What is Human Trafficking
“Published on Dec 12, 2016
In a small town, people are dreaming: a man dreams of buying a house; a woman dreams of travelling; and an adolescent dreams of attending university. As each story plays out, we watch the devastating, step-by-step process of human traffickers taking advantage of these dreams. This five-minute animated video illustrates how human trafficking doesn’t happen all at once, but rather is a process of three elements: Act, Means and Purpose.”
25 Painfully Disturbing Facts About Human Trafficking
“Published on Jun 4, 2014
Did you know that there are more slaves today than ever before in history? These are 25 painfully disturbing facts about human trafficking.
Check out the text version too! – http://list25.com/25-painfully-distur…
Here’s a preview:
The average cost of a slave in 2013 was between $90 and $100
In most regions, 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation
The remaining 20% is generally for labor exploitation
The number of slaves on Earth today is estimated between 20 and 30 million
Nearly 1 million of them are moved across an international border every year on the black market
70% of those slaves are female
50% are children
Behind drugs and weapons, human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry in the world
It generates approximately $33 billion ever year
Over half of that comes from industrialized countries
Even for purposes of labor exploitation, women still constitute over half of Earth’s enslaved population
Organ harvesting is another seldom mentioned but quickly growing industry that benefits from human trafficking
An estimated 30,000 victims of sex trafficking die each year from abuse, disease, torture, and neglect
Eighty percent of those sold into sexual slavery are under 24, and some are as young as six years old
Ludwig “Tarzan” Fainberg, a convicted trafficker, said, “You can buy a woman for $10,000 and make your money back in a week if she is pretty and young. Then everything else is profit
A 2003 study in the Netherlands found that, on average, a single sex slave earned her pimp at least $250,000 a year
A human trafficker can earn 20 times what he or she paid for a girl. Provided the girl was not physically brutalized to the point of ruining her beauty, the pimp could sell her again for a greater price because he had trained her and broken her spirit, which saves future buyers the hassle
The end of the Cold War has resulted in the growth of regional conflicts and the decline of borders. Many rebel groups turn to human trafficking to fund military actions and garner soldiers.
According to a 2009 Washington Times article, the Taliban buys children as young as seven years old to act as suicide bombers.
The price for child suicide bombers is between $7,000-$14,000
UNICEF estimates that 300,000 children younger than 18 are currently trafficked to serve in armed conflicts worldwide
Babies are sold on the black market, where the profit is divided between the traffickers, doctors, lawyers, border officials, and others.
Researchers argue that as the economic crisis deepens, the number of people trafficked for forced labor will increase.
Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises because it holds relatively low risk with high profit potential. Criminal organizations are increasingly attracted to human trafficking because, unlike drugs, humans can be sold repeatedly
There are more slaves in the world today than ever before in history..”

“…According to a 2012 International Labour Organization Report, 21 million people are victims of forced labour. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for the largest number of forced labourers in the world with 11.7 million victims (56 percent of the global total), followed by Africa with 3.7 million (18 percent) and Latin America with 1.8 million victims (nine percent).
According to the Huffington Post, approximately 75 to 80 percent of human trafficking and slavery is for sex. The rest are forced into economic labour exploitation, such as agriculture and construction work. In 2015, 5,544 cases of human trafficking were reported, as stated in a study by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center.
Human trafficking can be separated into sex trafficking and labour trafficking. Though they have different purposes, there are general trends that explain the overall root causes of human trafficking.

Add your name to support the CASE Act against human trafficking and online predators: http://www.caseact.org/
In California, many vulnerable women and young girls are held against their will and forced to sell their bodies. The victims are often girls as young as 12 who are sexually exploited for the financial gain of human traffickers. They are afraid for their lives and abused — sexually, physically, and mentally.
Human trafficking is said to be one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises in the world — and it is taking place right here in our own backyard. Three cities in California — San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego — are recognized by the FBI as high intensity child sex trafficking areas. In addition, a recent national study by a victims’ rights group gave California an “F” grade for its weak laws dealing with child sex trafficking.
The CASE Act, a partnership of California Against Slavery and the Safer California Foundation, will protect children in California by: Increasing prison terms for human traffickers. Requiring convicted sex traffickers to register as sex offenders. Requiring all registered sex offenders to disclose their internet accounts. Requiring criminal fines from convicted human traffickers to pay for services to help victims.
The CASE Act has also been endorsed by organizations representing over 90,000 rank and file California Peace Officers, advocates for the protection of children, including Marc Klaas and the KlaasKids Foundation, and victims who survived sexual exploitation when they were children…”

There is a correct order to show your children the Star Wars movies October 24, 2014 theweek.com
“…Let’s say you grew up watching the Star Wars trilogy, then had children sometime after 1999, when George Lucas started releasing the prequels.
When your kids are old enough, what order should they watch the films in? The order they were released — Star Wars (A New Hope) (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983), then The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002), and Revenge of the Sith (2005)? Or the order the events happened in the Star Wars universe: Phantom Menace (I), Attack of the Clones (II), Revenge of the Sith (III), New Hope (IV), Empire Strikes Back (V), and Return of the Jedi (VI)?
Rod Hilton, a computer programmer in Colorado, has given this a lot of thought, and he probably has the best solution. His (correct) instinct is to start with New Hope (IV), because if you start with Phantom Menace (I) you lose the essential shock of learning Luke’s parentage in Empire Strikes Back. But he also wants to end on a high note — so, none of the prequels. Here’s Hilton’s “Machete Order,” named after his blog, Absolutely No Machete Juggling:
Next time you want to introduce someone to Star Wars for the first time, watch the films with them in this order: IV, V, II, III, VI…”

It’s Never Too Late for Redemption
“At the very end of The Return of the Jedi, just when it seems that all hope is lost, something incredible happens. Darth Vader, the longstanding antagonist of the series, sacrifices himself to save his son and defeat the emperor. Vader had believed he was too far gone to ever find redemption. He had done so many terrible things, betrayed so many people. How could he ever be forgiven?
Luke, on the other hand (no pun intended), never lost faith in Vader. In fact, he believed so strongly he was willing to pay the ultimate price for his forgiveness. There are many people like Vadar who look back on their mistakes and think it’s too late, but they are wrong. I doesn’t matter how far we’ve strayed or how mangled we’ve become, Jesus gave his life so that we could be forgiven (John 3:16). God doesn’t need to save you, He already has…”

Rogue One review: this is the first Star Wars movie to acknowledge the whole franchise is about war Updated by Todd VanDerWerff@tvoti Dec 16, 2016, 11:14am EST vox.com
It’s often incoherent and messy. But it’s also beautiful and has a strong central theme.
“..But if the film is politically relevant, it’s only accidentally so, not intentionally. I say that not just because Rogue One was completed long before Donald Trump’s election or even Brexit, but because Edwards uses a kind of scattershot approach to political content in his films — he’ll give you just enough of an idea of what he’s going for, but he’s uninterested in pushing any further than that.
An early shot in Rogue One features Stormtroopers patrolling the streets of a city rife with tension between various factions, rolling around in a tank. At various moments, it calls to mind the US occupation of Iraq and police militarization of American cities. But it’s not entirely clear whether Edwards has thought about what these similarities might mean in the larger tapestry of Rogue One beyond “Do you get this reference?” It’s political commentary as Family Guy joke…”

Forgiveness Won’t Fix Your Toxic Relationship
We are always called to forgive; but forgiveness should not be seen as a remedy to another’s character
“…Before we go any further, we must acknowledge that men can also be the victims of emotional abuse—but the statistics are difficult to interpret because men are even less likely than women to report emotional abuse.
We are always called to forgive; but forgiveness should not be seen as a remedy to another’s character, rather a soothing balm to protect our own hearts from bitterness.
But we see sisters and brothers letting destructive people into their lives, laboring under the fundamental misunderstanding that forgiveness equals being a doormat. It’s common as Christians to put ourselves in harm’s way, stay in abusive relationships and fail to set healthy boundaries—all under the banner of “forgiveness.” I know from experience.
Forgiveness and reconciliation are very different, yet often confused, perhaps because of the widespread teaching that God forgives us and doesn’t remember our sins. Are we to follow in His steps when we continue in toxic, abusive relationships?…

Detroit Man Wrongly Convicted of Murders When He Was 15 Freed After Serving 9 Years

” The murder convictions for Davontae Sanford, now 23, have been vacated by Judge Brian Sullivan, and all charges dropped against him, Maria Miller, an assistant prosecuting attorney at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, told ABC News today.
Sanford was serving a 37-to-90-year sentence for a quadruple homicide he was convicted of in 2008, his attorneys said. Sanford was 14 years old when he pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree homicide at the advice of a now-suspended attorney.
Heidi A. Naasko, a pro bono attorney for Sanford, told ABC News today that a hit man, Vincent Smothers, confessed to 12 murders two weeks after Sanford was sentenced in 2008. ..

The 20-year-old from Dayton, Ohio – who was convicted of three felonies, including assault with intent to rape – faced a maximum of 14 years in prison.
But Turner was expected to spend only three months of a six-month sentence in county jail after the judge, Aaron Persky, said positive character references and lack of a criminal record had persuaded him to be more lenient. Prison would have a “severe impact on him”, the judge said…”

Managing the Challenges of Sex Offender Reentry
February 2007 csom.org
Incarceration, Release, and Reincarceration Trends with Sex Offenders
Of the roughly 1.5 million individuals incarcerated in state and federal prisons throughout the United States, it is estimated that approximately 150,000 are imprisoned for a sex offense conviction – 40% for rape, and 60% for other sexual assaults such as lewd acts with children, fondling, molestation, statutory rape, indecent practices, and other related offenses (Harrison & Beck, 2006). Recognizing the variations from state to state, convicted sex offenders represent between 10 and 30 percent of prison populations (see, e.g., Bynum, Huebner, & Burgess-Proctor, 2002; Greenfeld, 1997; Harrison & Beck, 2006)…..
In terms of “staying out,” a recent national study revealed that nearly half of released sex offenders (43%)
were rearrested for at least one new crime – and well over one-third were returned to prison – within three years (Langanet al., 2003).
Returns to prisons were generally not, however, because of new sex crimes. In fact, only 5.1% of the released
sex offenders were rearrested for another sex offense during that period of time, and only 3.5% were reconvicted of another sex crime. The clear majority of sex offenders (71%) were returned to prison for
technical violations of release conditions or were rearrested, and the remaining reincarcerations (23.9%) were the result of new sentences for additional crimes. …

Housing and Placement – Center for Sex Offender … from csom.org
“…A particularly promising example of managing sex offender housing challenges involves inviting housing representatives to participate proactively in the transition planning process as members of multi–disciplinary teams. The benefits of such an approach are numerous, including the following (Cowan et al., 1999):
Housing officials are more willing to make homes available to reentering sex offenders;
Specific attempts are made to minimize negative sentiment and unnecessary fears among local tenants;
Supervision agencies and law enforcement officials make commitments to provide ongoing support and increased monitoring in those areas where sex offenders are housed after release; and
Greater confidence is instilled with respect to the sex offender management practices in place in the community.
Phoenix ministry among few places helping sex offenders start anew By Michelle Ye Hee Lee The Republic | azcentral.com Wed Dec 5, 2012 12:59 AM azcentral.com
“…Redeemed Outreach is one of a handful of faith-based organizations in Phoenix where convicted sex offenders can go upon release from prison. The ministry is one model that local and national experts say could help solve the problem of how to successfully reintegrate sex offenders into society without losing track of them on the streets or encouraging recidivism.
Moriarty’s ministry is a little of everything: halfway house, rehabilitation center, workforce-training program, religious refuge.
Here, a resident is not judged for his crime, beaten up, or labeled an “S.O.” (shorthand for sex offender). Instead, all receive shelter, clothing, food, camaraderie and a chance to try to turn their lives around. Anyone is welcome, regardless of criminal history.
It is a no-nonsense place. The pastors run a disciplined program designed to help newly released sex offenders, many under state or county supervision, structure their daily routines and lead faithful lives. “Amen” and “God bless” are part of the everyday vernacular.
Everyone must follow the rules. No drugs, alcohol, smoking, profanity, stealing, fighting, threats or porn allowed. Phone access and TV watching is limited. Everyone must attend and be on time for church services, Bible studies and meals. Music must have Christian lyrics and is played only after 4 p.m. and through earphones.
The eight-month “discipleship” program has three phases that, if successful, help inmates rebuild personal relationships, find spirituality and rejoin society.
At first, outside contacts are restricted as the participants immerse themselves in Bible studies and personal introspection and improvement, including substance-abuse and anger-management counseling. Next, they get job training and help finding work. Room, personal-hygiene items, food, bedding and counseling are free.
Once participants find employment, they must donate one-third of their earnings to the ministry. The goal is to transition into their own housing, after which they are encouraged to continue helping others like themselves.
Redeemed Outreach offers offenders fresh out of prison help in navigating the world outside the walls. There is plenty to take care of, whether registering with various agencies to comply with the law or relearning the basics of life on the outside. Even elementary tasks can seem daunting to those who went to prison up to two decades ago, before the arrival of things like smartphones.
Participants hear about Redeemed Outreach through other prisoners, a prison chaplain or ministry pastors who preach in the prison yard. Arthur Diaz, for example, heard about the ministry in prison. He is a Level 3 sex offender, convicted of attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and failure to register.
Diaz, now trying to live a drug-free life, recalled how he first landed at one of the ministry’s properties. He’d borrowed enough money to buy a one-way, light-rail ride there. He was parched as he came down from a methamphetamine high.
“I got to the church and I told them I was thirsty. They gave me water, they gave me food,” Diaz said. “Since I’m here, I don’t have to worry about where to sleep, what to eat.”
The living situation is modest. Many sleep in bunk beds. All share a kitchen. But to those who would otherwise sleep on the streets, Redeemed Outreach is a safe haven.
“We should look at them as being human beings first,” said Autumn Freeman, a Maricopa County probation officer who has clients living at Redeemed Outreach.
Freeman often faces difficulties helping sex offenders on probation find housing because crime-free housing laws limit how many offenders a landlord can rent to at one location. One of Freeman’s clients was registered to a Phoenix bus stop.

I (Sal) personally can relate to all these stories above as I grew-up with an “identity issue” (see racism testimony) myself. I hated labels growing-up. I remember growing-up in elementary school, race was no matter or issue. I had friends of all multicultural backgrounds. Then in Middle School (6th grade), the identity slowly became an issue.
I remember in high school, I joined a “cultural” group called the “Asian Club”, which many friends from diverse Asian ethnic backgrounds invited me. There was one remark that really “stabbed” me in the heart…
“You don’t even look Asian enough…your eyes are big” (paraphrase)
This was just one example of many out there growing-up that got me to struggle with my “true identity”. I was like, how Asian do I have to look (e.g. squinty eyes) to be in this club? My full name is Spanish (Salvador Cruz Monteagudo). I then tried to “hang out” with Filipinos more, but struggled too because I didn’t even speak the “native” language of my parents. In college, I even was more “welcomed” by the “United Latinos”!
It wasn’t until college when I felt a real belonging and race wasn’t an issue. I became a Christian and realize I’m part of God’s big family! However, there is still challenges amongst the “Christian” community on this multicultural issue, but what is mentioned in the Bible keeps me rooted and strong in my personal faith (walk with my “Heavenly Father”!

“…To illustrate the basic genetic principles involved in determining skin shade, we’ll use a simplified explanation,26 with just two genes controlling the production of melanin. Let’s say that the A and B versions of the genes code for a lot of melanin, while the a and b versions code for a small amount of melanin.
If the father’s sperm carried the AB version and the mother’s ovum carried the AB, the child would be AABB, with a lot of melanin, and thus very dark skin. Should both parents carry the ab version, the child would be aabb, with very little melanin, and thus very light skin. If the father carries AB (very dark skin) and the mother carries ab (very light skin), the child will be AaBb, with a middle brown shade of skin. In fact, the majority of the world’s population has a middle brown skin shade.
A simple exercise with a Punnet Square shows that if each parent has a middle brown shade of skin (AaBb), the combinations that they could produce result in a wide variety of skin shades in just one generation. Based on the skin colors seen today, we can infer that Adam and Eve most likely would have had a middle brown skin color. Their children, and children’s children, could have ranged from very light to very dark.
No one really has red, or yellow, or black skin. We all have the same basic color, just different shades of it. We all share the same pigments—our bodies just have different combinations of them.27…”

Race and Ethnicity pluralism.org
“The United States in the twenty-first century is home to perhaps the most diverse and varied Christian population on earth, with Christians of European, African, Asian, and Latin American birth or descent. This great racial and ethnic diversity poses both challenges and opportunities for America’s Christians. For Christians, overcoming racism and changing the structures of injustice that support racial exclusion is central to the reconciling work of the church. With the new immigration, beginning in 1965, the racial and ethnic diversity of American Christians has become greater than ever, recasting and making more complex the already difficult issues of race and ethnicity…
Justice for African Americans also remains on the agenda of Christian churches. The civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s involved the work, the leadership, and the commitment of many Christians, most prominently the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspired by the deepest values of Christianity, they sharply criticized those institutional structures and practices which had supported a racially segregated society and, in many cases, a racially segregated church….
While many gains have been made, race is still a major issue for the churches. Some local churches are still, in effect, racially segregated along black and white lines. Others, however, have intentionally cultivated racially inclusive congregations and have expressed a commitment to racial justice in their life of worship and service. …

Transsexual Returns to Original Gender After Relationship With Christ
By Jeff Schapiro, Christian Post Reporter
January 11, 2012|4:43 pm
“….When he was only about five years old, Heyer’s grandmother began to dress him as if he were a girl and even made a dress just for him. The result was a very confused little boy. “I look at it today as being pretty abusive. While it seemed very benign at the time, and maybe even playful, I can see today…that it was really abusive to my psyche,” he told The Christian Post on Wednesday….
…Heyer’s uncle viewed the situation with his grandmother as a joke, and sexually molested him when he was still young.
..By his early teenage years, the fantasy had only grown. He adopted the female name Andrea West, and began cross dressing. At age 15, he also began learning about Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) and, although he struggled against his desire to be female, he says those feelings were like a radio playing in his head that he just couldn’t turn off….
“While I didn’t want to be going down this pathway I seemed to be on this track that I couldn’t interrupt, stop or change,” he recalled. “But I wasn’t homosexual. I was having dates with girls, I never felt any desire to have relationships with men, so from the standpoint of my sexuality I was always heterosexual.”
“That I think, too, is one of the…misleading factors. Most people consider transgenders to be homosexual and, from my experience…98 to 99 percent of the people who contact me are not homosexual…It’s really a gender identity issue, not a sexual preference issue.”…
..He and his wife split after 17 years of marriage, and he lost his job when he began making the physical transformation into becoming a woman. He got breast implants, began taking hormones, had electrolysis to reduce the hair on his face, and he had his genitals removed.
“You’re not born transgender, something happens in your childhood that causes you to not want to be who you are…And today the only thing that is…socially acceptable is calling yourself a transgender,” he said.
Not all his church experiences were bad, however. He found a church that welcomed him in, even with the knowledge of what his struggle was. The pastor of that church told him, “Our job is to love you and it’s God’s job to transform you.”
“The church, what it did for me was it allowed me to really get to the point where I asked the Lord for forgiveness. I began to pray for forgiveness. And I realized that the critical point is understanding that you can accept Jesus Christ, but there’s a point where that doesn’t become real…until you’re walking with Christ,” he said….

He disapproves of having relationships between two mans and between two woman. But it does not mean he does not love you or understands your difficulties! He offers his salvation to all and will guide you!
This movie is for educational purposes and testimony, I have not made this video. All credit goes to God for helping us and letting us give testimonies of his Glory, love and power.”

“…“My appearance became increasingly feminine as the months passed. Silicone injections added to my feminine good looks. But I was miserable inside.”
My story begins in a small Louisiana town on August 15, 1936, when I was born. My father was a river boat pilot and drank a lot. I was always afraid of him, as he would come home late at night, yelling and breaking things. I began to build a fantasy world all my own. I would dream about all the beautiful women in the movies Mother took me to see on weekends. I wanted to be a girl, but I was a boy.
Mother always worked. I used to go to her room when she was away and put on her dresses, earrings, lipstick and perfume. One day she came home early and caught me. “Don’t ever let me catch you doing this again!” she yelled. She whipped me, screaming, “You’re a boy, you’re a boy!” She ripped the earrings off and threw them on the dressing table. I ran from the house crying.
I was afraid to play with boys. They called me “sissy” and “Momma’s boy”. School was the worst time of all. The other boys didn’t want me around and called me ugly names. There were a few girls I could play with, but more and more, I played by myself, with my movie idols…
.. I decided that a sex-change operation was the answer to my feelings of dissatisfaction and phoned a plastic surgeon in New York. We set an appointment for the first stage of surgery —castration. I’ll never forget the antiseptic smell of the operating room. The surgery was done with local anesthetic, but even the drugs injected with 6-inch needles couldn’t kill the dreadful pain of the operation. It was the most dreadful experience of my life…
“Perry, I’m saved. I’ve got Jesus in my heart. I feel wonderful!” He witnessed to me every chance he got for the next year. Finally I agreed to go to church with him. Everything was strange to me, but I felt something I had never experienced in my life. These people really loved each other. I could feel it. .
I’m curious why “you” came to this particular blog. Please feel free to personally contact me or share below. Do you struggle with any sexual-gender identity? What’s your story? Can you related to any of the stories above?
