“Good” Can Come out of Tragedy in Haiti

Lately, Haiti has been the “talk” everywhere (e.g. radio, t.v. online, conversations, etc…)! It’s hard to “avoid” the topic of the recent unfortunate tragedy. I hope and pray that “we” as a global community can learn from this “current” natural disaster. Have we learned from similar unfortunate tragedies (e.g. “9-11”, Katrina, Asian Tsunami, etc..), where the “global” community came together to help “each other”? We hear the popular saying or inuendo..”we will rebuild”! Yes, we can rebuild, but don’t we have to learn also to avoid or prevent the same tragedy happening again?!!! This evening, I was riding with a friend from a supper we had together 30 minutes from here (Morris, Minnesota). We chatted about “Haiti” for a short while, but I would later thought about what I’m currently (Friday, January 15th 2010) writing/blogging right now…”Can “good” come out of this tragedy in Haiti?..I quickly thought that this being the “poorest” country in the Western Hemisphere, I feel this “unfortunate tragedy” may cause local “richer” neighboring countries (e.g. USA) to “share their wealth” (e.g. help build new “suitable” living structures, “train” the Haitians to live a “better” and higher standard of living, create new job, increase Haiti as “tourism” destination, etc…any other suggestions or ideas?…

cont….) as a neighborly gesture…

34″Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37″Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

40″The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’-Matthew 25

Q: Can “good” come out of this tragedy in Haiti?..

10 “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” –Psalm 46
