On Monday, January 19, 2015, 14-year-old John Smith had spent the night with two friends,- Josh Rieger & Josh Sander – after winning a close basketball game the night before. John scored the winning shot. Joyce had spoken to John and was prepared to go pick him up when she got a chilling phone call minutes later from friend Cindy saying, “There’s been an accident.” John had fallen through the ice on Lake Saint Louise. First responders had pulled him out but “he didn’t have a heartbeat.” Stunned, after calling husband Brian & her sister, Joyce raced to the hospital praying all the way. POWER OF PRAYER
Joyce knows that prayer really does work. As John lay in the hospital she marveled at how the Lord had brought John into her and Brian’s life unexpectedly when most parents were entering the empty nest stage. Looking back she remembered that at 17 years old she fell in love with a man six years older and a divorced father of two. Headstrong, she didn’t listen to her parents and became pregnant after high-school graduation. She was happy until Charlie told her to get rid of it. She hid her pregnancy, wearing baggy clothes, etc, and turned down a music scholarship for college thinking she would get married. Charlie never changed so she agreed to give the baby up for adoption. She never told her parents. He took her to a hospital where the doctor induced labor. “I gave birth to a baby boy with a round, chubby face, huge blue eyes, and a light covering of blond hair on his head,” she says. She adored him. On the third day she awoke and her baby boy was gone, taken away. “I begged for death to take me, as I sobbed into my pillow,” Joyce says. It was four days later her stunned parents found out she had given birth and had not told them. She did stay with Charlie and a subsequent pregnancy lead them to marry. During the hard years of this marriage Joyce turned to God again in her life. He answered her prayer and she didn’t miscarry her son Tom. She went back to church but eventually divorced Charlie.
A single mom with two boys, she met Brian who loved her boys and they married. Brian, a videographer, had a heart for missions and went on several trips . His heart for the children lead them to seek to adopt a child. In February 2000 they adopted a little five-and-a-half-month old baby boy from Guatemala they named John when she was 49 & Brian 46 years old! So much joy! Strangely Joyce never told Brian about giving up her first son for adoption. Never sure how he would take it. But one day when John was three years old, as she did devotions God spoke to her heart – I want you to find your son. She went to the computer. Miraculously, He led her step-by-step and within 10 days she had found and spoke with her son. Less than two weeks later she says, “I met my sweet son Joe for the second time in my life. And he was everything I hoped and prayed he would be.” Brian had proved to be so welcoming in hearing of her oldest son.

Joyce continues to marvel at the goodness and grace of God. He totally restored her oldest son and family to her. John is doing remarkably well, is totally restored, a good student with a 3.5 gpa and is very articulate. If we have just a little bit of faith, He will do wonders. She says it could be that God healed John over two weeks so that man would exhaust all his efforts. God restores hope. People want to see a God who cares and is above all things. She thanks God for the role of adoption in her life, restoring Joe to her and bringing them John. He cares for the hopeless and the lost, and adopts us into His family. Joyce just wants people to know that God does the impossible, she says. Their story is slated to be made into a movie by Devon Franklin and 20th Century Fox.

U.S Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey hopes that knowledge could lead not only to accountability, but also a potential cure and greater recognition of the disease.
“My hope is, this jump-starts a very aggressive effort to find a cure and see how this (Lyme disease) is growing. It’s pushing out into the Great Lakes area. It’s exploding everywhere,” said Smith, a longtime advocate for Lyme disease research. His district is one of the hotbeds for the disease.
The House of Representatives added a Smith amendment to a federal defense spending bill that would require the Department of Defense’s Inspector General to investigate whether the military, between 1950 and 1975, experimented with ticks and other insects to be used as biological weapons.
Investigators will report back to the House and Senate Armed Services committees with the scope of any experiment it finds, including whether any ticks or insects were released into the environment, either by accident or on purpose.
The amendment was approved by voice vote. Now the House bill has to be reconciled with a Senate bill that does not include Smith’s amendment. Smith is working with senators to ensure the investigation survives the process.

This piece analyzes a covert Manhattan Project spin-off organization referred to here as the Manhattan-Rochester Coalition, and an obscure aerosol study in St. Louis, Missouri, conducted under contract by the U.S. military from 1953–1954, and 1963–1965. The military-sponsored studies targeted a segregated, high-density urban area, where low-income persons of color predominantly resided. Examination of the Manhattan-Rochester Coalition and the St. Louis aerosol studies, reveal their connections to each other, and to a much larger military project that secretly tested humans, both alive and deceased, in an effort to understand the effects of weaponized radiation. The study came to light recently when Wellesley College researcher Susan Reverby found the archived but unpublished notes from the project as she was researching a similar study that was conducted between 1932 and 1972 in Tuskegee, Alabama. That study included nearly 400 poor African-American men with preexisting syphilis whose disease was allowed to progress without treatment. Researchers did not infect the subjects, but they did not tell them they had the disease either.

During this same span of time, Christian movies saw an explosion of interest as studios realized that a large portion of their audience wasn’t being satisfied with the latest Oscar winners and science fiction blockbusters. The Christian film industry was also helped by the growth of independent filmmaking over the last 20-30 years. Even though Hollywood has grown a little fonder of Christian stories, that doesn’t mean faith-based films are completely at the mercy of an industry that mostly doesn’t understand Christians. We can become our own storytellers and work around the system.
Christian films have seen an increase in production mostly because a number of them have found box office success. This success is defined not just by overall dollars earned but return on investment. If you make a film for $10 million and it earns $12 million in theaters, that’s not exactly a great success. Production budgets often don’t include the costs of marketing or details on distribution rights, so a safe formula for financial success is generally that a movie must make double its listed production budget. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Christian movies which had the biggest box office success..

“The Chronicles of Narnia” is one of, if not the biggest Christian entertainment franchise in existence. C.S. Lewis’ magnificent world has been brought to the screen three times. First, there was “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” which earned around $750 million on a budget of $180 million. Next, we had “Prince Caspian” in 2008. This is the only film featured on this list that doesn’t match up to the “double the production budget” rule. The film did earn $420 million, but it had a really steep budget at $225 million. The Narnia series picked things back up with “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” two years later. That film made roughly the same amount of money as its predecessor, but it cost $60 million less to make. Phil Aurich was shot in the back as he was running away on Oct. 1, joining the list of well over 500 people injured in the mass shooting at a packed outdoor concert.
“We got a call in the middle of the night,” said Phil’s sister-in-law Sheila Aurich. “And Ben’s phone rang and it was Phil. We turned it off because we knew he was at the concert and I was like, ‘It’s probably a butt dial.'”
But seconds later, Sheila and her husband Ben, Phil’s brother, received another call.
“There was all this background noise and again started to think again, it was just a butt dial, until we heard Ali screaming, ‘Ben, Phil has been shot.'”
Phil and his girlfriend, Ali, ran for cover.
“They had seen three ambulances, and a cop car blocking them off,” Sheila said. “So they ran toward that, but as they got there, all three pulled away and then the cop sitting there said, ‘I am not supposed to leave, but get in.'”
Phil was still conscious when they arrived at University Medical Center. He was rushed into surgery. Twelve hours later, he would undergo another operation.
“He had some fairly serious organ damage,” Sheila said. “They had to remove his spleen, part of his colon, a ruptured diaphragm, which collapsed a lung and a fractured rib.”
The 36-year-old father of two spent most of last week in ICU, not able to see his children when he began his recovery.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters during an evening news conference that he believed Paddock, who he referred to as “disturbed and dangerous,” likely received some form of assistance. Nearly 60 people were killed in the attack and almost 500 were injured.
“Do you think this was all accomplished on his own?” the sheriff asked, referencing the stockpiles of weapons and ammunition that Paddock acquired over decades. “You’ve got to make the assumption he had to have some help at some point.”
Police found 50 pounds of an explosive shooting target called Tannerite, as well as 1,600 rounds of ammunition in Paddock’s car parked outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
“It remained in the car for some reason,” Lombardo said of the material.
There were “well in excess of thousands of rounds still present in the room” when Paddock was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot, Lombardo said. Additional guns and several pounds of Tannerite were found in Paddock’s home in Mesquite.
Authorities deemed Marilou Danley, Paddock’s girlfriend, a “person of interest” in the investigation. They interviewed her shortly after she arrived in Los Angeles from the Philippines on Wednesday, but the FBI said she wasn’t taken into federal custody.
Danley said in a statement that she was “devastated” by the attack, and had no indication Paddock had any plans to carry it out.

As more than a hundred people sipped drinks and took line dancing lessons inside, Ian David Long, bearded and dressed in black, took out a .45 caliber pistol equipped with an extended magazine and shot the bouncer. Entering the door, he shot several more employees including a cashier while hurling a smoke bomb, witnesses told investigators. Then he turned his handgun on the crowd.

The Baton Rouge shooting came less than two weeks after five Dallas police officers were killed in an ambush by an Army Reserve veteran who had served in Afghanistan.
Gavin Long was based in San Diego with the Marine Corps from 2005 to 2010, according to military records.
He was deployed in 2008 for about eight months to Iraq as a data network specialist. People in those jobs are technicians dealing with computers and generally do not see combat.
One of his victims, 41-year-old Matthew Gerald, was a former Marine who enlisted in the Army after the Sept. 11 attacks and also served in Iraq in 2009.
And the Dallas victims included a Navy veteran who did three tours in Iraq.
It is not uncommon for military veterans to join police forces and vice versa. Both jobs offer a strong sense of teamwork and reliance on others in life-or-death situations — in platoons and out on patrol.
Marines in particular carry an almost religious zeal for their branch of the military that they compare to an exclusive brotherhood.
“Seeing the gunman in Baton Rouge brought a certain stinging embarrassment to something I hold very dear, being a United States Marine,” said former Marine Staff Sgt. Chad M. Robichaux, who also worked as a law enforcement deputy for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, about an hour’s drive from Baton Rouge.
Robichaux said he was proud of the police victims who served in combat zones, so the shooting “tears you both ways.” One of the slain Dallas officers was a military contractor who worked in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Robichaux was a Force Recon Marine — the Marine equivalent of a Navy SEAL — and said both gunmen seemed to effectively use the element of surprise in their attacks but that he has seen no evidence they were highly trained killers.
There also is no evidence that has been made public suggesting either gunmen suffered from post-traumatic stress, said Robichaux, who runs the Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs that helps veterans deal with the syndrome known as PTSD. As we approach Christmas, my heart goes out to those without their love ones. I can ‘t imagine going through the holidays without someone you’ve been with for many years. My self-esteem just went lower and lower as I grew older. I would at times have “suicidal” thoughts and suffered depression. I went through a season where I even wished I was “white” like most of my peers. With all this, my hatred and anger grew, which I would keep to myself and was anti-social.
I slowly grew out of the lies starting my college years when I had a “spiritual awakening” (see personal testimony). My low self-esteem didn’t disappear overnight, but it slowly faded away as I grew in my faith and my found identity as a “child of Him (Heavenly Father)…

One last thought is we need to be careful what you put above God (e.g idols). I used to struggle with this (e.g. sports, music, celebrities, etc..), which I can share the “negative effects” on another blog topic. This will affect one’s identity, which will give you a false belief.

Lucifer, the former covering cherub and one-time honorable prime minister of the angelic intelligences in Heaven, has become Satan, the great adversary of our smitten world. This powerful angel heads a vast army of unseen intelligences, the hosts of darkness who oppose in this world, every beneficent purpose of our Creator the Almighty God of the universe. He especially hates the Holy One who in great condescension assumed our human nature that He might by divine power destroy the works of Satan, conquer evil and lift the terrible sentence of eternal death from our fallen race.
To speak of a throne of evil controlling this world system is no mere figure of speech, it is a grim reality. And the occupant of that throne is no figment of anyone’s imagination. Jesus Christ ascribes to him the title of “prince of this world.” John 14: 30. The famed Christian apostle Paul describes him as “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.” Eph. 2: 2. Paul also warns us that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood , but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness…” Eph 6:12 John the Revelator describes this foe as “the great dragon,” “that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan who deceives the whole world.” Rev. 12:9.
When the leader of revolt against the Eternal Creator was expelled from heaven, expelled along with him were many other angel intelligences who had yielded to his cunning sophistries and had joined in his unworthy rebellion. This world is today their singular abode. This is because that tremendous event, which rid heaven of the fallen hosts, was followed by the tragic fall of our first parents under Satan’s lies. This historic fall let loose legions of fallen angels to bend all of their efforts and genius over many thousands of years in the work of spoiling, corrupting and ruining the once noble human family, originally created to be the crown of God’s handiwork. A key element of the strategy to ruin humanity has been to lead man to blight and degrade the fair earth that was intended to be our perfect and eternal home.
