A timeline of Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest and the athletes who joined him By Mark Sandritter Updated Sep 25, 2017, 10:28am EDT sbnation.com
“…Initially, Kaepernick was alone in his protest. And unnoticed. His protest didn’t come to light and gain national attention until the third preseason game. Since then, he’s continued on with his protest while being joined by several other NFL players, other professional, college and high school athletes.

Here is a complete timeline of Kaepernick’s protest and the other athletes who has followed suit.
Aug. 14 and Aug. 20 — Kaepernick goes unnoticed while sitting during the anthem

Kaepernick made headlines when he sat during the 49ers third preseason game, but he also sat during the first two games, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Kaepernick wasn’t in uniform and didn’t play during the first two games…”

Eric Reid: Why Colin Kaepernick and I Decided to Take a Knee By Eric Reid Sept. 25, 2017 nytimes.com
“In early 2016, I began paying attention to reports about the incredible number of unarmed black people being killed by the police. The posts on social media deeply disturbed me, but one in particular brought me to tears: the killing of Alton Sterling in my hometown Baton Rouge, La. This could have happened to any of my family members who still live in the area. I felt furious, hurt and hopeless. I wanted to do something, but didn’t know what or how to do it. All I knew for sure is that I wanted it to be as respectful as possible.

A few weeks later, during preseason, my teammate Colin Kaepernick chose to sit on the bench during the national anthem to protest police brutality. To be honest, I didn’t notice at the time, and neither did the news media. It wasn’t until after our third preseason game on Aug. 26, 2016, that his protest gained national attention, and the backlash against him began…”

“..”This stand wasn’t for me. This is because I’m seeing things happen to people that don’t have a voice, people that don’t have a platform to talk and have their voices heard, and effect change. So I’m in the position where I can do that and I’m going to do that for people that can’t.”

His decision to sit during the national anthem drew criticism, though. Many felt and still feel it was disrespectful to the United States, its flag, and its military.

“I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country,” Kaepernick said. “I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country. And they fight for freedom, they fight for the people, they fight for liberty and justice, for everyone. That’s not happening.

“People are dying in vain because this country isn’t holding their end of the bargain up, as far as giving freedom and justice, liberty to everybody. That’s something that’s not happening. I’ve seen videos, I’ve seen circumstances where men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly by the country they fought have for, and have been murdered by the country they fought for, on our land. That’s not right.”..”

“..In an interview with the website that published Thursday, Moss said more than 20 NBA and NFL athletes have reached out privately to thank or applaud him after he wore a tie that listed the names of a dozen black men and women who have been killed by police. But Moss also said he’s gotten “probably 150 to 200 messages” that amounted to hate mail.

“The black community praised me and thanked me for shedding light on African-Americans dying,” Moss told The Undefeated. “Then on the flip side, you’ve got sites where people are slamming me, saying, ‘Hey, (racial epithet), stay in your place.’

“All of this hate mail I’m getting for wearing a tie and talking about the truth. But I can handle it because I’ve been dealing with racism my whole life.”..”

Leilani, now 14, has sat out the Pledge of Allegiance since the second grade.
“Most of my teachers, they respected my decision and my right and belief. So they never said anything about it,” she told CNN during a phone interview Friday. “I think the pledge is a lie to me and it’s a lie to my people.”

Leilani and her family are part of the Elem Indian Colony — a Native American tribe in Northern California, where she attends Lower Lake High School as a freshman. …

Thomas was to join the North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline when Leilani told him about the situation with the pledge and her grades. He decided to stay and stand by his daughter instead.
But even 1,500 miles away from North Dakota, Leilani says she will find a way to make her voice heard in support of Standing Rock.
“As they say ‘justice for all’– we think that is a lie. What they did to my people not long ago? And not so long ago. They still do it today for example with Standing Rock in North Dakota. I want people to realize what has happened and is still happening to the native people to this day. I have my rights to do so,” she said. ..”

Republican official who called black NFL players ‘baboons’ on Facebook resigns Tom Barnes,The Independent Mon, Sep 3 10:54 AM CDT yahoo.com
“..A Republican official in Pennsylvania has resigned after it emerged she called black NFL players protesting the national anthem “baboons” in a Facebook rant.

Carla Malony, who was secretary of the GOP’s Beaver County branch, apologised for the series of posts she made on the social network last year.

Although it is unclear exactly when the comments were made, they appeared to be in reaction to players kneeling in protest as the national anthem played before NFL games.

In one post, Ms Malony described American footballers taking part in the gesture to protest cases of police brutality in the US as “over paid ignorant blacks”, suggesting they should “go to Africa”.

When another Facebook user commented: “Go Steelers,” in reference to the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL franchise, the GOP activist launched into another racially-charged tirade.

“Steelers are now just as bad as the rest of the over paid baboons. You respect your flag, country and our national atnthem (sic),” she wrote.

“Stop watching, or going to a game and paying for over priced food, water and tickets. Lets see how the baboons get paid when white people stop paying their salaries.”

The Beaver County Republican Committee said in a statement that it had accepted Ms Maloney’s resignations from both of her roles in the party and denounced her comments.

“The views expressed in her posts are abhorrent and have no place in reasonable public discourse,” the committee said.

The NFL national anthem protests first began in 2016, when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a knee to highlight police violence against minority groups and racial inequalities in America.

Since then, hundreds of players have refused to observe the anthem at American football games and in a variety of other US sports.

The protests have drawn the ire of president Donald Trump, who last year called on NFL franchise owners to fire players who refused to stand during the national anthem.

From the beginning of the 2018 NFL season, due to start on Thursday, players will be required by league rules to observe the anthem on the field or stay in the dressing room.

In her resignation statement, Ms Malony apologised for her remarks about the protests, which she said had been “in poor taste.”

“I apologise for my distasteful, inappropriate and insensitive social media posts,” she added.

“Those that know me know that I come from a diverse family that represents modern America.

“I know my posts and comments were disrespectful to not only the people that I love, but families across the country.

“I know I am a better person than this and, as I step away from these public positions, I will work to show everyone who I truly am.”..”

The Right To Refuse Service? Businesses and Discrimination Louis Marlin — February 4, 2014 business2community.com
“..Restaurants and stores qualify as “public accommodations” even if they’re a private business. As such, discrimination laws apply just as much on private property and to private businesses as they do in any public place.

Whether you post a sign or not, businesses never have the right to refuse or turn away customers because of their race, gender, age, nationality or religion. In addition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, several states have their own civil rights legislation designed to prevent discrimination. The Americans with Disabilities Act also prohibits discrimination in public accommodations, making it illegal to refuse service to individuals who are disabled or handicapped…

..there are some valid reasons for asking customers to leave. Individuals or groups who are causing trouble or being disruptive may be asked to leave, while restaurants or other businesses with a capacity limit can turn away customers to prevent this limit from being exceeded. Businesses can also refuse service to those who come in just before closing time or to those who are not making any purchases during their visit. There are various other examples – the key thing to note is that in each example, the decision to refuse service is not arbitrary or based upon an individual’s specific characteristics. Declining to serve someone has to be reasonable and justifiable. If customers are not properly dressed, you can ask that they leave, but if a person is wearing reasonable religious apparel and you dislike their beliefs, you can’t use that as an excuse to send them on their way. That’s why the First Amendment to our US Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” In America, the citizen has the freedom of religion; the state can’t institute an atmosphere of freedom from religion.

And so I find it rather interesting that in Kentucky, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis found herself spending last night in jail for her religious belief. And spare me comparisons to segregation. Blacks were granted rights by way of the 13th-15th Amendments, and it was the Democrat party who sought to deny them.

Bringing a different treat in Halloween

For the 4th year in a row, I put Bible verses in the the treats I handed out during Halloween this year. I started doing this after giving some thought and prayer about what I can do to be a “light” during this uneventful day as a Christian. I grew-up “ignorantly” knowing the truth behind this “pagan day” until I found the Truth. I didn’t want to just stay in my house with the lights off until all the trick or treaters finished going house to house. I found this idea via online when I was “searching” online what Christians can do during this time of the year.

First I started with candy 4 years ago (would invite friends over for a movie, food, and fellowship or get-together), but switched to juice bottles the last two years (Last year, a friend from another country loved handing out these juice bottles to the visitors at the door. It was a first time experience doing an activity like this as he never did this back at home.). As a “victim” (cavaties that led to high dental bills) of sweets growing-up, I wanted to make sure the kids-youth that came to my door won’t go through the same challenges I did. I don’t want to be responsible in contributing to their health problems (e.g. diabetes, obesity, or any future addictions), like I almost similarly faced when I got older.

This year was probably the biggest number of visitors at my door as I had a record number of 22! The weather wasn’t as warm as last year, but it was probably warmer than it has been for this past week/season. I had a lot of positive feedback of the juice bottles I gave since it was different from the popular sweet candies.

Most of the kids-teens that came by were people I knew from community relationships (e.g. church, work, etc…). The parents would comment later that their kid(s) appreciated the alternative juice treats instead of candy as I explained to them my reason for an alternative health choice.

One group (teenagers) that I won’t forget from this memorable year was when one of them asked me if I was religious after he read the Bible verse taped in the juice bottle I handed to him. I was first intrigued that he recognized it as a Bible verse and then I told him that “religious” is not my definition. Instead I told him it was more that it’s a personal relationship with Jesus. His friend that was close by then boldly stated, “I’m that too”! I smiled and then saw a parent with a kid behind them, which I then replied “awesome” (slowly grew quieter and held back from “preaching”..lol).

Other notes about this year’s event was a “friend” from another local church remembered me giving these Bible verse treats the past two years. She asked if I can print these for her as she wanted to do something similar this year. I have yet to ask her how it went, but I will try to update this when I do talk to her. Also, in our community (Morris, Minnesota), the local schools (college and high school) did a community fundraiser this same evening. The college (as has in the past) collected cans for the local food shelf, which I did my part in donating when a college student came over.

UMM students to Trick or Can for food shelf

“MORRIS — Students from the University of Minnesota, Morris will be going door-to-door in the Morris community collecting donations for the Stevens County Food Shelf on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Donations can also be left outside if they are clearly marked for Trick or Can.

While the Stevens County Food Shelf is requesting donations of money or personal hygiene products (soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant), nonperishable food items are also welcome. These include canned goods as well as jello/pudding mixes, crackers, popcorn, coffee, and cocoa. Please make checks payable to Stevens County Food Shelf.

Since 1991, the Stevens County Food Shelf has been a reliable source of help to the Morris community, providing hygiene products and nonperishable food items to low-income households in the area. The Food Shelf serves an average of 100 households, or 300 individuals, each month.

For more information, contact the University of Minnesota, Morris Office of Community Engagement at 320-589-6276.

Unfortunately, no high school student came over, which they were asking for donations to a UNICEF program.

Please keep the kidsyouth in your thoughts and prayers (e.g. Lord’s protection from daily temptations, dangers-bullying, etc..) throughout the rest of the school season.

I would love to hear any feedback on what do you think about this as I’m looking forward to what I can do “better” next year. Till then, may you keep seeking Him throughout the season(s).

Matt Chandler Explains Why the New Testament Suggests It’s OK to Celebrate Halloween OCTOBER 26, 2018 relevantmagazine.com
“..But, in this clip, Chandler says that while it’s OK to choose not to celebrate Halloween, one story in the New Testament seems to suggest that’s fine too (as long as you’re aren’t being overly scary, demonic or sensual).

He points to 1 Corinthians 8, where Paul discusses whether it’s OK to eat meat that was sacrificed to idols. Ultimately, he says there’s nothing wrong with it, though he adds, “Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.”..”

The haunting truth: The beliefs and practices of Wiccans don’t live up (or down) to the legends
‘…The Wiccan Church of Minnesota held its autumn celebration, Samhain (“sow-enn”), on Saturday night. And as with Day of the Dead rites in Mexico or All Souls’ Day practices throughout Europe at this time of year, Samhain is, in the words of local Wiccan John Stitely, “a reverential communion with our ancestors and with our friends and loved ones who are still hanging around.”

HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN

When looking at the world today, it’s very obvious to understand why the Father commanded us not to be of this world. When we look at many of the practices, holidays, and rituals that we participate in, the reasons we should not be of this world become so clear. The celebration of Halloween is something that truly emphasizes this point. There has always been an agenda to blur the lines between good and evil. Also an agenda to initiate the world into the occult and to accept the things of Lucifer. After you understand more about Halloween you will clearly see that this agenda is truly in the end stages. Don’t celebrate this wicked day!

I WAS ABUSED IN A SATANIC HALLOWEEN RITUAL
POSTED BY – THE OTHER SIDE OF DARKNESS ON – OCTOBER 21, 2019 23 COMMENTS theothersideofdarkness.com
“..I remember last year speaking to a woman who was a satanic ritual abuse survivor and being so worried for her as she told me how difficult October is for her every year. I couldn’t quite understand why, but I knew that the increase of witchcraft activity must have a part to play in it. I learned more about the Satanic aspect of Halloween and the sacrificial murders that happen on this night. Yet it still seemed so far away from my own reality.

Ex-Devil Worshipper Says: I’m Shocked Christians Celebrate Halloween 22 October, 2018 – 18:56 ancient origins ancient-origins.net
“…Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, said: “I am glad that Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year. Welcome to Halloween.”

We are quick on our feet to rush and honor the devil in so many ways. We see no harm in Halloween, because we think it is fun. We paint our faces, we wear our innocent costumes, we dress up our doorways—even churches dress up their entryways for Halloween with pumpkins. These actions are like giving the devil license, saying, “Here’s my church. You can have it.”

We think because we are not performing any demonic rituals or human sacrifices that we are on safe ground, but did you know that as soon as you dress up, whether you color yourself or put on a costume, the enemy owns you? Because by doing so, you have turned over your legal rights, and you have dedicated yourself and your kids to celebrating the devil’s holiday . You have just made a pact with the enemy, and you are already sacrificing your children spiritually by dressing them up and changing their identity. ..

Some churches remove the word “Halloween” and call it “harvest” instead, with members dressing up in costumes, giving out candy and bobbing for apples. It saddens my heart. Turning away from this “holiday” is not missing out on anything, so let us get that off our minds. …”

Halloween and Christianity
Posted by – The Other Side of Darkness On – October 7, 2019 46 Comments theothersideofdarkness.com

“..Of course celebrating Halloween doesn’t have to be about ghouls and scary things. You can decorate for fall and dress in innocent costumes such as princesses and super heroes. It makes for good wholesome fun. So just take out the evil and you have changed a night of evil into something perfectly good. Right? Wrong. I am so sorry to say that you cannot take Halloween and make it good, wholesome, or innocent, no matter what changes you try to make of it. Halloween from it’s very origins is evil, and it still is today.

During my first year as a Christian I was quickly convicted to stop celebrating Halloween. It was very easy for me to give it up, knowing what the true meaning of the day is. I did not actually know that it was also an important day to Satanists as well, because as a witch you sincerely don’t associate yourself with evil. It didn’t take much research to see that Satanists use Halloween as one of their special days to sacrifice human lives. And I naturally assumed that other Christians would not celebrate Halloween either. I mean, it is obviously evil. Just take a stroll through your neighborhood on a cool October night to see how many houses are decorated with skulls, bats, witches, etc. and you will see how the rest of the world views Halloween. So you can understand how I was utterly shocked to find out that just about every single Christian I knew actually celebrated Halloween…

I spent that Halloween and the next sharing my story with other Christians as much as I could. I tried to plead with Christians to get them to understand that Halloween does not glorify Jesus and celebrating it actually invites the demonic into your life. It is pretty difficult to convince someone that a day to party and have fun could possibly be bad – unless of course you were once a witch. Then it makes perfect sense for someone like me to not celebrate it. It absolutely breaks my heart. Yet we live in a fallen world, where temptation runs rampant, and the church has catered to the masses by giving us the message of what we want to hear…

I have heard every argument for Christians celebrating Halloween. I have thought and prayed about them all. I continuously come to the same conclusion every single time. Halloween is evil, and it is not for Christians. It is a season of fear and death and cannot be redeemed. Can God be glorified by it? Absolutely yes. By every Christian who stands up and decides not to participate in it. By shining a light into this dark and evil time with the love of Christ. Does that mean I advocate hiding away or turning against anyone who celebrates it? Absolutely not. Every single person in this world deserves to know Jesus Christ. He loves every one of us, no matter what. And we have so many thousands of ways to go out and spread the Good News to the world. It does not have to be done by fall festivals and Christians tracts…
