The Big Banks Are Corrupt — and Getting Worse
05/22/2015 12:15 am ET | Updated May 22, 2016 huffingtonpost.com
“..According to the report, “Nearly one-third of respondents (32%) believe compensation structures or bonus plans in place at their company could incentivize employees to compromise ethics or violate the law. “
In fact, bankers’ bonuses do incentivize unethical and criminal behavior – and anything else it takes to generate profits. “Clawbacks” for ill-gotten gains are still few and far between. Remarkably few bankers have been fired for the widespread fraud that continues to characterize their industry. Prosecution for criminal behavior is extremely rare.
A system which rewards antisocial behavior begets social tragedy. It’s also a law enforcement nightmare. Criminology teaches that the presence of reward for criminal behavior, along with the absence of deterrence, almost inevitably leads to more crime…”
Top 10 Corporate Criminals List globalexchange.org
“…Global Exchange has compiled a new list of “most wanted” corporations of 2016 based on issues like unlivable working conditions, low pay, violations of human right and voting rights; climate change denial, and environmental destruction, just to name a few.
Four corporations, Koch Industries, McDonald’s, Chevron and Monsanto were on earlier lists but are included again, as the corporate behavior of these companies has reached egregious levels this year and merits repeat attention.
The Ten Top Corporate Criminals list is a guide to what companies like Energy Transfer Partners, Exxon Mobil, H&M and others are doing to undermine human rights and the environment. Share the list with friends, family, and co-workers. Use the Take Action section to add your voice and increase the pressure…

..The pipeline is supposed to stretch from North Dakota to a market hub in Illinois, and from there another pipeline is to ship the oil to the gulf coast for Asian export. It would deliver up to 570,000 barrels of what the company calls its “light, sweet crude,” fracked in North Dakota’s Bakken and Three Forks fields.
The pipeline is to cross 209 rivers, creeks and tributaries, including the nations longest river, the Missouri, which is the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s main source of drinking and irrigation water. It will also destroy tribal burial grounds and sacred sites.
The Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition representing farmers, ranchers, environmentalists, student and local community organizations along the pipeline route as well as nationwide, has been fighting the pipeline since late 2014. On August 25, just days before the September 3rd assault, more than 30 national and tribal environmental organizations had joined together to write President Obama a letter calling on President Obama to stop the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. And on September 9, minutes after a federal judge declined the Tribe’s request for an injunction to stop construction on the pipeline, the Obama administration made a surprise announcement that it would not permit the project to continue for now. Continued action is essential to keep the pipeline from being built…”“

How to Contact the 17 Banks Funding the Dakota Access Pipeline Emily Fuller posted Sep 29, 2016 Updated Nov. 30, 2016 yesmagazine.org
Here are CEO names, emails, and phone numbers—because banks have choices when it comes to what projects they give loans to.
“..Food & Water Watch researcher Hugh MacMillan: “Ask these banks to clarify whether funds they are providing are being used, in any amount, to pay for the heavily militarized response to the Standing Rock Sioux, including the attack dogs, sound-cannon trucks, heavily armed officers.”
“People should also ask these institutions why they are sinking so much money into maximizing the amounts of oil and gas that can be brought to the surface and burned at a time when climate science is clear we have to maximize what we keep in the ground instead,” said MacMillan.
The organization’s deputy communications director, Seth Gladstone, suggests saying: “As a customer of your financial institution, I reject the notion of my money helping to support your investment in the Dakota Access pipeline, an inherently dangerous and unjust oil pipeline that threatens air and water quality in many states, and violates sacred lands of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. I urge you to give up your financial stake in the Dakota Access pipeline immediately.”
Here are names of CEOs and other bank executives involved in these decisions—along with their phone numbers and email addresses. The first 17 banks (*) are directly funding the Dakota Access pipeline. The rest of these banks are offering credit lines to its parent companies: Sunoco Logistics, Energy Transfer Partners, and Energy Transfer Equity.
The following bank information has been updated periodically, most recently Nov. 30, 2016. Some banks have disconnected phones and disabled email addresses since the start of the campaign. Contact us with adjustments..”

An Open Letter To Investors In The Dakota Access Pipeline November 29th, 2016 by Susanna Schick cleantechnica.com
“..While Norwegian investors pull out because the DAPL does not meet their Corporate Social Responsibility requirements, and Energy Transfer Partners sells its company to Sunoco to better compete against Russia, I would like to propose that all investors pull their funds from this project, as there are other energy projects with a much higher ROI that actually build a stronger US economy. I am addressing Goldman Sachs because of its stated commitment to environmental stewardship and its long track record of successful investments.
Dear Mr. Blankfein,
As one of the best investment banks in the world, Goldman Sachs’ job is to keep one foot firmly planted in the future. The oil industry is dying, and “energy” companies that refuse to expand into other forms of energy will die along with it. Do you wish you’d invested in a film camera company 15 years ago? This is the same situation, but with a much bigger industry.
As a journalist covering clean tech, I’ve seen the future, and it’s electric. This was never more clear than on October 28th, when Tesla announced its Powerpack 2 batteries, grid-scale batteries twice as energy dense at the same price. Customers like SoCal Edison will install them next month to decrease their dependency on natural gas, the main commodity ETP offers. The same commodity which recently caused the biggest methane leak ever in the US…”

Major Victory! One of the Largest Banks Funding DAPL Just Pulled Its Assets from the Project Claire Bernish November 18, 2016 thefreethoughtproject.com
“Water protectors from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe can now declare their most tangible victory to date — one of the heftiest investors in the Dakota Access Pipeline, Norway’s largest bank, has pulled its assets from the project.
Just 10 days ago, DNB warned it might withdraw funding for construction of the contentious pipeline if concerns raised by the Standing Rock Sioux were not addressed promptly…
“The news that DNB has sold its assets and is considering terminating its loans is a victory for the water protectors who are fighting to stop this disaster of a project. All financial institutions with a stake in the pipeline must quickly realize that financing this project is toxic. It would be smart for them to get out ahead of the growing movement of customers looking to divest from banks that finance the destruction of our planet and ignore Indigenous rights and sovereignty. Citigroup, TD Securities, Wells Fargo, SunTrust, and the other banks backing this project should see this as a sign to get on the right side of history…”
Financing Dakota Access Pipeline puts US bank in more hot water Frank Hopper • December 13, 2016 indiancountrymedianetwork.com
“…Under the proposed legislation the city’s current contract with Wells Fargo, which ends in one year, on December 31, 2017, would not be renewed. In the meantime, the city would “enter into a voluntary debarment agreement with Wells Fargo Bank for a period of at least one year, and refrain from conducting banking, investment, or other business with Wells Fargo Bank for a period of at least one year when it is in the City’s discretion.”..
Why Wells Fargo?
While many different banks are financing the Dakota Access Pipeline, research by Food & Water Watch identifies 17 banks as loaning directly to Dakota Access LLC. Most are located in other countries such as France, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Germany, England and Spain. Of those located in the U.S., only two are large with many branch offices: Wells Fargo and Citibank. Wells Fargo is being targeted because it is the most visible of the U.S. banks financing the pipeline, loaning close to $500 million for its construction.
Additionally, federal regulators recently revealed a scandal involving Wells Fargo employees who opened over 2 million unauthorized bank and credit card accounts in the names of customers, apparently to hit sales targets and make money on fees. Approximately 5,300 Wells Fargo employees have been fired.
And if that weren’t reason enough, in 2012 the U.S. Department of Justice forced Wells Fargo to pay $175 million after it was determined they engaged in discriminatory lending practices against black and Hispanic borrowers…”
How Standing Rock’s Divest Campaign Can Stop Future Pipelines
By Colby Devitt | December 19, 2016 billmoyers.com
As banks begin to respond, environmental movements are learning the importance of speaking clearly about the financial risks of fossil fuel investment.
Between Now and Trump, We Must #DefundDAPL December 16, 2016 gofossilfree.org
“…On December 4th, the Obama Administration announced that it will not grant Energy Transfer Partners the final permit for the Dakota Access Pipeline to drill under the Missouri River, and called for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the project. This milestone is a testament to the amazing movement that indigenous leadership and the camps at Standing Rock have led, and has re-defined what is possible when thousands of people come together to peacefully resist.
But the fight to stop Dakota Access isn’t over — and right now, before Trump comes into office, is a critical moment.
We can’t say for certain what will happen when Trump’s in office, and we don’t know how an attempt to reverse this decision will play out in the courts – so right now it’s crucial that we use another source of our strength to stop this project: our financial power and collective pressure.
The divestment movement has already shown the power of moving our money and rejecting the social license of the fossil fuel industry. Just this week, it was announced that total assets committed to divest surpass $5 trillion. Now we need to turn that power and momentum to Dakota Access.
The Dakota Access pipeline is being financed in various ways by 17 banks (here’s a list with contact info for each). ..”

Is Your Bank Funding DAPL? Here’s How to Find One That Isn’t Gerald Mitchell posted Dec 01, 2016 yesmagazine.org
There’s an entire industry of ethically minded banks and financial institutions out there to choose from.
“..Every day in December has been declared a day of action for those protecting sacred ground and water from the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline. While most of us can’t be there in person, a growing number of supporters are taking action by breaking up with banks that are funding the pipeline. As an act of solidarity with the water protectors at Standing Rock, this also helps put pressure on the banks to change their practices now and in the future. But closing your megabank account raises the question: Where should I move my money?
Luckily, there’s an entire industry of ethically minded banks and financial institutions out there to choose from. While they aren’t always guaranteed to have a clean environmental record, they do invest locally and in underserved areas. And they are also almost certainly not funding DAPL and trampling on indigenous sovereignty…”

#10 Total SA
French oil and gas company Total has been accused of building a pipeline with the aid of slave labor in Myanmar. Occidental, one of America’s largest oil and gas companies, has been involved in a number of territory disputes in multiple countries, including Ecuador and Colombia. The company also drew ire from environmentalists in 2005, when it proposed building a road through Ecuador’s Yasuní National Park.
#3 Chevron Corp.
Chevron, the oil and gas behemoth, has been accused of tax evasion as well a number of environmental infractions in several countries around the world. But perhaps most controversial was a 1998 episode in Nigeria: after protesters took hostages as part of a demonstration against the company, Nigerian soldiers shot at the demonstrators, killing two. Chevron was accused of facilitating the transport of the soldiers, known for their “general history of committing abuses,” to the scene. The company, however, was cleared of the charges in 2008…
#2 Halliburton Company
After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Halliburton, the oil and gas company famously associated with former Vice President Dick Cheney, was accused of unfairly procuring billions of dollars in government contracts for oil repair in the country.

They will take a load of food, water and hygiene kits that can be distributed as needed. As always, our goal is to be among the first on the scene to help survivors quickly and efficiently. “..Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1, 14, Col. 2:9), and only God can satisfy the Law requirements of a perfect life and perfect sacrifice that cleanses us of our sins…”
“…All people have sinned against God. But, God is infinitely holy and righteous. He must punish the sinner, the Lawbreaker. If He didn’t, then His law is not Law, for there is no law that is a law without a punishment. The punishment for breaking the Law is death – separation from God. Therefore, we sinners need a way to escape the righteous judgment of God. Since we are stained by sin and cannot keep the Law of God, then the only one who could do what we cannot is God Himself. That is why Jesus is God in flesh. He is both divine and human. He was made under the Law (Gal. 4:4), and He fulfilled it perfectly. Therefore, His sacrifice to God the Father on our behalf is of infinite value and is sufficient to cleanse all people from their sins and undo the offense to God….”

I decided to do this blog on this increasing growing topic after meeting a Vet that openly shared about this P.T.S.D. this morning. I was coming out of the local fitness center (R.F.C.) and as I was about to bike off after unlocking my chain, this “older” gentlemen (with a beard and a cane-thought he was blind as he held on to the rails along the wall. He appeared to be going to the P.E. Center to watch a local high school basketball game as he was wearing a West Central Knights jacket) wandered towards me to chat.
We talked about the nice sunny weather as a popular “Minnesota” topic. Somehow he asked where I was from, which I told him my parents are from the Philippines. He then told me he has had bad memories of being there? He then told me he was stationed there in the army. I then asked, “where-Subic Bay?”. He said, “yes..have you been there before”. I replied “yes too and told him I was there back in 2012 for vacation”. He openly (like many vets has had with me in the Morris area) shared he was in Vietnam. I then quickly replied, “thank you for serving”. He then replied, “not many people agreed when we returned home from Vietnam”, which I can agree with him from my history lesson. I then thought in my mind that it wasn’t his or any of the soldiers fault as I “blame” the “U.S. Government” (based on research I found). Anyways, he appeared to not want to chat more on this topic as he slowly walked away and went inside the RFC. I quickly prayed in my mind for him and thought about other Vets I know and have met.
Below are some notes I’ve collected on this topic on my facebook pic..
Veterans statistics: PTSD, Depression, TBI, Suicide.
19% of veterans may have traumatic brain injury (TBI)
-recent sample of 600 veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan found: 14% post-traumatic stress disorder; 39% alcohol abuse; 3% drug abuse. Major depression also a problem.
-in times of peace, in any given year, about 4% (actually 3.6%) of the general population have PTSD (caused by natural disasters, car accidents, abuse, etc.)
-Oddly, statistics for veteran tobacco use are never reported alongside PTSD statistics, even though increases in rates of smoking are strongly correlated with the stress of deployment and combat, and smoking statistics show that tobacco use is tremendously damaging and costly for soldiers.

“….I did not know what to do, I was afraid to go to sleep in fear the enemy (VC) Viet Cong would hurt my family. I decided the only way out where the enemy could no longer hurt me or my family was to take a lot of medication and to commit suicide. I began taking medication and took about 26 or so pills the day of January 17, 1991. I knew that by taking that much medication it could possibly kill me, I was ready to stop living. …n my last breath of air, I just put both of my hands toward heaven and said to God, “DO SOMETHING WITH ME NOW OR TAKE ME HOME”. I took my last breath. The next thing that I remembered wad seeing white and my arms were still stretched toward heaven, I was numb all over and could not move, and was so hot inside, but I felt a peace in my mind. As I looked up toward heaven I heard these words, “WILLIAM YOU MUST NAME ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT YOU HATE EVEN ALL OF THE VIETNAMESE THAT YOU HATE AND ALSO THE ONES THAT YOU THINK THAT YOU HATE, AND THEN ASK ME FOR FORGIVENESS. I said Lord I don’t hate anyone anymore, “AND GOD SAID NAME EACH PERSON.” So I started to name the ones that I hated and then ask God for forgiveness….”
“…Just take some examples: The veterans – men and women – who are coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Here we are talking about more than a million vets. Simply coming back and resting for a while doesn’t heal their wounds. Our friend, Rev. Nigel Mumford is a veteran of English military who saw fellow soldiers killed and personally experienced healing for PTSD. He is now planning “Welcome Home” programs for wounded vets and is in touch with the Pentagon and UK military leaders for prospects on future programs. This is a huge need and requires experience and time that most healing ministries simply do not have. For instance, Judith and I spent an entire weekend ministering to a Vietnam vet who hadn’t been able to sleep in a bed for 20 years, but after prayer was able to sleep through the night for the first time in 20 years. And there are millions more who need prayer because human sources of healing are good as far as they go, but they don’t reach down into the very depths of the souls of vets who have been wounded or have seen friends die…”
“…ck to that moment to relive it again and again. So what is the answer?
One of the ways to defuse the memories is to expose them. I’ve heard it said that you are only as sick as the secrets you keep but revealing is healing! When you bring the event into the light, darkness loses its power!! The enemy would have you keep the memory under lock and key in the fortress of your mind. But Paul tells us that light and darkness can’t coexist. Darkness loses its power when you turn on the light! Exposing it and releasing it allows Jesus to restore your soul!
The word restoration in itself means to be put back together to its original state. We can infer that this means “before the trauma.” And if it’s before the trauma, then those memories aren’t going to continue to wreak havoc on your soul. You may still remember that place, but it won’t be so painful. I think of it much like a scar reminds you of a past wound or surgery. You see the reminder…but it doesn’t hurt anymore….”

How the Mainstream Media Fuels Racism to Provoke Race War
By Robert Seraphim 25
November 2014 nationalistpartyamerica.com
*Satan “father of all lies” is behind all this!
“..The mainstream media acts to divide the American people, not simply by political labels, (labels which they define) but also by any means necessary such and race, skin color, gender, religion, etc. To a large extent, the Republican and Democratic Parties rely on keeping us Americans divided by “race”. This is where the media comes to their aid in enhancing and creating racial divisions between common citizens. They do this by embracing the fragments of racism still left in the country and then use those extremes to (directly and indirectly) generalize whole groups of people as having the same mind.
The mainstream media plays to the political establishments divide and conquer strategy with great effectiveness, not just over race, but also anything that could help divide the American people! The mainstream media pays close attention to the fanatic fringe groups in America and makes good use of them by portraying them over and over again as mainstream and serious, generalizing entire groups of people based on only a handful of lunatics.
Making sure the American people are divided is essential for the political establishment and the mainstream media does all it can to promote division amongst the people even on the simplest of issues. This allows the political parties to “power up” their supports by playing one off the other no matter how superficial the reason may seem. For black and white Americans – the media will go to the KKK and tell you how bad all white people are and/or go to the New Black Panthers and tell you how bad all black people are! They will repeat this over and over again for weeks on their news stations until it is burned into your mind! And yes, subconsciously it starts to affect how you see your fellow American.
The media needs to create and enhance racial conflict (or at minimum, the perception of such) so the political establishment can use their divide and conquer strategy more effectively. They will play and replay fanatic speech from the small fringe faction on both sides and tell you this is what EVERYONE on both sides really believe! This is the perception the media creates and every group has its militant fringe which the mainstream media is drawn to. Remember, the mainstream media only reports what they want you to hear/see. ..”

“…TV network NBC took race-baiting to new depths, with its own humiliating admission that it had in fact edited and then aired audio clips of George Zimmerman’s 911 call to the police in order to give the impression that the caller, Zimmerman, was racially profiling the victim Martin. In repsonse, NBC scapegoated a producer by firing him, and the network walked away clean from the incident – when other smaller media outlets have had their broadcast licenses revoked for lesser offenses…

Mass Media and Racism
by Stephen Balkaran Volume 21, Number 1
October 1999 yale.edu
The media have not studied important events in the African-American community today. Issues such as urbanization, education, poverty, and other elements have a significant bearing on positions of the black community. A good example of this is the media portrayal of the Los Angeles riot in 1992. What we witnessed in Los Angeles was the consequence of a lethal linkage of economic decline, cultural decay, and political lethargy in American life.
Race was the visible catalyst, not the underlying cause, as media portrayed it to be. 5 The portrayal of this individual event encouraged the perception that the black community was solely responsible for the riots and disturbances. According to reports, of those arrested, only 36% were black and of those arrested, more than a third had full-time jobs and most had no political affiliation. 6 Some 60% of the rioters and looters were made up of Hispanics and whites. Yet the media did not report this underlying fact. The media portrayal of this event along with other race riots has again inflicted negative charges and scorn on black awareness. Race riots in Miami in 1980 were similar to the later Los Angeles riots. Here the media also refused to search for the underlying cause behind the protest choosing instead only to depict African-American males engaged in violence and destruction. The underlying factors behind these problems were never researched or explained in prior stories..”

“..Rodney King, ‘Black Motorist’
Rodney King is a convicted felon with a long criminal record. On March 3, 1991, he was out of jail on parole, and driving recklessly and at great speed through residential streets of Los Angeles. It was later determined that he was blind drunk — there was 2½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood, and there was marijuana in his system — and his driving showed it….
Virtually all television stations chose to show only the last part, in which Mr. King was on the ground and was being pounded in a way that appeared — and may well have been — excessive. A careful study of the entire tape suggests that the beating stopped when Mr. King did as he was told and kept still….
However, because Mr. King is black, the media had a ready-made explanation for the beating. “Racism” explained it, and the media gave full voice to the war-cry that means they think they have a sure enough white “racist” in their sights. The media scarcely mentioned what Mr. King had done to provoke a beating. They ignored the fact that Mr. King had two companions with him in the car, both of whom were black, both of whom did what the police told them to do, both of whom were unharmed … And of course, they turned a deaf ear when Mr. King himself said he did not think the police beat him because he was black. [Henry Weinstein, White says jury was the worst possible, LA Times, May 8, 1992, p. A3.] Thus, the media took what was, at worst, an ambiguous incident and blew it into a huge case of white racism…..

Fact-checking claims about race, crime after Ferguson

“..This is a case where a statistic is accurate and well-documented, but it doesn’t address key elements in the bigger picture. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, 93 percent of black homicides were indeed committed by other blacks between 1980 and 2008. In 2012, the most recent data posted on the Web, the figure was 91 percent.
It’s important to note that whites were almost equally likely to be killed by other whites. According to government data, 84 percent of white homicides were committed by whites. This was true between 1980 and 2008 and in 2012.
Experts have stressed that this is not surprising because most homicides occur among people who know each other.
On the other hand, blacks do suffer from higher murder rates than whites. Young black men, ages 14 to 24, suffer disproportionately from murder, as about 16 percent of homicide victims in 2008 were young and black. As a group, they represented just 1 percent of the population. On the offender side, young black men accounted for 27 percent of everyone who committed murder in 2008. Young white men accounted for 16 percent…
When It Comes To Illegal Drug Use, White America Does The Crime, Black America Gets The Time

“…White Americans are more likely than black Americans to have used most kinds of illegal drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and LSD. Yet blacks are far more likely to go to prison for drug offenses.
This discrepancy forms the backdrop of a new legislative proposal in California, which aims to reduce the disproportionate incarceration of black people in the state. Supporters of the bill, SB 649, point to some striking national data.
Nearly 20 percent of whites have used cocaine, compared with 10 percent of blacks and Latinos, according to a 2011 survey from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration — the most recent data available….

“.. No one will mourn for me … No one will pray for my soul. … I’ve never prayed. … Nobody has taught me how.”
There’s more to the movie – a lot more – but I will leave that out in case you have not seen it yet. What I’d like to focus on is what I’ll call “The Gravity Prayer.”…
One reflection I would like to make after watching this video again is when God asked Moses to take his sandals off. I saw that as symbol of “us” needing to come to Him with a heart of repentance (humbly going to Him with a heart of forgiveness of our sins). We need to come to Him with a “clean” heart as He is a “holy” God. How can we do that? (Answer: Salvation through a personal relationship with His Son-Yeshua/Jesus Christ)
How can “we” hear God? How do you pray? What is the purpose of prayer?

Earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal 2015 | New Video | Nepali News नेपालमा शक्तिशाली भूकम्प
A magnitude 7.9 earthquake in Nepal ( Nepali Video )
A powerful earthquake shook Nepal killing more than 2152 people, flattening sections of the city’s historic center, and trapping dozens of sightseers in a 200-foot watchtower that came crashing down into a pile of bricks.
As officials in Nepal faced the devastation on Sunday morning, they said that most of the 2152 deaths occurred in Katmandu and the surrounding valley, and that more than 4,700 people had been injured. But the quake touched a vast expanse of the subcontinent. It set off avalanches around Mount Everest, where at least 17 climbers died. At least 34 deaths occurred in northern India. Buildings swayed in Tibet and Bangladesh.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck shortly before noon, and residents of Katmandu ran into the streets and other open spaces as buildings fell, throwing up clouds of dust. Wide cracks opened on paved streets and in the walls of city buildings. Motorcycles tipped over and slid off the edge of a highway.
Four of the area’s seven Unesco World Heritage sites were severely damaged in the earthquake: Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a temple complex built in the shape of a conch shell; Patan Durbar Square, which dates to the third century; Basantapur Durbar Square, which was the residence of Nepal’s royal family until the 19th century; and the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in the Himalayas.

“…On Sunday, Nepal began coming to terms with the death and devastation left by earthquakes and aftershocks. At least 2,430 people died in Nepal alone, and that number is sure to climb. Counting fatalities in India and China, more than 2,500 were killed…..
Cheers for a survivor
Only a few bright moments occurred in Kathmandu.
A clip on Nepal State Television showed uniformed soldiers frantically digging through rubble in a tight space and slowly extracting a man in a while shirt and a green belt. They slid the man onto a stretcher and carried him down a ladder to the street below where onlookers cheered.
Many other rescues were performed by regular citizens or tourists — people dressed in street clothes who lacked stretchers and other proper tools. In one scene, four men carried an injured man in their arms while a fifth man ran beside the group, fanning the man’s face with a magazine.
Formanek said people are banding together in other ways, with stores shuttered and very few sources of food and drinkable water.
“Communal kitchens have been set up for cooking. Not by the government — people set them up on their own,” she said….
The world came together to help the victims of the deadly typhoon of my parent’s homeland (Philippines), so I wanted to show my gratitude by doing what I can to help the victims from the earthquake in Nepal the other day (Saturday, April 25th 2015-U.S. Central Daylight Time)…
What can “we” do?
7.8 earthquake in Nepal, time to pray. from stepsofjustice.org
“On the morning of April 25 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Nepal and the surrounding areas. Over 1,300 people have died in the past 12+ hours and that number will only rise in the next few days. As brothers and sisters we need to respond to our fellow man and woman in that region. There is no wrong way to respond, the only wrong thing is not to respond. Here are a few ways you can respond to this need currently.
Pray– Pray for peace and healing. Pray that the aftershocks will be few and of low magnitude. Pray for the workers who are going in there to help with the recovery efforts. Pray and ask if Jesus wants you to give or go.
Give– There are many ways to give to this need. There are also many organizations who are providing ways to give. Here are a few from an article in Mashable:
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to the disastrous quake, from samaritanspurse.org
A Samaritan’s Purse disaster response team member who arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the early morning hours on Sunday is seeing incredible destruction, death, and need.
“There’s a lot of hurting people here,” said Patrick Seger, the team leader for our response. “I saw a number of needs out there, a number of dead people, a lot of structures had fallen. A lot of people lost their homes and lost their incomes. They’re trying to figure out what they’re going to do.”….
