During this same span of time, Christian movies saw an explosion of interest as studios realized that a large portion of their audience wasn’t being satisfied with the latest Oscar winners and science fiction blockbusters. The Christian film industry was also helped by the growth of independent filmmaking over the last 20-30 years. Even though Hollywood has grown a little fonder of Christian stories, that doesn’t mean faith-based films are completely at the mercy of an industry that mostly doesn’t understand Christians. We can become our own storytellers and work around the system.
Christian films have seen an increase in production mostly because a number of them have found box office success. This success is defined not just by overall dollars earned but return on investment. If you make a film for $10 million and it earns $12 million in theaters, that’s not exactly a great success. Production budgets often don’t include the costs of marketing or details on distribution rights, so a safe formula for financial success is generally that a movie must make double its listed production budget. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Christian movies which had the biggest box office success..

“The Chronicles of Narnia” is one of, if not the biggest Christian entertainment franchise in existence. C.S. Lewis’ magnificent world has been brought to the screen three times. First, there was “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” which earned around $750 million on a budget of $180 million. Next, we had “Prince Caspian” in 2008. This is the only film featured on this list that doesn’t match up to the “double the production budget” rule. The film did earn $420 million, but it had a really steep budget at $225 million. The Narnia series picked things back up with “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” two years later. That film made roughly the same amount of money as its predecessor, but it cost $60 million less to make. The calculation is as follows: Total reign of the Judean kings & Solomon = 434 years x 360 day Biblical year/365= 428 years + 587 B.C. = 1015 B.C. the beginning of Solomon’s reign. The temple was started in the 4th year of his reign which would be 1012 B.C.
Bishop Usher also calculated 1012 B.C. in his work “Annals of the World” way back in 1650 A.D.
So the approximate date of the Exodus can be calculated: 1012 + (480 x 360 day Biblical year/365) = 1486 B.C. And according to history, Pharaoh Ramesses did not begin his reign until around 1290 B.C., so he couldn’t have been the Exodus pharaoh….
The interesting thing about Avaris was that it was a major city of the “shepherd kings” whom some refer to as “Hyskos” while others refer to them as “Asiatics.” You see Joseph brought his father Jacob and his brothers, who were shepherds, into the land of Egypt and they were given the land of Goshen in which to raise their flocks. Pharaoh also made them the chief herdsman over all his livestock.
They basically were allowed to live independently in Goshen as subject to Joseph, who was second only to Pharaoh. After Joseph died this arrangement continued. Israel had their own rulers in the land of Goshen subject only to Pharaoh. And the capital of their kings appeared to be the supply city of Avaris, which later became part of Raamses…”

Many people have been told that December 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ, but what does the Bible have to say on the matter? Is it truly the day Jesus was born? The short answer would be “no”. “
The Day of Atonement, Tishri 10, was a special Sabbath, and the holiest day in the Old Covenant Jewish calendar year. The only day of the year our Heavenly Father came down to be with man, in the Holy of Holies within the Temple at Jerusalem. On this day our Heavenly Father would annually forgive the sins of Israel, make Israel holy for one more year, as they awaited the promised Messiah, Jesus, to come and save them. Jesus’ Birth “..As presented in Humphreys’ article, Chinese astronomical records document the appearance of three (3) comets around the time of Jesus’ birth:
12 B.C.
Halley’s Comet made an appearance on August 12, 12 B.C. and remained visible for 56 days. The sighting was recorded by Chinese astronomers in the Book of Han of the Han Dynasty: “Lately, reproaches in the form of solar eclipses and meteors have been in the sky….Now a bushy star has been seen in Tung-chin….”
However, because the great majority of scholars maintain Jesus had to have been born between 7 B.C. and 2 B.C. (more>>), Humphreys concludes the 12 B.C. sighting of Halley’s comet is too early to have been the Christmas “star” (aster).
5 B.C.
Historical records of the Chinese in 5 B.C. refer to the appearance of a “new star” in the Capricorn Constellation which was “sui-hsing” meaning a “broom star.”Because the “new” star” had a “broom tail”, most astronomers believe the sighting of that “new star” was, in fact, a sighting of a comet with a sweeping tail.

Chinese astronomical records also reference a sighting of a “new star” in 4 B.C.
However, other than being a “new star” with a tail (and, therefore, most likely a comet), little information is known about the comet. Therefore, Humphreys maintains there is no way to know if that comet exhibited characteristics consistent with the description of the Christmas “star” (aster) in Matthew 2.
Additionally, because Humphreys believes there is strong evidence that Herod died in 4 B.C. such that Jesus would have been born in 5 B.C. – 6 B.C. (more>>), he eliminates the 4 B.C. comet from consideration.

Many scholars believe the Magi were pseudo scientists (astronomers) from Babylon or Persia who may have been part of the legacy of Jews who were deported to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar II (more>>). If so, the Magi may have been aware of Daniel’s prophecy concerning the coming of a king of the Jews (see, Dan. 9:25); consequently, they may have been looking for a sign of the coming of a Jewish king around the time of Jesus’ birth…”

Bright comets do appear in the sky from time to time, and have been described as “hanging over” particular cities or lands, as the Star of Bethlehem is often represented. We know that Halley’s comet was visible in the region in 12 BC, and would have been bright enough to be described as a star. But the writers of Matthew would likely have known the difference between a comet and a star, and specifically noted the event as a star…”
A third possibility is that it could have been a nova or supernova. These appear in the sky as “new stars” and are sometimes brighter than even Venus or Jupiter in the night sky. This would match the Biblical description, and might have been interpreted as a good omen. Chinese and Korean astronomers noted the appearance of a nova in 5 BC, which would be around the right time frame, but this nova wasn’t noted by astronomers in other regions, so it likely wasn’t particularly bright. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, anti-Bolshevik émigrés brought the Protocols to the West. Soon after, editions circulated across Europe, the United States, South America, and Japan. An Arabic translation first appeared in the 1920s.
Beginning in 1920, auto magnate Henry Ford’s newspaper, The Dearborn Independent, published a series of articles based in part on the Protocols. The International Jew, the book that included this series, was translated into at least 16 languages. Yes. The final assault to take the Maeda Escarpment happened on the morning of May 5, 1945, a Saturday, the day of Sabbath, which the Fourth Commandment says should be devoted to prayer. Given that Desmond was the only medic left in B Company, he agreed to go but requested that he first be given time to read his Bible. The delay was approved up the chain of command and the assault was put on hold until Desmond finished his devotions. The battlefield, located on top of a sheer 400-foot cliff, was fortified with a deadly network of Japanese machine gun nests and booby traps. The escarpment, nicknamed Hacksaw Ridge for the treacherously steep cliff, was key to winning the battle of Okinawa. The mission was thought to be near-impossible, and when Doss’s battalion was ordered to retreat, the medic refused to leave his fallen comrades behind.
Facing heavy machine gun and artillery fire, Doss repeatedly ran alone into the kill zone, carrying wounded soldiers to the edge of the cliff and singlehandedly lowering them down to safety. Each time he saved a man’s life, Doss prayed out loud, “Lord, please help me get one more.” By the end of the night he had rescued an estimated 75 men.
