adjustments..”

An Open Letter To Investors In The Dakota Access Pipeline November 29th, 2016 by Susanna Schick cleantechnica.com
“..While Norwegian investors pull out because the DAPL does not meet their Corporate Social Responsibility requirements, and Energy Transfer Partners sells its company to Sunoco to better compete against Russia, I would like to propose that all investors pull their funds from this project, as there are other energy projects with a much higher ROI that actually build a stronger US economy. I am addressing Goldman Sachs because of its stated commitment to environmental stewardship and its long track record of successful investments.

Dear Mr. Blankfein,

As one of the best investment banks in the world, Goldman Sachs’ job is to keep one foot firmly planted in the future. The oil industry is dying, and “energy” companies that refuse to expand into other forms of energy will die along with it. Do you wish you’d invested in a film camera company 15 years ago? This is the same situation, but with a much bigger industry.

As a journalist covering clean tech, I’ve seen the future, and it’s electric. This was never more clear than on October 28th, when Tesla announced its Powerpack 2 batteries, grid-scale batteries twice as energy dense at the same price. Customers like SoCal Edison will install them next month to decrease their dependency on natural gas, the main commodity ETP offers. The same commodity which recently caused the biggest methane leak ever in the US…”

Major Victory! One of the Largest Banks Funding DAPL Just Pulled Its Assets from the Project Claire Bernish November 18, 2016 thefreethoughtproject.com
“Water protectors from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe can now declare their most tangible victory to date — one of the heftiest investors in the Dakota Access Pipeline, Norway’s largest bank, has pulled its assets from the project.

Just 10 days ago, DNB warned it might withdraw funding for construction of the contentious pipeline if concerns raised by the Standing Rock Sioux were not addressed promptly…

“The news that DNB has sold its assets and is considering terminating its loans is a victory for the water protectors who are fighting to stop this disaster of a project. All financial institutions with a stake in the pipeline must quickly realize that financing this project is toxic. It would be smart for them to get out ahead of the growing movement of customers looking to divest from banks that finance the destruction of our planet and ignore Indigenous rights and sovereignty. Citigroup, TD Securities, Wells Fargo, SunTrust, and the other banks backing this project should see this as a sign to get on the right side of history…”
Financing Dakota Access Pipeline puts US bank in more hot water Frank Hopper • December 13, 2016 indiancountrymedianetwork.com
“…Under the proposed legislation the city’s current contract with Wells Fargo, which ends in one year, on December 31, 2017, would not be renewed. In the meantime, the city would “enter into a voluntary debarment agreement with Wells Fargo Bank for a period of at least one year, and refrain from conducting banking, investment, or other business with Wells Fargo Bank for a period of at least one year when it is in the City’s discretion.”..

Why Wells Fargo?

While many different banks are financing the Dakota Access Pipeline, research by Food & Water Watch identifies 17 banks as loaning directly to Dakota Access LLC. Most are located in other countries such as France, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Germany, England and Spain. Of those located in the U.S., only two are large with many branch offices: Wells Fargo and Citibank. Wells Fargo is being targeted because it is the most visible of the U.S. banks financing the pipeline, loaning close to $500 million for its construction.

Additionally, federal regulators recently revealed a scandal involving Wells Fargo employees who opened over 2 million unauthorized bank and credit card accounts in the names of customers, apparently to hit sales targets and make money on fees. Approximately 5,300 Wells Fargo employees have been fired.

And if that weren’t reason enough, in 2012 the U.S. Department of Justice forced Wells Fargo to pay $175 million after it was determined they engaged in discriminatory lending practices against black and Hispanic borrowers…”
How Standing Rock’s Divest Campaign Can Stop Future Pipelines
By Colby Devitt | December 19, 2016 billmoyers.com
As banks begin to respond, environmental movements are learning the importance of speaking clearly about the financial risks of fossil fuel investment.
Between Now and Trump, We Must #DefundDAPL December 16, 2016 gofossilfree.org
“…On December 4th, the Obama Administration announced that it will not grant Energy Transfer Partners the final permit for the Dakota Access Pipeline to drill under the Missouri River, and called for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the project. This milestone is a testament to the amazing movement that indigenous leadership and the camps at Standing Rock have led, and has re-defined what is possible when thousands of people come together to peacefully resist.

But the fight to stop Dakota Access isn’t over — and right now, before Trump comes into office, is a critical moment.

We can’t say for certain what will happen when Trump’s in office, and we don’t know how an attempt to reverse this decision will play out in the courts – so right now it’s crucial that we use another source of our strength to stop this project: our financial power and collective pressure.

The divestment movement has already shown the power of moving our money and rejecting the social license of the fossil fuel industry. Just this week, it was announced that total assets committed to divest surpass $5 trillion. Now we need to turn that power and momentum to Dakota Access.

The Dakota Access pipeline is being financed in various ways by 17 banks (here’s a list with contact info for each). ..”

Is Your Bank Funding DAPL? Here’s How to Find One That Isn’t Gerald Mitchell posted Dec 01, 2016 yesmagazine.org
There’s an entire industry of ethically minded banks and financial institutions out there to choose from.
“..Every day in December has been declared a day of action for those protecting sacred ground and water from the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline. While most of us can’t be there in person, a growing number of supporters are taking action by breaking up with banks that are funding the pipeline. As an act of solidarity with the water protectors at Standing Rock, this also helps put pressure on the banks to change their practices now and in the future. But closing your megabank account raises the question: Where should I move my money?

Luckily, there’s an entire industry of ethically minded banks and financial institutions out there to choose from. While they aren’t always guaranteed to have a clean environmental record, they do invest locally and in underserved areas. And they are also almost certainly not funding DAPL and trampling on indigenous sovereignty…”

“…Among those companies with the most awful records are some of the usual suspects in the oil and mining industries but Covalence also found some lesser-known offenders….

#10 Total SA
French oil and gas company Total has been accused of building a pipeline with the aid of slave labor in Myanmar. In addition, in 1999 one of the company’s oil tankers, the Erika, which had 30,000 tons of oil on board, sunk off of the coast of Brittany. A French court later asked the company to compensate the victims of the spill…

#6 Occidental Petroleum Corporation
Occidental, one of America’s largest oil and gas companies, has been involved in a number of territory disputes in multiple countries, including Ecuador and Colombia. The company also drew ire from environmentalists in 2005, when it proposed building a road through Ecuador’s Yasuní National Park.

#3 Chevron Corp.
Chevron, the oil and gas behemoth, has been accused of tax evasion as well a number of environmental infractions in several countries around the world. But perhaps most controversial was a 1998 episode in Nigeria: after protesters took hostages as part of a demonstration against the company, Nigerian soldiers shot at the demonstrators, killing two. Chevron was accused of facilitating the transport of the soldiers, known for their “general history of committing abuses,” to the scene. The company, however, was cleared of the charges in 2008…

#2 Halliburton Company
After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Halliburton, the oil and gas company famously associated with former Vice President Dick Cheney, was accused of unfairly procuring billions of dollars in government contracts for oil repair in the country.

Peace: How can we live with Muslims?

I decided to write this after seeing all the “negativity” towards this religion of Islam. As a Christian, my heart goes out for them with all the “bad” media in social networking lately. I also “feel” for them because of my personal experiences of “racism” and being falsely accused as a “terrorist”.

I remember during the Persian Gulf War (early 90’s), a so-called “friend” was joking that I looked like the “enemy”. Then after 9-11, a couple of kids said I “looked” like a “terrorist”. This was so embedded in my mind that I remember I was afraid of leaving my house after the 9-11 attacks as I was scared of people accusing me as a “terrorist”. In fact, I remember some couple emotionally spilled their gut to me saying, “We let “them” come to our country and they do this to “us”.

The “media” got many of “us” to go through “Islamaphobia”. I was even scared of mingling with some “newcomers” to Morris from Pakistan that happened to be Muslim. I ended up befriending him and would end up housing 2 more Muslims to live with me afterwards.

My view of “Muslims” totally changed after these experiences and now I’m trying to do my best to change the “negative” image the “media” has protrayed on them.

What is Eid al-Adha? – YouTube

Appreciating Eid al-Adha through the Biblical Texts Gallery November 9, 2011 ifeldp.wordpress.com
“..This week, Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid al-Adha or Qurbani Aid – the festival of sacrifice – to commemorate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his only son upon Allah’s command. This festival also marks the end of Hajj. According to Muslims’ account, Allah spared Ishmael upon seeing Abraham’s devotion and commanded him to sacrifice a ram instead.

The animal sacrificed for Eid al-Adha is cut in thirds, one third is donated to those less fortunate, one third offered to friends, and one third eaten in a celebratory dinner with family. Muslims who could afford to give symbolizes their willingness to give up upon Allah’s command through this animal sacrifice.

While the Islamic teaching says that Ibrahim (Abraham) was commanded by God to sacrifice Ishmael, Christians believe that Isaac was the one to be sacrificed. Among philosophers and theologians in the modern times, the rhetoric of the discourse was not on who was supposed to be sacrificed, but leaned towards principled and ethical questions. Soren Kierkeegard, for example, purported that ethical standards did not apply to divine command…”

Can Christians Trust Muslim Hospitality? JAYSON CASPER AUGUST 24, 2018 10:32 AM christianitytoday.com
Arab theologians counsel Americans fearful of “taqiyya,” Islam’s alleged permission to lie, around Eid al-Adha and Ramadan holidays.
“..The holiest of Islam’s two yearly holidays is Eid al-Adha; in Arabic, “the feast of the sacrifice.” This week, on August 21, Muslims worldwide slaughtered sheep, remembering how God saved Abraham from sacrificing his son Ishmael.

Wait, Ishmael? Not Isaac?

Though the Qur‘an doesn’t name the son, Muslims believe it was the ancestor of the Arabs that God used to test Abraham’s faith. Should Christians understand this as a theological error? Or an outright lie?

The identification matters, because Isaac is a prefiguration of Jesus, whose sacrifice saved man from his sins. Religions often have differing traditions; and for Christians, Muhammad’s conscience in founding Islam is unknown. But some Christians today are comfortable delving into the conscience of everyday, ordinary Muslims, finding deception at every turn.

The idea is called taqiyya: that Muslims are permitted by their faith to lie if it will advance the cause of their religion….

But beyond extremists, certainly some Muslims have an agenda. How can the American Christian discern? And should some Christians examine themselves?

“The Bible calls us to love our neighbors and our enemies. It is impossible to know someone’s intentions with certainty, and anyone is capable of having negative intentions,” said Salim Munayer, executive director of the Jerusalem-based Musalaha reconciliation ministry…

Munayer agreed with Accad’s perspective on taqiyya, and described positive interfaith initiatives in the Holy Land. But he had a message to share from one minority to another.

“We should encourage Muslims in America to speak up for religious freedom for Christians in the Middle East, where Christians are a minority,” he said….

Rather than trying to judge whether or not a Muslim is practicing taqiyya, Wahba recommended 1 Corinthians 13.

“Love believes all things,” he said. “If you fear a Muslim is not honest, it will build walls. But love will go to him and build bridges, and be a means of witness to the gospel.”

Practically speaking, do not be afraid to join Muslims if invited to holiday celebrations, whether the recent Eid or Ramadan’s iftar fast-breaking. Trust God is at work no matter their heart, said Wahba.

“Love is stronger than lying. It is not about them, it is about me.”

Two men stabbed to death on Oregon train trying to stop anti-Muslim rant Sat May 27, 2017 | 8:42pm EDT reuters.com

By Alex Dobuzinskis

(Reuters) – A man fatally stabbed two passengers aboard a Portland, Oregon, commuter train after they tried to stop him from harassing two young women who appeared to be Muslim, police said on Saturday.

Police identified the assailant, who was arrested soon after the Friday afternoon attack, as Jeremy Joseph Christian of Portland, a 35-year-old convicted felon.

A senior researcher with the Southern Poverty Law Center, in a blog post, said Christian’s Facebook page showed he held “some racist and other extremist beliefs.”

The attack unfolded hours before the start of Ramadan, Islam’s holy month, when most of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims observe a daily religious fast.

Christian started shouting ethnic and religious slurs, apparently at the two young women, one of whom wore a Muslim head-covering, the Portland Police Department said in a statement.

Three men who intervened were stabbed. Ricky John Best, 53, of Happy Valley, Oregon died at the scene, while Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, 23, of Southeast Portland died at a hospital, police said. A third victim, Micah David-Cole Fletcher of 21, Southeast Portland, remained in a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Christian was booked on two counts of aggravated murder and charges of attempted murder, intimidation and being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon, and was ordered held without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.

The women, who had left the train before officers arrived, were later in contact with authorities, according to police, who have not released their identities.

Dyjuana Hudson, the mother of one of them, told The Oregonian newspaper her 16-year-old daughter, who is black, boarded the train with a Muslim friend, also a teenager, who was wearing a hijab.

The attacker approached the girls while screaming at them, Hudson told the newspaper, relaying an account her daughter had given her. “He was saying that Muslims should die,” Hudson said.

On Friday police said detectives wanted to speak to the two women. A detective later took a statement from her family, Hudson told the paper. She could not be reached for comment.

Police declined to release details of Christian’s criminal history, but the newspaper reported he had been convicted of robbery, kidnapping and weapon charges, citing court records. It was not immediately clear if he had obtained an attorney.

The suspect had no known affiliation with a criminal gang member nor any mental health history, police said.

In a statement, the Council on American-Islamic Relations blamed an increase in anti-Muslim incidents in part on President Donald Trump’s focus on militant Islamist groups and anti-immigrant rhetoric.

The administration has said that while it strongly opposes Islamist militants, it has no quarrel with Islam.

A Facebook page that appears to belong to Christian mentions “Jihadi Muslims” among people he disliked. The image on the page matches a photo of Christian released by police.

“MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) – A Minnesota attorney says he was verbally assaulted with hate speech from a belligerent Minnesota Vikings fan at Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

In an op-ed in the Star Tribune, Deepinder Mayell, the director of the Advocates for Human Rights’ refugee and immigrant program, wrote that a man in his section approached him in the stands and demanded to know if he was a refugee, claiming he needed to “make sure” he was not a refugee.

The 35-year-old told Fox 9 he and three friends reported the incident to security staff, who confronted the man. In the end, the fan was allowed to remain in the stadium for the rest of the game.

“I think something struck with him because he said ‘I’m sorry.’ He did apologize,” Mayell said.

Mayell believes it happened because this fan is afraid of extremist Muslims linked to terrorism. Mayell, who is a Sikh American, says he is tired of being lumped into this group because of the color of his skin.

…Less well known is the fact that while Steve Jobs was born in California he was actually adopted, and his biological father was a political migrant from the Syrian city of Homs, now devastated by the civil war in Syria.

On Twitter this fact has now gone viral, starting via a tweet by David Galbraith, and further exposed by the BBC World Service’s Outside Source programme. It remains a powerful statement, especially following the ISIS atrocities in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and now mainland Europe.

While some people are horrified at the numbers fleeing Syria, and worry about the consequences of other countries taking on millions of refugees, the tweets point out that previous Syrian migrants have boosted the West’s culture, business and technology – most notably the biological father of Steve Jobs – Abdul Fattah Jandali, who is still alive (aged 84) and living in Nevada…”

“Still, there are more than 2.5 million American Muslims, making it the third-largest religion in the US.

While Muslims account for just 0.8% of the population, they have faced rising discrimination and prejudice since the 9/11 attacks 13 years ago. With the rise of groups like the Islamic State now seeking to promote their brand of violent extremism, that may be unlikely to end anytime soon.

A recent poll reported that 62% of American’s didn’t personally know a Muslim, so here’s a list of 9 Muslim Americans you probably will know…”

Another “Street Sign”- Homeless Guy Story: What can we do to help them?

I live in an area in St. Paul where there is always some guy holding-up a sign or just standing there for a “handout’. I always feel convicted or “bad” when I passed them in my “comfortable” Toyota Corolla driving by. I was in the cities for a week vacation in the end of August (see month’s highlights) and I decided I wanted to something about this before I head back to Morris (we never see any people standing on the corners “begging” for a “helping hand”). I loaded my backpack with extra water bottles and had some food that I can give away in my trunk of my car. Well, as I was doing some errands before heading off on I-94 west to Morris, I did see a “homeless” guy. I then drove to the right side of the road and parked it with my “flashers” on. As I got out of my car, I see a police car coming my way. I didn’t worry as I felt I had some good intentions and thought I was legally parked. Well, I crossed the street to the “homeless guy”. I approached him with a bag of bread rolls and a “fresh” bottle of water. I then introduced myself and explained why I stopped. I told him as a Christian, I wanted to help him. I told him the quick saying “You give a man a fish and it’ll last a day, but if I teach you how to fish-it’ll last a lifetime”. I then pointed to my bread and water, which I told him this will last for a meal or a day. I then gave him a Bible tract (Mana-Bread is the Word…), which I explained to him that this will help you for a life-time. I was worried about parked car on the side of the road, so I told him I have to go and encouraged him by saying God loves him. His name was Ernest. As I went into my car, I noticed him looking back at me with peace and I drove off praying for Ernest as I headed down the entry ramp going west on I-94.

Man Offers To Buy Homeless Man Coffee, But Helps Change His Life Instead… Stefan Armitage viralthread.com
“…Adam’s story begins just like many of our mornings do; on his usual run to the nearby Starbucks for a cup of coffee. However, outside the store, something had always played on Adam’s mind, and after weeks of regularly swallowing his guilt, Adam decided to act…..

“…Adam’s words express his anger at the system; “We’ve all heard someone say ‘why don’t they just get a job?’ or ‘they’re lazy.’ I saw firsthand how the “system” is set up to fail people like Tarec. There is no way he would have been able to do any of this without my help. Just like there are many things in my life I have needed someone to help me overcome an obstacle. We all need a little help.”….
Tech sales rep lands homeless man a job at Safeway Updated:Feb 02 2017 08:07PM PST ktvu.com
“…”I didn’t have somewhere I could rest my head at night, where I could clean up and smell properly, represent myself on the job. From there it went back down,” he said.

The lesson August says he learned: Sometimes it takes more than a job to get out of homelessness.

He has set up a Gofundme page to raise money so Tarec can get an apartment, then perhaps a job.

“If you don’t have a home it is build anything on top of that,” August said.

“I am very optimistic to see something change in my situation,” said Tarec.

And his friend still believes in him…”

“..He still lives in a tent next to highway 101 in Marin City. The rain has made life even tougher for Tarec. He still spends most of his days alone or hanging out at Starbucks. The employees and customers treat him well. It’s hard not to. The warmth in this guy’s heart is palpable.

As for the job. Safeway did indeed offer Tarec a job and we celebrated that news with ice cream. I thought we had a happy ending and a new beginning for Tarec. I was wrong. I failed and I truly apologize if anyone feels misled. With that said, TOGETHER we have an opportunity to write a happy ending and give Tarec a new shot at life.

In retrospect, I didn’t fully understand the impossible nature of having and keeping a job with no place to call home. In an effort to find Tarec a home, I visited Homeward Bound and met with their executive director, Mary Kay Sweeney, a real life angel. She taught me “a healthy home is the foundation for a prosperous life”.

We’ve come full circle.

Tarec is still homeless and jobless, but not hopeless. And because of YOU neither am I. I can’t emphasize this enough. The thousands of comments and messages I have received over the past few months has inspired me to finish what I started. Change a man’s life. Now with thousands of my closest friends, we can accomplish that together.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and support.

Here is how the $25,000 will be used:
$10,000 – $12,000: 12 months of rent pre-paid
$1,000 – $2,000: turns a house/appt. into a home
$1,500 – $2,000: 12 months of utility bills
$1,000 – $1,500: groceries, clothes, and spending money

The additional $8,000+ will be placed into a checking/savings account under Tarec’s name…”

Update:
2.18.17- $13,783 of $25k goal
Raised by 353 people in 17 days

My question is this, what can we do as a society to help these folks?
