Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps Review: Is This A Debt Management Plan You Should Try? By Peter Anderson 57 Comments biblemoneymatters.com
“..Before The Baby Steps: Making A Decision To Change

Before you even decide to head down the road of using or exploring the 7 Baby Steps, I think it’s important to point out just how key it is that you sit down, talk with your significant other (if you have one), and actually make a decision that you want to change.

A lot of people talk about how to change their financial lives, but never touch on the fact that if you or your spouse isn’t ready to change, it isn’t going to happen. You have to want to change…”

The 7 Best Places to Put Your SavingsBy Jean Folger | Updated September 29, 2017 — 6:00 AM EDT investopedia.com

Although there is opportunity for larger returns with certain investments, the idea behind savings is to allow the money to grow slowly with little or no associated risk. The advent of online banking has increased the variety and accessibility of savings accounts and vehicles. Here are some of the different types of accounts so you can make the most of your savings.

Warren Buffett is the greatest investor of all time. His decisions about buying shares and companies have beaten the stock market year after year and made him the richest person in the world – thought to be worth 37 billion dollars.

Yet Buffett lives modestly in his native Omaha, in America’s mid-West, and runs his 150 billion dollar business with a staff of just twenty.

He talks to Buffett’s family, friends and colleagues about the man they call the Sage of Omaha, and Buffett’s friend Bill Gates praises his philosophy of life.

The 360 shows you diverse perspectives on the day’s top stories.

What’s happening:

After a decade of sustained growth, the global economy largely recovered from the Great Recession. A number of indicators, however, are raising concerns that a contraction may be coming soon.

Several of the world’s biggest economies are showing signs of trouble, experts say. The world’s two economic leaders — the U.S. and China — are each feeling the pain from an ongoing trade war that could drag on for months, if not years. Last week, the U.S. showed an “inverted yield curve,” a complex financial metric that has occurred before each American recession since the 1950s.

The economies in Germany, Brazil, Italy, Mexico and a number of other countries are also showing vulnerabilities, experts say. The uncertainty is exacerbated by fears of the potential financial fallout that could happen if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union in October without first reaching a deal on the terms of its departure.

In general, an economy is considered to be in recession when it posts two straight quarters of declining gross domestic product. Some governments use their own more nuanced measurements to formally declare that their country is experiencing a recession..”

TARP Bailout Program- Did TARP Help You or the Banks? BY KIMBERLY AMADEO Updated November 15, 2018 thebalance.com
“..On October 14, 2008, the Treasury Department used $105 billion in TARP funds to launch the Capital Purchase Program. The U.S. government bought preferred stock in eight banks. They were Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Bank of New York Mellon, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and Wells Fargo…

In December 2018, President Bush agreed to use TARP funds to bail out the Big Three auto companies. Auto execs warned that the General Motors Company and Chrysler LLC faced bankruptcy and the loss of 1 million jobs. The $80.7 billion bailout lasted from January 2009 to December 2014. Treasury recouped all but $10.2 billion.

Why TARP Was Needed
Fifty-eight percent of Americans said TARP was not needed. But TARP’s purpose was to stop the panic that consumed Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and AIG. Without government intervention, the bankruptcy of those companies would have led to many more.

Most Americans have never heard of the Reserve Primary Fund. They weren’t aware that on September 16, 2008, they were weeks away from a total economic collapse. If that ultra-safe money market fund had gone bankrupt, trucking companies would run out of cash to pay their employees. Grocery stores would have gone empty within weeks. Without a $700 billion government guarantee, the financial system would have collapsed. The rest of the economy would have gone w..”

Deep Thought: How to show “love” throughout the year?

What did you do for Valentines Day? Do you “celebrate” it? Why? What “holidays” do you observe throughout the years and do you ever re”searched” the “origins” (history)? Have you stopped afterwards?

Origins?

Where Did Valentine’s Day Come From? Is It Wrong for a Christian to Celebrate It?
Posted on Jan 25, 2011 by United Church of God ucg.org
‘..The World Book Encyclopedia tells us regarding Valentine’s Day: ” “The customs connected with the day . . . probably come from an ancient Roman festival called Lupercalia which took place every February 15. The festival honored Juno, the Roman goddess of women and marriage, and Pan, the god of nature”” (1973, vol. 20, p. 204)…

Friendship and sending cards are wonderful things, and God is not opposed to romance at the right time in the right way. But does the pagan religious history of Valentine’s Day taint the modern practices? What does God have to say about observing pagan traditions, renamed or not?

“When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess … do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods … Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it” (Deuteronomy 12:29-32)..”

NEUTRAL

What is the origin of Valentine’s Day, and should Christians celebrate it? gotquestions.org
“..Valentine died in approximately A.D. 270. Others claim the church may have decided to celebrate in mid February to “Christianize” the pagan Roman celebration Lupercalia. The first Valentine sent in the United States was in the 1840’s by Esther Howgald. Most of us enjoy “spoiling” a loved one on Valentine’s Day. Sending gifts and cards conveys love, affection, and friendship.

There is no biblical reason why Christians should not celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving their loved ones flowers, candy and/or cards. As with celebrating any holiday, the decision should be between the individual and God. Some people feel very strongly that observing any secular holiday is wrong, while others see it as harmless. The important thing to remember is that celebrating or not celebrating holidays should not be a cause for pride or division among Christians.

NOT Celebrate!

10 Simple but Powerful Reasons Christians Should not Celebrate Valentine’s Day joshuainfantado / January 27, 2016 becomingchristians.com
“..It is estimated that Americans spend about $20 billion on this single holiday alone, making it the second most expensive holiday next to Christmas.

However, the majority is not always right.

One must ask whether Christians should celebrate this day. Most importantly, what does God think about Valentine’s Day?

Before I proceed, let me tell you this SHOCKING TRUTH: Valentine’s Day should NOT be celebrated by Christians.

In this post, let me share the reasons why this is so. Let me make it as simple as possible for everyone to understand. Here are the 10 reasons Christians should not celebrate Valentine’s Day…

Reason no. 4: You can Celebrate Love without Valentine’s Day

Why do so many Christians limit their love on a specific day, in this case, Valentine’s Day? Wouldn’t it be great to demonstrate your love every single day?

Married couples or those who are in a relationship can show their love and concern every day and not wait for Valentine’s Day to arrive.

After all, even if you celebrate your love on Valentine’s Day, it really feels awkward since this day celebrates lust and not true love…..”

Life Lesson: Humble yourself and ask directions when lost!

The other day (Friday, September 4th 2015), I was driving to a particular location that I thought would be easy to find. I used my camera and took a pic of a map I googled, but would find out later it wasn’t the most accurate pic.

I would end up driving almost an hour to finally reach my destination, which I was at a point where I was very frustrated (the hot weather also played a factor). I look back and ask God to forgive me for my impatience. Fortunately, I’m at a point in my life where I’ve grown a lot more patient and didn’t “hurt” anybody, which I would have regretted if I did.

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

What happened was the pic (above) I took of the map wasn’t big enough to show the entry ramps before or after, so the location was too narrow to see a “bigger perspective”. One of the lessons I learned was to take two or more pics to show the “surrounding area”..

I stopped at two locations looking for directions…

1st-Forgot the name of the gas station and the exact location, but somewhere in Blaine around here (hwy 65 & 109th Avenue.) ..

The guy told me to continue east on 109th Avenue and look for Lexington Avenue, which leads me back to 35 W. I saw the map and realized I was very close to the prison if I continued west more on 109th. I left my physical map at home, which I need to remember to bring it next time.

Disney Character: Jafar-“Why M-E?”

I’ve been practicing the last month or so the lines of Jafar from “Aladdin” (theatrical play performance), which our performance (see “My first theatrical experience (Aladdin the Musical at the Park)”) will be this coming weekend (Friday & Saturday evenings) at a local park. It’s been a challenging character as I’ve had to act “selfishly”, which is something I’ve been trying to do the “opposite” since I became a Christian in my early college years. However, it’s been a fun role as I can relate to this character in various ways when I was younger.

We all can relate somehow to Jafar. Here is some lines that I thought of myself during my “junior high/middle school” years..

“…I was unappreciated by my peers. As their slings and arrows flew. I would ponder. Why me? Why Me?…broadwayjr.com

“Why Me?” Cut Song from Aladdin

Instead of “slings and arrows”, they were “spitballs and spit (a.k.a. “gleaking”) from my peers/bullies. Anyone ever been bullied?

Another song I made relating to this theme…

“It’s About Me” (Parody to “It’s All About You”) by Jafar

(see Music: Parody-“Creepy Old Cave” (originally from “I Can Show You the World” from Aladdin) by Jafar)

Instead of “pondering/dwelling” on how bad you might’ve got it growing up in your “earlier” years. I encourage you to think about others that might’ve got it “worse/more challenging”. This has helped me overcome my frustration of my “past”, which I feel has been a “cake walk” when I compare it with others that have had more difficulties…

I currently work with physically-mentally challenged adults and have been since I graduated from college. This job experience has really changed me to be a “better” person and it has taught me to take my eyes off of “myself” (e.g. own problems). Before I go to bed, I write down a list of “needs” I’ve read/watch/heard as a prayer request and then I jot down a list of what “I’m thankful” for. This nightly routine has also helped me to take my eyes of myself/me too!

What are your needs? Can I pray for you? What are you thankful for? Feel free to share down below to encourage others..
