“…A campaign started for Melissa Klein of Sweet Cakes by Melissa was shut down last week after raising a little over $100,000. The campaign was started by a friend of the Kleins after an Oregon judge ruled the family owed $135,000 to the lesbian couple whose wedding the bakery refused to cater in 2013.

After news broke of the incident, the Kleins were forced to close the bakery after the same-sex couple filed a complaint saying the bakery had discriminated against them because of their sexual orientation.

Shortly after the judge’s ruling, the Kleins announced on Facebook that the $135,000 would not come from the now closed business but would come from personal funds.

“He (the judge) is ordering that we pay $135,000 in emotional damages,” they wrote. “This money will not come from the business, but instead would have to be paid from money that should be going to pay for food and housing for us and our five children… This amount will financially ruin us.”

“…B.N. Klein, Robert Oscar Lopez, Dawn Stefanowicz, and Katy Faust all grew up with homosexual parents. All four argued that redefining marriage to include same-sex couples would harm children by depriving them of a mother or father.

In her brief, Dawn Stefanowicz described her experience living in a same-sex household.

“I wasn’t surrounded by average heterosexual couples,” she says in her court brief. “Dad’s partners slept and ate in our home, and they took me along to meeting places in the LGBT communities. I was exposed to overt sexual activities like sodomy, nudity, pornography, group sex, sadomasochism and the ilk.”

“There was no guarantee that any of my Dad’s partners would be around for long, and yet I often had to obey them,” she said. “My rights and innocence were violated.”

“As children, we are not allowed to express our disagreement, pain and confusion,” Stefanowicz explained. “Most adult children from gay households do not feel safe or free to publicly express their stories and life-long challenges; they fear losing professional licenses, not obtaining employment in their chosen field, being cut off from some family members or losing whatever relationship they have with their gay parent(s). Some gay parents have threatened to leave no inheritance, if the children don’t accept their parent’s partner du jour.”

“I grew up with a parent and her partner[s] in an atmosphere in which gay ideology was used as a tool of repression, retribution and abuse,” B.N. Klein wrote of her experience with a lesbian mother. “I have seen that children in gay households often become props to be publicly displayed to prove that gay families are just like heterosexual ones.”

Klein said she was taught that “some Jews and most Christians were stupid and hated gays and were violent,” and that homosexuals were “much more creative and artistic” because they were not repressed and were naturally more ‘feeling.’”

“At the same time I was given the message that if I did not agree (which I did not), I was stupid and damned to a life of punishing hostility from my mother and her partner,” she recounts. “They did this with the encouragement of all their gay friends in the community and they were like a cheering squad. I was only allowed out of my room to go to school. This could go on for weeks.”

“I was supposed to hate everyone based on what they thought of my mother and her partner,” said Klein. “People’s accomplishments did not matter, their personal struggles did not matter, and their own histories were of no consequence. The only thing that mattered was what they thought of gays.”

Robert Oscar Lopez who was also raised by a lesbian mother and her partner, had a different experience which he described as the “best possible conditions for a child raised by a same-sex couple.”

“Had I been formally studied by same-sex parenting ‘experts’ in 1985, I would have confirmed their rosiest estimations of LGBT family life,” Lopez wrote, but then went on to argue against same-sex marriage saying that, “behind these facades of a happy ‘outcome’ lay many problems.”

He describes experiencing a great deal of sexual confusion due to the lack of a father figure in his life. He turned to a life of prostitution with older men as a teenager.

“I had an inexplicable compulsion to have sex with older males,” he recounted, saying he “wanted to have sex with older men who were my father’s age, though at the time I could scarcely understand what I was doing.”

“The money I received for sex certainly helped me financially because it allowed me certain spending money beyond what I earned with my teenage jobs at a pizzeria and in my mother’s [psychiatric] clinic,” he states in the brief. “But the money was not as impactful as the fact that I needed to feel loved and wanted by an older male figure, even if for only as short as a half hour.”

“As early as ten years ago, I developed a clear stance on homosexual relationships. A civil union or some kind of state recognition would have helped my mother and her partner,” Lopez writes.

“Yet the traditional marriage laws in New York State as they existed back then prevented my mother and her partner from entirely cutting my father out of my life,” he explained. “The latter reality proved pivotal because my re-establishment of ties to my father in 1998 led to a transition in my life, from being lost and sexually confused to being stable and romantically fulfilled.”

Katy Faust, who grew up with a lesbian mother and her partner also testified against gay marriage but clarified that “my advocacy against gay marriage and for the rights of children will never include condemnation of my mother and her partner or details about their private lives.”

“When we institutionalize same-sex marriage,” Faust writes, “we move from permitting citizens the freedom to live as they choose, to promoting same-sex headed households. In doing so, we ignore the true nature of the outcropping of marriage.”

“Now we are normalizing a family structure where a child will always be deprived daily of one gender influence and the relationship with at least one natural parent,” she explains, “Our cultural narrative becomes one that, in essence, tells children that they have no right to the natural family structure or their biological parents, but that children simply exist for the satisfaction of adult desires.”

A powerful earthquake shook Nepal killing more than 2152 people, flattening sections of the city’s historic center, and trapping dozens of sightseers in a 200-foot watchtower that came crashing down into a pile of bricks.

As officials in Nepal faced the devastation on Sunday morning, they said that most of the 2152 deaths occurred in Katmandu and the surrounding valley, and that more than 4,700 people had been injured. But the quake touched a vast expanse of the subcontinent. It set off avalanches around Mount Everest, where at least 17 climbers died. At least 34 deaths occurred in northern India. Buildings swayed in Tibet and Bangladesh.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck shortly before noon, and residents of Katmandu ran into the streets and other open spaces as buildings fell, throwing up clouds of dust. Wide cracks opened on paved streets and in the walls of city buildings. Motorcycles tipped over and slid off the edge of a highway.

Four of the area’s seven Unesco World Heritage sites were severely damaged in the earthquake: Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a temple complex built in the shape of a conch shell; Patan Durbar Square, which dates to the third century; Basantapur Durbar Square, which was the residence of Nepal’s royal family until the 19th century; and the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in the Himalayas.

Only a few bright moments occurred in Kathmandu.

A clip on Nepal State Television showed uniformed soldiers frantically digging through rubble in a tight space and slowly extracting a man in a while shirt and a green belt. They slid the man onto a stretcher and carried him down a ladder to the street below where onlookers cheered.

Many other rescues were performed by regular citizens or tourists — people dressed in street clothes who lacked stretchers and other proper tools. In one scene, four men carried an injured man in their arms while a fifth man ran beside the group, fanning the man’s face with a magazine.

Formanek said people are banding together in other ways, with stores shuttered and very few sources of food and drinkable water.

“Communal kitchens have been set up for cooking. Not by the government — people set them up on their own,” she said….

Laid off: ,Out of a job?

A “friend” just told me yesterday that he will be laid off from his job within the next two months, which can be very discouraging for everyone who has been in his shoes. One starts feeling depressed and many questions come to their mind (e.g. what did I do wrong? Was it because of this situation?). Also, one starts believing false lies about themselves (e.g I’m not good enough. I’m a loser. I seem to not be able to do anything right, etc…). How do I know? I had the exact feelings 7+ years ago. I was laid off from my job that I have right now. I even looked back what I wrote at that time…

All of last week (October 6th-10th), it was in the news 24/7 about our “shrinking downfalling economy”. Weeks ago there was a natural disaster in Texas-Hurricane Ike, which “America” (media) has seem to have forgotten our fellow friends down there. It kind of shows where our priorities we put in our life-money! Anyways, I fell I’ll be adding more to this site for awhile during this so called “heading towards a depression”.

I want to encourage you all that God has a purpose for each individuals through this “difficult season”. I learned this towards the end of last year when I was first layed-off from my job (for a week only as I was called back-in to fill-in a staff leaving for “maternity leave”, which my “full-time”: benefits too was taken away) right before Thanksgiving of 2007. I was then off from work for 3-4 weeks in May, which during this whole time since November-I was seeking God on “what’s next” => pursue a “teaching licensure” in ESL (see GoodnewsEverybody: Liberal Arts-English). …

I was volunteering at the local school teaching English as a Second Language & G.E.D (high school diploma) in my 4th year or so, which I decided to pursue teaching. Money in the mail. One day my husband came back from the mailbox with an envelope full of money. His co-workers were so upset over the fact that my husband was fired, and right before the holidays, they took up a collection. It was over $500 cash, plus one man sent an $89 check from his church.

I got a job. It wasn’t what I wanted to do. I wasn’t being a whiner. I just had so clearly felt the Lord led me to lay down my nursing job, and here I was a year later looking for work again. It was a faith-struggle for me at the time. Nonetheless, the unemployment we were counting on fell through and I knew that eating was important. Even though nurses were having trouble finding jobs at that time in our area, I was able to make one phone call and have a nursing position again. It wasn’t full-time, but it was enough to help us through….

Being laid off also encourage me to explore my other gifts, talents, skills, etc… I recommend reading this book called “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. How do you know what is your calling or purpose in life? The analogy in the beginning of the book that encourage me is the line that said, “if you want to know what an invention is, you have to ask the inventor/creator” (paraphrase-> see Rick Warren – Purpose Driven Life Audiobook Ch. 1 from youtube.com).

This season in my life back in 2008 also built my faith and gave me more compassion for people who have been unemployed.

Wisdom To Fix My Car Moment: Connecting Cool Air-Intake Valve

Back in April 25th of 2014, I did some research and found this new “expensive” air filter that supposedly helps lower my gas mileage. I ordered it and right when I was about to put it in, a friend (mechanic for over 20+ years) recommended me to put a cool air-intake valve in my 2000 Toyota Corolla after sharing my lack of power. It cost about $200 on ebay.com. I thought it would be worth it in the long run as he told me it will not only increase my engine power, but also my gas mileage. Well, he did install it, but it wouldn’t fit-meaning the preexisting “circular” tubes connecting to the rest of my engine wouldn’t connect with the “square-size” tube of my new cool air intake valve. When I drove, I would have problems with my engine as it would just stall as I would try to drive from my driveway or continue after stopping at an intersection. I thought this was just an off and on preexisting “troubleshooting” mechanical issue in the past (I tried to fix this by putting new spark plugs/new tune-up after seeing a local mechanic that wasn’t able to figure this out too).

Well, one weekend (February 20th in 2015) trip going to the cities, I had he worst experience with this. Somehow the connection of the intake and engine got disconnected somehow (probably from a strong jolt in the vehicle). When I was driving through St. Paul, I had problems accelerating after almost ever intersection. I even decided to videotape one and was able to record the car behind me honking..lol! I decided this was it and it was time to get another profession mechanic to hopefully find a solution.

When I got to St. Paul, I was able to schedule my vehicle the next day. At this time, I wasn’t sure the exact “issue” as I thought it might be the battery (the positive and negative cables) being loose. The same place I took it in a month ago suggested me to get this looked at. However, in between this time in Morris, I was able to fix the looseness of the battery. Thus, I felt this wasn’t the issue. On Saturday morning after I dropped my vehicle, they called and told me it was an issue with the electronic sensor. They estimated (Master Brake Sensor) it to cost $400 to replace my existing electronic device. I was like , what???!! …they they replied, “if” that is the major issue. An hour or so later, they told me it wasn’t. I was half and half relieved. Relieved that I don’t have to pay the $400, but not relieved that they couldn’t figure out the problem. I then walked there and picked it up and got more frustrated after I left as I had a tougher time driving it home. I got stalled in the middle of the street (2 cars had to go around me-somewhat embarrassing), but I was fortunately able to restart it and continue to drive home to my parents. I was very frustrated and decided to “google” a possible solution. I don’t remember if I did specifically pray, but I found this site “Custom Cold air intake v2 for my corolla”-“silicone rubber” that gave me a great idea on the solution of the “irregular” connection problem. I want to thank God for this “idea” as I feel it was the wisdom (see spiritual gifts) from the Lord!. Praise Jesus!

I drove to the local auto shop, but they didn’t have this particular 4″ to 3.5″ 102mm – 89mm Silicone hose straight reducer coupler, Black, turbo,USA part. I was about to go to the hardware store, but they were closed…bummer! I wasn’t too stressed about it as I thought finding this solution was a HUGE relief and I was willing to wait till I get to the Menards in Alexandria, where I’ll stop along the way back to Morris. I took several visits in various hardware stores in Morris to find the “right one” (actually a 4″ to 4″ Silicone Coupler did the job! I then put black duck tape around the coupling to make it more sturdy and haven’t had any problems since…praise the Lord!
