A Brief History of Germany… Before there was a Germany

Word With a Past: How Did Germany Become the Hun? By pamela on December 27, 2011 historyinthemargins.com
“..Ironically, it was Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, who first linked Germany to the Huns. Speaking in 1900 to German soldiers waiting to sail to China to help lift the siege of Peking in the Boxer Rebellion, Kaiser Wilhelm told his troops to fight “like the Huns under their King Attila a thousand years ago” so that “the name of Germany shall become known in China to such affect that no Chinaman will ever again dare so much as to look askance at a German.” Ruthless was the name of the game, according to the Kaiser: “Pardon will not be given, prisoners will not be taken. Whoever falles into your hands will fall to your sword.”..”

Protestant Churches and the Nazi State facinghistory.org
“.. Catholics in Germany were united in one church. Germany’s 45 million Protestants were not. Most were members of the Lutheran, Reformed, or United Churches. In each German state, the members of these denominations joined together to form a regional Protestant church. Protestants in Germany differed not only in their religious practices but also in their political views. A few openly opposed the Nazis, while others saw themselves as neutral. Still others actively supported Nazism, calling themselves “storm troopers of Jesus Christ.” As a result, as Protestant churches responded to National Socialism, some struggled to preserve the independence of their churches from politics and government, while others sought to claim a central place for Christianity in Nazi Germany…

Second, the Nazi leadership urged Protestants to unite all regional churches into a national church under the centralized leadership of Ludwig Müller, a well-known pastor and Nazi Party member, who was appointed as Reich bishop. Many German Protestants embraced these changes. By supporting the German Christian movement and Müller, they could continue to practice their faith and at the same time show support for Hitler. In a national vote by Protestants taken in July 1933, the German Christians were supported by two-thirds of voters, and Müller won the national election to lead them.”

Christianity in Wartime Germany, and Religion in World … – YouTube

Christianity had a favored status in World War II Germany. For example, Christian crosses were displayed in many public school classrooms and other public buildings, especially in Bavaria and other largely Catholic regions. German army soldiers’ belt buckles bore the words “God With Us,” and churches in wartime Germany were packed. In spite of some tensions between religious and political leaders, the vast majority of Germans (including the clergy) remained loyal to Hitler and his regime to the bitter end. Many people mistakenly accept the propaganda view that during World War II the US and its allies supported Christianity, while Germany and its Axis partners were satanically anti-religious. But America’s most important military ally was the Soviet Union, a belligerently atheist state that ruthlessly suppressed religion.

The Other Victims of the Nazis Ina R. Friedman socialstudies.org

“..Fifty years after the end of World War II, few people are aware that Jews were not the only victims of the Nazis. In addition to six million Jews, more than five million non-Jews were murdered under the Nazi regime. Among them were Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, blacks, the physically and mentally disabled, political opponents of the Nazis, including Communists and Social Democrats, dissenting clergy, resistance fighters, prisoners of war, Slavic peoples, and many individuals from the artistic communities whose opinions and works Hitler condemned.1
The Nazis’ justification for genocide was the ancient claim, passed down through Nordic legends, that Germans were superior to all other groups and constituted a “master race.”..”

How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington Sat 25 Sep 2004 18.59 EDT theguardian.com
“..George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.
The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company’s assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

..
It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty….

But now the multibillion dollar legal action for damages by two Holocaust survivors against the Bush family, and the imminent publication of three books on the subject are threatening to make Prescott Bush’s business history an uncomfortable issue for his grandson, George W, as he seeks re-election…

Prescott Bush was sympathetic to the Nazi cause, the documents reveal that the firm he worked for, Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH), acted as a US base for the German industrialist, Fritz Thyssen, who helped finance Hitler in the 1930s before falling out with him at the end of the decade. The Guardian has seen evidence that shows Bush was the director of the New York-based Union Banking Corporation (UBC) that represented Thyssen’s US interests and he continued to work for the bank after America entered the war.

“Nazism was not a Christian movement in any meaningful sense https://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-an…

German Protestants of the 1920s and 1930s shared many Nazi assumptions and voted disproportionately for the Nazi party, partly in the hope that they might use it for their own ends. One result was the German Christian movement, which tried to create a dejudaised Christianity which the Nazi state would accept with a place in the coming Aryan utopia. Many moderate, sensible Christians in Germany, even in the supposedly anti-Nazi ‘Confessing Church’, collaborated with the regime in other ways. This lecture will explore how so many Christians came to support Nazism, and how some managed to oppose it.

“..In September 1934 Wurm was initially suspended from office because of his position on church policy, and then placed under house arrest twice by the Württemberg Interior Ministry. After a consultation with Hitler on October 30, 1934, these repressive measures were revoked. In the same year Wurm conclusively withdrew from the “German Christians” and attended synods of the Confessional Church, but distanced himself from positions of its resolute wing. However, he repeatedly lodged complaints with representatives of the National Socialist Party and the state, and from 1940 on he protested several times against the murder of patients from psychiatric clinics and homes. As a result, in 1944 he was banned from making speeches and publishing. Theophil Wurm, who was close to the resistance circles around Carl Goerdeler and Ludwig Beck, survived the war. In 1941, upon learning of the euthanasia program, Clemens August Graf von Galen, bishop of Münster, spoke out.

Bishop von Galen, later became archbishop and later a cardinal, was a Roman Catholic churchman from Germany who, when he initially became a bishop, was actually known for being quite sympathetic to Nazism. But with the so-called euthanasia program, murder of disabled people, von Galen increasingly became distressed.

ABOUT THIS FILM: The German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the first, and strongest, voices of resistance to Adolf Hitler. An acclaimed preacher, pacifist and author, Bonhoeffer came to the famed Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem on a teaching fellowship. When Bonhoeffer returned to Germany in 1932 he had a new awareness of racial prejudice and challenged Christian churches to stand with the Jews in their moment of need. Bonhoeffer eventually joined the unsuccessful plots to assassinate Hitler and was executed three weeks before the end of the war.”

“..On this day in 1943, a working-class German couple were executed for treason and sedition in Berlin, Germany: Otto and Elise Hampel’s reign of postcard-writing terror had finally come to its conclusion…

They were unrepentant after their arrests in October 1942, and had little to say for themselves, beyond Otto’s statement that he was “happy” about protesting against Hitler. Roland Freisler‘s People’s Court duly condemned them to die for “preparation for high treason” and “demoralizing the troops.” They were executed by guillotine in the Plötzensee Prison.

For some reason, unlike their equally courageous, foolish and doomed counterparts in the White Rose, the Hampels’ story didn’t really catch on with historians.

They were saved from oblivion by the dangerously unstable, drug-addicted author Rudolf Ditzen, aka Hans Fallada, who came upon their Gestapo file after the war.

His 1947 novel, Every Man Dies Alone, written in just 24 days, is closely based on Elise and Otto’s story. This book was Fallada’s swan song; he died weeks before its publication. Titled Jeder stirbt für sich allein in Germany, it was not translated into English until 2009 — but it then became a runaway bestseller in the United States and (under the title Alone in Berlin) in Great Britain.”

Movie Reflection: Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Fred Rogers | People | Pioneers of Television | PBS pbs.org
“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

Rogers’ famous sneakers became his choice in footwear after he found that they allowed him to walk quietly behind the scenes of the live television productions. The host’s trademark opening song, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, became part of the national consciousness in 1968, when “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” began airing in Pittsburgh and was soon picked up by several other large markets, including Boston and New York. In 1969 PBS contracted the show, and it was broadcast nationally…

Rogers is also known for his vociferous protection of children, and in 1969 he testified in front of a congressional subcommittee to oppose funding cuts to public broadcasting. During the moving testimony, Rogers recited the lyrics to one of his popular songs. “Fred Rogers has proven that television can soothe the soul and nurture the spirit and teach the very young,” said President George W. Bush as he awarded the soft-spoken pioneer the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution to children’s education initiatives. The award came just months before Rogers’ death…”

Mr. Rogers was my actual neighbor. He was everything he was on TV and more. By Adam Eisenstat Jul 26, 2018, 9:40am EDT vox.com
“..This year marks the golden anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood — 50 years since the children’s TV staple was first broadcast nationally — and a flood of high-profile tributes is well underway. There’s a postage stamp commemorating Fred Rogers, the show’s affable host; a star-powered PBS special; a documentary; and coming later this year, a Rogers biography and a biopic starring Tom Hanks as Rogers…
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was produced in my hometown Pittsburgh, which gave the show an outsize presence there. Some of the cast members were local celebrities: Don Brockett, who played Chef Brockett on the show, was on my paper route. He and other characters from the show appeared frequently at children’s events and charity functions. Mr. Rogers himself, as I found out one day, lived a mere two blocks from me. …

That’s when I got to Mr. Rogers’s house. I recognized him as soon as he opened the door. Though he maintained a certain formality — I was a stranger, after all — he was entirely gracious and approachable. I acted, though, as if I had never seen him. I didn’t want to appear starstruck, and anyway, I didn’t even like his show. Instead, I focused on the task at hand: Do not leave without something. I had to end the day with at least one donation.

After I stammered out my introduction, he invited me in and we stood in the foyer, where he heard my pitch. To my surprise, he really listened to me, asking me questions and requesting that I elaborate on some of the points I was making. The entire day I had been knocking on doors, not a single person asked me why I was doing what I was doing. ..

When I got back home, I stared at the single dollar I had collected, as if in a trance. Mr. Rogers and the world I had stumbled into briefly after ringing his doorbell, the very world conjured on his show, offered a glimpse into how things could be if adults treated children with real respect.

Fred Rogers’s ethos was unlike any other: scrupulously moderate, tolerant, and anti-consumerist, driven by cutting-edge models of child development and infused with dollops of real Christian love. (Rogers was in fact an ordained Presbyterian minister.)..

On May 1, 1969, Fred Rogers, host of the (then) recently nationally syndicated children’s television series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (named Misterogers’ Neighborhood at the time), testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce Subcommittee on Communications to defend $20 million in federal funding proposed for the newly formed non-profit Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was at risk of being reduced to $10 million. Subcommittee chairman, Senator John Pastore (D-RI), unfamiliar with Fred Rogers, is initially abrasive toward him. “..During his years in the Senate, he became a senior member of the Commerce and Appropriations committees and had served for a time as joint chairman of the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy. He also also had chaired Commerce’s communications subcommittee, which had jurisdiction over television and radio.

..From his communications subcommittee chair, he had been an early critic of what he regarded as excessive portrayal of both sex and violence on network television. And as both a New Englander and a sports fan, he was instrumental in getting network executives to modify their rules concerning the “blackout” of major sports events.

..

If he will be remembered in Washington for his speaking ability, the skillful use of his committee assignments and a combative integrity, he may be best remembered in Rhode Island as the first Italian American to win election as governor and senator and as a man who dominated the state’s political scene for decades without losing a single election.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? a Tribute to Mister Rogers’ Enduring Legacy www1.cbn.com
“..ighborhood. As a matter of fact, it was probably my favorite show when I was a little kid. He was just such a seemingly gentle and compassionate man. Did you find him to be the same way, as his friend and pastor?

Yes, and it’s an important word that you just used “seemingly,” because some people on TV who are personalities and well known aren’t exactly in person the way they are on the screen. You understand that. But Fred Rogers was the real deal, and the gentle, kind, loving compassionate person that you saw in the neighborhood who wrote all the scripts and did many of the puppets himself, he was the same person, the one you would sit at lunch together and talk for hours, and I think it was one of the unique things about him, Chris, and I use the word “incarnate ministry” for Fred Rogers. He was able to touch millions of people through the screen, through the TV, through the books and through commencement addresses. But he also touched God knows how many one-on-one or in small groups, especially people who were down and out and hurting or disabled in any way. He had a compassion for people who were struggling. He truly had an incarnate ministry…

That people would leave the theater together with tears in their eyes, joy in their heart. I hope a resolve to be more kind, to be more loving, a resolve to be faith in action, a resolve to reach out to the marginalized people, a resolve to be a better person of faith, a hope that people will take away a resolve to be who God has called us to be, whatever faith dimension we’ve got. In many cases, for people who have no faith dimension, I hope that they will have a resolve to actually be more like Fred Rogers.”

Love Thy Neighbor as Mister Rogers Did KENNETH R. MOREFIELD| JUNE 7, 2018 christianitytoday.com
“..In March 2000, Christianity Today ran a cover story about Rogers, equating adults who evaded the call to love their neighbor with the self-justifying expert in the law who interrogated Jesus and prompted the parable of the Good Samaritan. The 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (which, in a bit of historic irony, featured King Friday building a wall around his kingdom in its first episode) has prompted a new outpouring of affection and appreciation for Rogers and his work. But as the documentary illustrates, a large part of the current wave of appreciation has more to do with Rogers being ahead of his time than with his being a symbol of a simpler past.

…To cite just one example, the film cuts between scenes of Rogers soaking his feet in a plastic pool alongside a black actor and footage of whites throwing bleach into public swimming venues that had recently been integrated. Sometimes a demonstration of solidarity with the oppressed and compassion for the persecuted makes a greater impact than any laws, sermons, or tweets. Rogers’s television show may be wrongly remembered in some quarters as innocuous pabulum, but its host was actually quite brave, talking to kids about topics like divorce, the assassination of Robert Kennedy, and the explosion of the space shuttle, and trusting that, with loving guidance, they could handle it.

Part of what made Rogers enduringly successful is that he viewed the television show as his ministry rather than simply as a platform for his message. “I got into television because I hated it so,” he once admitted. But after earning his divinity degree in 1962, he had realized that the medium would be a “fabulous instrument to nurture those who would watch and listen.” Producer Margy Whitmer explains in the film that Rogers’s formula was to “take all of the elements that make good television and do the exact opposite.” That’s a great quip, but even more, it is a powerful reminder of the potential for Christians to transform their industry rather simply conform to it.

“..Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley’s classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley’s first RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel”, was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial. ..”

Built along the shore of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), near seventeen natural hot springs, the northern Israeli city of Tiberias is known as the “City of Water.” It is considered one of the four “Holy Cities” in Israel.

Some 2,000 years ago, Tiberias was the center of Jewish study and the last seat of the Sanhedrin (Supreme Court of Jewish law). After enduring constant wars throughout the Middle Ages, the city was revived by an influx of kabbalists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The city’s major attractions are the Kinneret, its natural hot springs and the graves of many historical luminaries…”

Sea of Galilee in Israel

The Sea of Galilee is also known in the Bible as the Sea of Gennesaret, Sea of Tiberias, and Sea of Kinnereth. The Sea of Galilee isn’t really a “sea” per se – it is actually a freshwater lake fed by nearby mountains and springs, which combine at the head of the Jordan River to the north. The Jordan River then passes through the lake, which is about 13 miles long and 8 miles wide. The Sea of Galilee is 686 feet below sea level, making it the lowest freshwater lake in the world.

The landscape around the Sea of Galilee is unique. To the east and west, the ground rises steeply from the shore to fertile plateaus above. The black basalt boulders that cover the hillsides are typical of a landscape that was once volcanic. From the southern shore, you can see the twin peaks of Mount Canaan to the north, with the snow-covered Mount Hermon way beyond in the distance. From the west, you can see the small white houses of Ein Gev over on the eastern shore. Beyond Ein Gev rises a hill that was the site of the Hellenistic town, Hippos. From the east, you can see Magdala Bay on the northwestern shore, which lies just below biblical Tabgha and Capernaum.

The land surrounding the Sea of Galilee today appears rather quiet and barren. However, history tells us that this wasn’t the case during the time of Jesus. This was a hub for agriculture and trade.

“..THE SURRENDER MOVIE
In addition to being an active duty officer in the Air Force special operations, Damon serves as Executive Producer for “Surrender”, a faith-based film that follows true-life stories of six elite combat warriors representing four branches of the US Special Operations Command. The docudrama highlights these challenges and shares messages of hope and purpose to those who are suffering with post-traumatic stress and brings awareness to the suicide epidemic among veterans. Every 65 minutes a warrior commits suicide. “They believe that life no longer has meaning,” shares Damon. The film, an outreach of SOF Missions, gives viewers a glimpse of the powerful events that enable the story’s heroes to find strength and a path away from personal destruction to the One who heals both heart and soul. The backgrounds, branches of service, and personal experiences of each hero are vastly different, yet their personal pain is common to many—even to some outside of the service. The film reveals how God led each person to the point of fully surrendering to Him. To purchase the DVD go http://www.sofmissions.com/shop. In 2017, the DVD will be available on Amazon and iTunes.

Workplace Conflict : How To Resolve Conflict in Workplace – YouTube

Sal: I’ve encountered “conflict” in my various workplaces directly and indirectly. One time at my job working at Taco Bell (fast food), I was accused of stealing money. I was furious when my shift manager told me to go home until this was resolved. I would later get a call that he caught a co-worker stealing money from him, which she admitted “framing” (she planted a $20 bill in my back pack that I used to change clothes) me. I would never find out why she did this, but have speculations. I was giving my job back and this other co-worker was fired.

Another conflict that I was “indirectly” involved and became a somewhat “peacemaker”. A co-worker had been working his second job and was getting burned out. He took his frustration at this current job and he started to argue with our boss. The boss got a little “heated” and I intervened to voluntarily do a certain job my boss was requesting from this co-worker. During “work” awhile after, my co-worker started to just share his gathered thoughts and realized he should not have done this. During our deep conversation, we were “distracted” with a work-related issue. However, I was going to try to tell my co-worker to confront our boss and ask for forgiveness. Well, this “workplace conflict” got resolved at a staff meeting later on, so my prayers were answered..praise the Lord!

Minnesota Vikings Players Credit the Lord for ‘Miracle’ Playoff Victory: ‘That Was God’ By Samuel Smith , CP Reporter | Jan 15, 2018 1:04 PM christianpost.com
QB: Winning Important Playoff Game Not Bigger Moment Than When I Accepted Christ
“..Minnesota Vikings players are crediting the power of the Lord after they miraculously escaped Sunday’s NFL divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints with a victory that puts them one win away from reaching Super Bowl LII, which will be held in their own stadium…

“I ran the route, my QB gave me a great throw. God took care of the rest,” Diggs, a former standout at the University of Maryland, told ESPN after the game. “If you watch the play, a guy ran into another guy. I give all the glory to God. I give him the praise on this praise Sunday.”

“I still don’t know what just happened. I really don’t,” Diggs added when asked what he was thinking when he scored the game-winning touchdown. “I give it to God because without Him nothing is possible and I wouldn’t be here.”

Fellow Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen, a Minnesota native, agreed after the game and remarked, “That was God.”

“That play right there was God,” Thielen said, according to Sports Illustrated.

The 29-year-old quarterback, Keenum, who had a breakout season in 2017 after struggling through early parts of his career and will now be quarterbacking in the NFC Championship game, also praised the Lord.

“God is so good,” Keenum told Fox in a televised interview after the game. “It’s probably the third best day of my life; the day I gave my life to Jesus Christ, the day I married my wife, and probably this one.”..”

Another Vikings wide receiver, Adam Thielen, described the final play this way: “That was God. That play right there was God.”

“God is so good,” Keenum said after the game.

“It’s probably gonna go down as the third best moment of my life; behind giving my life to Jesus Christ, marrying my wife, and this one’s right there close,” Keenum continued.

“…That, however, hasn’t stopped the Texas native, and, now, Keenum is primed for one of the biggest performances of his career, leading the Vikings in the postseason as the squad sets its sights on Super Bowl glory. Keenum wasn’t the planned starter in Minnesota this year, but he’s hit his stride under center with a team that’s rallied around his underdog mentality. And, through it all, Keenum has relied on the his family to keep him positive. Here’s everything you need to know about the QB’s support system:..

4. Keenum Credits Family & Faith for his Success…

It’s been a challenging road to postseason glory for Keenum – he was recruited by just one Division I program out of high school, set a handful of records at Houston, but was sidelined with an ACL injury and went undrafted out of college. Still, the quarterback never lost his faith or the support of his family. In fact, throughout his season with the Vikings, Keenum has been quick to point out how important both are to his success on the gridiron.

He told Pioneer Press:

That’s why I became a Christian — being around Christian athletes through FCA. I’m not playing for the name on the back of my jersey, I’m playing to glorify God. He’s given me talents, and I’m trying to maximize those talents however I can.

There have been plenty of detractors throughout his career, but Keenum’s family hasn’t shied away from voicing their support. His father, Steve, told Pioneer Press, “He’s a good man that loves his Lord and loves his wife, loves kids and he loves to play football. I wouldn’t play golf with him, and I wouldn’t hunt with him, because he’ll make you look bad.”

Vikings to face Saints in rematch of 2009 NFC championship game By Chris Tomasson | ctomasson@pioneerpress.com | Pioneer Press

Eight years later, the Vikings can get some revenge against the New Orleans Saints.

With the Saints defeating Carolina 31-26 in a wild-card game Sunday at home, they advanced to face the Vikings in a divisional playoff at 3:40 p.m. next Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. It will be the first playoff meeting between the teams since New Orleans defeated Minnesota 31-28 in overtime in the 2009 NFC championship game.

The Vikings are the No. 2 seed in the NFC while the Saints are No. 4. The teams met in the Sept. 11 season opener, with Minnesota winning 29-19 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Vikings have a 2-1 playoff series edge over New Orleans, winning a wild-card game in 1987 and a divisional game in 2000. But the Saints won the most important game between the teams on Jan. 24, 2010 at the Superdome and two weeks later beat Indianapolis 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV.

Afterward, many on the Vikings alleged Saints players were trying to take quarterback Brett Favre out of the game. In 2011, the NFL initiated the “Bountygate” investigation.

In 2012, the league ruled there was a system in place in which Saints players were illegally paid bonuses for injuring opposing players. Penalties included coach Sean Payton and then-defensive coordinator Gregg Williams suspended for the entire 2012 season.

The only Vikings player remaining from the 2009 NFC championship game is defensive end Brian Robison. When asked last week about the possibility of rematch against the Saints, he said, “I’m not worried about that. This is 2017. That’s a long time ago.”

The Vikings went 13-3 during the regular season and won the NFC North while the Saints went 11-5 and won the NFC South. New Orleans didn’t look like a playoff-caliber team in the loss to open the season at Minnesota and started 0-2 before winning eight straight games.

The Chiefs signed Foles before the 2016 season and he appeared in three games, making one start. Foles completed 36-of-55 passes for 410 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

“I talked a lot to my wife and I remember just saying a prayer,” Foles said this week. “I literally said a prayer and then … my heart said go back. At that moment, it was going to back to play for coach Reid, and when I did, you know, I am a better person because of that decision.

Viking fans say ‘Skol Vikings!’ Ever wonder what ‘skol’ means? Now you will, if you read this story.
‘..Anyway, at the end of the battle, Viking warriors would decapitate the king or leader of the tribe/army they had just vanquished and that night would drink from his skull–spelled skoll–as a sign of respect for the fallen opponent. It was only then, Viking warriors believed, could an opponent who had fought valiantly be allowed into Valhalla.

In battle, Vikings would urge each other forward by yelling “SKOLL” to one another. By doing so, they were telling each other to keep it up so they could drink from the skull (and the top of a lopped off skull looks roughly like a..wait for it…BOWL!!) of the Vanquished that night…”

I just watched this movie this “morning”…yes, this morning! First time I can remember “ever” watching a movie in the morning! My friends and I drove 45+ minutes to a great “seat-reclining” theater (Alexandria, MN)..

When we got there (30 minutes prior to the showing and 15 minutes prior to it being opened), we were like one of the first ones to get there. Then a bunch of cars started coming. We decided to go fall in line 5 minutes prior to the time the doors will be opened. Later, we would be thankful that we did this as we got close to tickets being sold out for the 11:45am showing. We would’ve just had to wait another hour for the 2nd showing. However, being towards the end of tickets being nearly sold out, we had to pick seats up front in the very 1st row. Fortunately, the seats reclined, so we were able to lay our heads back and see much of the big screen a “little better”!

Rey then was able to conclude herself the whole story after hearing both sides. This is an important life lesson as “we” all tend to have misconceptions (see Deep Thought: Ever been misunderstood? goodnewseverybodycom.wordpress.com ) due to hearing only “one-side of the story”. This will lead to “miscommunication” and “false perceptions” on individual(s). Just like how wars start in real life, we “need” to hear both sides and “try” to make “peace”!

Sal: After the movie, my friends and I went to Grand Buffet in Alexandria. I thought it was very ironic that I got this “fortune” message..

There was a scene where the “code breaker” finally “gives-up” the “good guys” (Finn & Rose) for “treasure”..greed?
