Personal Tribute

Sal: As a Minnesota Timberwolves fan, I will always remember my first and only NBA game so far as I write this (1.27.20). It was the memorable game (3.12.04) when the T-wovles beat the “hot” L.A. Lakers at the Target Center.

The 10 Best High School Basketball Players of All Time

“..8. Kobe Bryant, Lower Merion, Philadelphia, Pennslyvania
3 OF 10
Despite his accomplishments as a high school junior and senior, 12 NBA teams weren’t sold on his long-term outlook. And the one that drafted him decided to flip him for Vlade Divac.

Pennsylvania’s Player of the Year in 1995, Bryant went for 31 points, 10.4 boards and 5.2 assists a game as a junior. And just when he hit NBA radars, Bryant upped himself and his draft stock as a high school senior.

From USA Today to Parade Magazine, Bryant swept up every National Player of the Year Award that was out there. He had led Lower Merion to its first AAAA state title in 53 years, finishing his last three seasons with a 73-13 record.

With 2,883 career points, Bryant had outscored Wilt Chamberlain to set the all-time mark in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

After being selected as a lottery pick in 1996, Bryant helped spark an era that saw a number of high schoolers declare early, and influence a few NBA teams to bite. ..”

Kobe Bryant Dead – Did He Know the Lord?

‘It’s in His Hands Now’: What Led Kobe Bryant to Return to His Faith .cbn.com
“…Bryant had difficulties in his personal life, facing a sexual assault charge that was later dismissed in a settlement with the accuser.

During a 2015 interview with GQ, he said that confronting those challenges led him to consider certain life choices he was making and return to his faith for guidance.

“The one thing that really helped me during that process – I’m Catholic, I grew up Catholic, my kids are Catholic – was talking to a priest. It was actually kind of funny: He looks at me and says, ‘Did you do it?’ And I say, ‘Of course not.’ Then he asks, ‘Do you have a good lawyer?’ Uh, yeah, he’s phenomenal. So then he just said, ‘Let it go. Move on. God’s not going to give you anything you can’t handle, and it’s in His hands now. This is something you can’t control. So let it go.’ And that was the turning point,” Bryant told GQ.
