Egyptian chronology and the Bible—framing the issues by Gary Bates Published: 2 September 2014 (GMT+10)creation.com
Do the dates ascribed to the Egyptian dynasties falsify the date of biblical creation?
“Egyptian chronology can be a challenging subject for biblical creationists. That’s because the secular, majority view about these chronologies extends further back than an objective reading of the biblical chronogenealogies allows for creation: a little over 6,000 years ago. These chronologies are hotly debated among Christians and secularists alike, with the consensus being increasingly challenged. Moreover, some of the incredible Egyptian monuments like the great pyramids on the Giza Plateau have dates ascribed to them that would have them being built before the earth-reshaping Flood of Noah’s time around 4,500 years ago. Following a strict biblical chronology, Egyptian civilization cannot predate creation, nor can the pyramids be pre-Flood constructions….

Pyramid construction

It is true that mystery and debate still surround the methods employed for the construction of the great pyramids of Giza. They were built from massive limestone and sandstone blocks weighing c. 1.5 tons or more, and some granite blocks weighing a staggering 80 tons. …

Why should we be concerned about Egyptian Chronology? Isn’t this just a side issue? Few people realize that Egyptian Chronology is considered by modern archaeologists as the “gold standard” of chronology. That means that is regarded as an accurate record of history. But there is a problem. The Egyptian Chronology, as modern archaeologists understand it, stretches the history of mankind beyond the Biblical timeline for the creation and the Flood. How is it possible that the Pyramids could still be standing if they were built before the Flood! We are left either with a destroyed faith or compromising the Biblical chronology. This seminar will help straighten out the mess and present some alternatives to the current Egyptian Chronology.

Egypt by John Kaltner bibleodyssey.org
“.. is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible almost seven hundred times, and it is referred to another 25 times in the New Testament, making it the most frequently mentioned place outside Canaan in the Bible. In biblical times, Egypt was already an ancient civilization and the pyramids were thousands of years old. Israel’s status as a relative newcomer can be seen in the fact that many of the events described in the Hebrew Bible are set in an era now known as the New Kingdom (1550-1069 B.C.E.), which was the most recent of the major periods of ancient Egyptian history. Egypt and Israel shared a border in antiquity as they do today, and this led to occasional contact and interaction between the peoples of the two lands. Certain biblical passages allow us to get some sense of the nature of that relationship, but Egyptian texts are less helpful in that regard. ..”

A Christian Physicist Examines the Age of
the Earth

by Steven Ball, Ph.D. letu.edu

“..Accepting the Evidence

Finally, we come back to the root cause of the whole controversy. Will accepting an older Earth
be like “giving in” to arguments supporting Darwinism? No, that doesn’t logically follow either.
Although Darwin and his supporters sought evidence for an older Earth to support the theory of
evolution, the finding of such evidence does not necessarily lend credence to his theory. Time
does not necessarily make some things probable. In fact, many experts researching the
probability of random ordering of biological molecules have concluded that this is extremely
remote, even in 14 billion years of time [46]. As a physicist, I see some very convincing
evidence for the antiquity of the Earth, but a plausible theory of naturalistic explanations for the
origin of life has yet to emerge. We see a vastly complex order in the genetic code of even the
very simplest life forms. We are just beginning to understand this complexity while we piece
together the human genome. I find this fascinating, and I welcome what we will find. New
scientific understanding of origins, whether it be origins of the universe, our galaxy, our solar
system, the Earth, or life on Earth, do not pose a threat to the reliability of the Bible. Judging
from previous experience, it promises to provide even more convincing evidence of God’s
remarkable design, built into the universe at every level. ..”

“..Their deliverer came at last from the tribe of Dan. In the small town of Zorah there lived a man by the name of Monoah; his wife was childless. One day an angel appeared to her, declaring that she would become the mother of a son who should, in due time, save the Hebrews from the hand of the Philistines. The boy was from his birth to be dedicated to G‑d as a Nazirite; no razor was ever to touch his hair. Amazed by what she heard, she told it to her husband, who devoutly prayed for another appearance of the Divine messenger. The vision was repeated, and the angel announced again, this time both to Monoah and his wife, the birth of the wondrous child, and renewed his former injunctions.

In due course the child was born, and was named Samson. At an early age, Samson realized that he possessed remarkable strength with which he was able to accomplish superhuman feats. Once he was confronted by a young lion, and without exerting much effort, tore it apart. Realizing that he had been endowed with this strength in order to help his people, Samson sought the occasion to vent his anger on the enemy. ..”

Who was Dagon in the Bible? gotquestions.org
” Answer: Dagon was the chief deity of the Philistines, and the worship of this pagan god dates back the third millennium BC. According to ancient mythology, Dagon was the father of Baal. He was the fish god (dag in Hebrew means “fish”), and he was represented as a half-man, half-fish creature. This image furthered an evolutionary belief that both men and fish had evolved together from the primal waters. Dagon may also have been the provider of grain. So Dagon was similar to many other idols in that he personified natural forces that had supposedly produced all things…”

5. The Hands of Dagon and the Hand of God (1 Samuel 5:1-7:17) bible.org
“..It may appear to the Israelites and to the Philistines that God is now being held hostage by Israel’s enemies. Israel has been defeated in an initial battle with the Philistines, suffering the loss of about 4,000 lives (1 Samuel 4:1-2). The Israelites are wondering how their God could allow them to suffer this defeat, concluding that it is because they did not take the Ark of God into battle with them. Like a large good luck charm, they believe the presence of the Ark will make the difference. Confidently, the Israelites commence fighting. Fearfully, the Philistines rise to the challenge, dreading that it might mean death or defeat for them. Instead, it leads to an even greater defeat for the Israelites. Our text tells us that 30,000 foot soldiers are killed, along with the two priests, Hophni and Phinehas. When Eli learns that his sons are dead and that the Ark has been captured, he falls from his seat, breaking his neck and dying when he falls. He is followed in death by his daughter-in-law as she gives birth to the son she names Ichabod (gone is the glory), in light of the Ark being taken. ..”

When they stood him among the pillars, 26 Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” 27 Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. 28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. God is with you the entire way.
“..Anxiety and fear are relentless, especially when facing a difficult experience like surgery. Your mind can start running crazy, wondering: “What happens if everything doesn’t go according to plan?,” “How painful will the surgery be?,” and “What happens if I don’t make it?” Anxiety and fear are two of the enemy’s most popular weapons that he uses against us. Unchecked fear can keep you in bed for hours past what is healthy or wise. Anxiety can also show us as a fiery anger, in unkind speech and hurtful attitudes. The longer you struggle with fear, the more likely it is for you to be overwhelmed by it, allowing it to control your every decision and move. Choosing not to deal with it can leave you with scars. Even still, we have a promise that “God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability” (1 Corinthians 10:13), and this includes the sinful unbelief of an anxious heart. One of the best ways to rid yourself of the fear that is plaguing you is to turn to prayer and remember that God is control. Here are six prayers for surgery. ..”

Deep Thought: What is “freedom”?

NATIONAL FREEDOM DAY

National Freedom Day, always observed on February 1st, celebrates freedom from slavery. It also recognizes that America is a symbol of liberty. It honors the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865. It was not ratified by the states, however, until later on December 18, 1865.

HOW TO OBSERVE

On this day many towns have festivals and celebrations. Others reflect on the freedoms that the United States honors as well as reflect on and appreciate the goodwill of the United States. For many years, wreath laying at the Liberty Bell has also been a tradition to mark National Freedom Day. LET FREEDOM RING. Use #NationalFreedomDay to post on social media.

Deep Thought: Why people have “suicide” thoughts ?

Suicide Rates In America Are Up. By A Lot. – Newsy – YouTube

Newsy
Published on Apr 22, 2016
“Transcript:
The number of suicides in the U.S. has been steadily rising since 1999, especially among women.
Between 1999 and 2014, the overall suicide rate climbed 24 percent, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s a rate of 13 per 100,000 people.
While rates for males remained higher, suicide among females rose 45 percent.
And among young girls between the ages of 10-14, the rate rose 200 percent to 1.5 per 100,000 people, though the number of suicides within that group still remained comparatively low.
Women ages 45-64 had the second-largest increase: 63 percent to 9.8 per 100,000 people.
The CDC report doesn’t go into what could be behind the change, but it’s worth noting the greatest increases happened between 2006 and 2014 — during and after a major economic recession in the U.S.
Counselors with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline are available 24/7 to help those in crisis. The number is 1-800-273-TALK.”

Finding Hope?

I found “hope” when I got to college. Suicide thoughts became a non-issue for me as I found a personal relationship with God. My friends would tell me the “good news” and I saw a lot of joy and hope in their life, which drew me to want that same “thing” they had. I would later also get a “bigger” perspective of life by listening to other people’s “more” challenging life issues. I started to realize what I was going through was “less challenging” compared to others. I learned about the blessings I really had along, which I never thought about it until I reflected how much more “grateful” and “thankful” to God more of what I have despite the “challenges” I’ve faced.

In addition to being an active duty officer in the Air Force special operations, Damon serves as Executive Producer for “Surrender”, a faith-based film that follows true-life stories of six elite combat warriors representing four branches of the US Special Operations Command. The docudrama highlights these challenges and shares messages of hope and purpose to those who are suffering with post-traumatic stress and brings awareness to the suicide epidemic among veterans. Every 65 minutes a warrior commits suicide. “They believe that life no longer has meaning,” shares Damon. The film, an outreach of SOF Missions, gives viewers a glimpse of the powerful events that enable the story’s heroes to find strength and a path away from personal destruction to the One who heals both heart and soul. The backgrounds, branches of service, and personal experiences of each hero are vastly different, yet their personal pain is common to many—even to some outside of the service. Sal: I’ve encountered “conflict” in my various workplaces directly and indirectly. One time at my job working at Taco Bell (fast food), I was accused of stealing money. I was furious when my shift manager told me to go home until this was resolved. I would later get a call that he caught a co-worker stealing money from him, which she admitted “framing” (she planted a $20 bill in my back pack that I used to change clothes) me. I would never find out why she did this, but have speculations. I was giving my job back and this other co-worker was fired.

Another conflict that I was “indirectly” involved and became a somewhat “peacemaker”. A co-worker had been working his second job and was getting burned out. He took his frustration at this current job and he started to argue with our boss. The boss got a little “heated” and I intervened to voluntarily do a certain job my boss was requesting from this co-worker. During “work” awhile after, my co-worker started to just share his gathered thoughts and realized he should not have done this. During our deep conversation, we were “distracted” with a work-related issue. However, I was going to try to tell my co-worker to confront our boss and ask for forgiveness. Well, this “workplace conflict” got resolved at a staff meeting later on, so my prayers were answered..praise the Lord!

Masoretic Text vs. Original Hebrew August 31, 2015 By Fr. John A. Peck preachersinstitute.com
“…The oldest copies of the Masoretic Text only date back to the 10th century, nearly 1000 years after the time of Christ. And these texts differ from the originals in many specific ways. The Masoretic text is named after theMasoretes, who were scribes and Torah scholars who worked in the middle-east between the 7th and 11th centuries. The texts they received, and the edits they provided, ensured that the modern Jewish texts would manifest a notable departure from the original Hebrew Scriptures…

The Masoretic Text promotes a canon of the Old Testament which is significantly shorter than the canon represented by the Septuagint. Meanwhile, Orthodox Christians and Catholics have Bibles which incorporate the canon of the Septuagint. The books of Scripture found in the Septuagint, but not found in the Masoretic Text, are commonly called either the Deuterocanon or the anagignoskomena. While it is outside the scope of this article to perform an in-depth study of the canon of Scripture, a few points relevant to the Masoretic Text should be made here:…

Jesus celebrated Hanukkah, a feast which originates in the book of 1 Maccabees, and nowhere else in the Old Testament…

Ethiopian Jews preserved the ancient Jewish acceptance of the Septuagint, including much of its canon of Scripture. Sirach, Judith, Baruch, and Tobit are among the books included in the canon of the Ethiopian Jews…

Perhaps that is why Jesus and the apostles frequently quoted from the Septuagint, and accorded it full authority as the inspired Word of God…

Bible of John the Baptist Found! The Dead Sea Scrolls. Proof It Was John Not Essenes In Qumran

Published on Nov 29, 2017

Did a voice cry out in the wilderness once again in 1947? Are we looking at the Dead Sea Scrolls wrong? Many don’t even know that 38 of the current 39 books of the Protestant Old Testament bible were found with the Dead Sea Scrolls in part or even some whole books. If you are like us, you may have heard from pulpit that the Dead Sea Scrolls contained Gnostic Gospels but not 1 Gnostic Gospel was actually found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were found in Egypt in an Essene community. Wait, aren’t many scholars telling us that these same Essenes kept the library at Qumran? They did not. However, even the historical reference they use is being misused and misinterpreted which we will show in the next video. In this video, we will prove using the Bible and old maps, that John the Baptist lived in and even baptized Jesus in modern Qumran. Watch our video and see if you agree. If this is correct and we firmly believe it is, this changes everything we have been told about the Dead Sea Scrolls. Did John keep a scroll library which served as his ancient bible identifying an Old Testament canon of scripture? See what you think.

Neutral Perspective: Masturbation is “good” and “bad”?

10 Reasons To Make Masturbation Part Of Your Wellness Routine by Alexandra JamiesonMay 5, 2015 10:42 AM mindbodygreen.com
“..Through working with thousands of women as a health coach (in addition to my own personal experience), masturbation has been both an uncomfortable topic to talk about — while also being a powerful healing technique. It’s time to finally embrace it.

Masturbation has gotten a bad reputation, mainly because religion and culture tell us it’s a sin. The Bible doesn’t explicitly talk about masturbation, although there is some stern warning against “spilling your seed on the ground.” The Catholic Church decided that masturbation (sometimes referred to as “onanism” after Onin, a Biblical character) was a sin deserving of eternal damnation.

By the time World War I came around, onanism was being called “self-abuse” and described in medical texts as more dangerous to young boys than lying or stealing. Girls and women aren’t even mentioned, as if “the fairer sex” couldn’t even possibly do something so dirty.

So it stands to reason that most of us would feel some traces of shame, guilt, or even fear when practicing this very natural act. But take heart from the animal world and modern science! Dozens of mammal, bird, and insect species have been documented to masturbate in captivity and in the wild. From penguins, to dolphins, horses, and even porcupines, mother nature has no judgment when it comes to wrapping your hand, wing, or fin, around your own personal magic wand. ..”

WOMEN

Masturbation: Is It Wrong? Dr. Juli Slattery todayschristianwoman.com
Yes . . . and no. Guidelines for sorting out a complicated question.
“.. 1. What are you thinking about?

While masturbation itself isn’t immoral, the sexual fantasies that usually go with it may be. Most women only masturbate when they are thinking about or looking at something sexual. Sexual fantasies about someone you are not married to are, as Jesus stated, “adultery of the heart.”

“But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman [or man] with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)

If you are single, fantasizing even about some fictional sexy guy is promoting lustful thoughts. If you are married and fantasizing about another man, you are violating, in your mind and heart, your promise to give yourself sexually only to your husband. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with a married woman fantasizing about her own husband…

2. What is your motive?

The Bible makes it clear that God is very concerned about our motives. For example, giving money to your church might be a wonderful act of worship or an empty gesture, depending upon the attitude of your heart. The same can be true of masturbation.
….
3. Is it mastering you? (No pun intended.)

The apostle Paul taught that “nothing should master” us. In other words, we shouldn’t be controlled or addicted to anything…

4. Am I honoring God with my body?

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)….

Negative Effects of Masturbation
September 24, 2012 by Andrew Michell howtostopmasturbation.com
“…Picture
Does masturbation have negative effects? Scientists published this very revealing graph in the Archives of Sexual Behavior here. You can see that as masturbation increases the satisfaction with life decreases. The more a person masturbates the more dissatisfied a person may become. This leads to depression, unhappiness, lack of motivation, and other problems. (click to enlarge picture)

If masturbation is so healthy as so many claim then why are so many people here complaining of pain and negative effects from masturbating? Religion has nothing to do with it because even non religious people experience the same pains and negative side effects. Actually %100 of the data from this study came from Sweden, which is the most atheistic country* in the western world! The more often atheists masturbate the worse they feel. Some will reply “But masturbation is okay unless you are doing it 10 times a day.” Look at the graph. People who feel the worst masturbate only 10 times a month. ..”

What does the bible say about barren women who had to wait til late in life to have children? What is the lesson for us?

“Thank you for asking a question on http://www.thisisyourbible.com

In the Bible just 6 women are described specifically as ‘barren’.

By nature the women who were barren would have borne no children. Each had children by the direct intervention of God.

Barrenness in women and infertility in men are evils of this present world of sin and death brought about by Adam’s disobedience. Barrenness is not punishment on individuals, but like disease, accidents, famines, floods and earthquakes, just another evil that many have to endure.

The promise to Israel, had they kept the covenant made with God at Sinai, makes clear that God can and would intervene and ensure fertility of both people and livestock…

After Menopause, 52 Year Old Woman Delivers Her First Baby

“Published on Aug 11, 2013

http://www.africtoday.com

Mrs Kate Fezigha, a 52-year-old woman, has given birth to her first baby, which came after 19 years of her marriage.

Mrs Kate Fezigha got married in 1994.

For years, the new mother, who is a midwife at the General Hospital, Sagbama in Bayelsa State, has supervised the delivery of many children but she never had a child.

She got frustrated after her attempt to adopt a child from a Bayelsa-based orphanage home was scuttled, as she was duped by the coordinator of the home.

Her menstrual flow ceased sometime last year and Fezigha concluded that menopause had set in and her chances of having a child gone.

Afterwards, she started experiencing regular dizziness and pains in some parts of her body and went for a test and the scan showed she was pregnant.

Nine months after, she gave birth to a baby girl named Prudent on June 3, 2013.

Fezigha said at the dedication of the child and thanksgiving service, in Yenagoa that the conception and birth of the “miracle baby” was “the Lord’s doing and it is indeed marvellous”.

She said the pressure on her during her 19-year wait was unbearable, especially as the children she assisted their mothers to be delivered had become parents.

She said: “I was worried that all the children I had taken delivery of while on duty in the hospital were now parents.

“I reflected and declared to myself that in spite of the fact that no child had died in my hand during birth as a midwife, why shouldn’t I have mine?

“But a voice kept telling me to redouble my effort and I shall be blessed.

“But the mysterious voice started reducing in my head as I was fast losing hope. I decided to adopt a baby from an orphanage and I was swindled.

“At this stage, I ignored the voice and handed the matter over to God. And now I am a happy mother.”

It emerged that it was a mysterious sickness that led her into going for a scan that revealed a fibroid or cyst.

Another scan revealed that she was pregnant.

“I had mixed feelings after the second scan. I even told my husband that it’s false pregnancy.

“When my husband asked me what that meant, I became his lecturer, telling him what it meant and saw the expectation of a pregnancy in his eyes.

“A few months later, I started seeing some changes in my body. Throughout this period, I could not go to work and had to be hospitalised twice before I was delivered of the baby.

“Those who knew me could not believe it and screamed when they saw my protruding stomach. They screamed and shouted praise the Lord.”

Basking in the euphoria of her new bundle of joy, Fezigha said that her family is full of praises to God.

“All the period of waiting was not easy, but I am comforted by the word of God. Women who are hoping to have children should put their trust in God.””

Assistance in knowing how old is too old has now been provided by a Romanian woman named Adriana Iliescu. The 66-year-old unmarried professor and writer gave birth by emergency Caesarean section to a baby girl on Jan. 17 at the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest. She is now the oldest woman in the world ever to give birth. Her doctor, when asked why he would use reproductive technology to permit a 66-year-old woman to become pregnant, said he helped her because that is what she wanted to do, and because he was impressed with her faith in God and with her “determination.”…

Deep Thought: Are all “sins” equal?

Are all sins equal to God? Is all sin the same? gotquestions.org
“..So, although Jesus said that lust and adultery are both sins, that does not mean they are equal. It is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate a person, even though they are both sins in God’s sight. There are degrees to sin. Some sins are worse than others. At the same time, in regard to both eternal consequences and salvation, all sins are the same. Every sin will lead to eternal condemnation (Romans 6:23). All sin, no matter how “small,” is against an infinite and eternal God, and is therefore worthy of an infinite and eternal penalty. Further, there is no sin too “big” that God cannot forgive it. Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin (1 John 2:2). Jesus died for all of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Are all sins equal to God? Yes and no. In severity? No. In penalty? Yes. In forgivability? Yes.

All Sins Are Not Equal J.I. Packer/ DECEMBER 28, 2004 christianitytoday.com

… Ezekiel in his horrific allegory says that after Oholah (Samaria) had ruined herself by unfaithfulness to God, Oholibah (Jerusalem) “became more corrupt … in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister” (Ezek. 23:11, ESV). John distinguishes sins that do and do not inevitably lead to death (1 John 5:16), picking up Jesus’ warning about the unforgivable sin (Mk. 3:28-30).

Yes, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, is any sin that a person clings to by continually resisting the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. Keep in mind that there is not one specific sin that is unforgivable, such as lying, stealing or murder, but rather a perpetual hardening of the heart and willfully sinning against God and man (1 Timothy 4:2; Titus 1:15). In Acts 7:51, Stephen says the following to the Pharisees, “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! Lead to “death”?

What is the sin that leads to death, or the sin unto death, that John talks about? compellingtruth.org
“..Many interpretations exist regarding this “sin that leads to death.” Unfortunately, the text is not clear what this “sin” is. In 1 Corinthians 11:30, Paul wrote concerning wrongful practice of the Lord’s Supper, “That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.”
