Good and bad on “meditation”?

Scientific Benefits of Meditation – 76 things you might be missing out on By Giovanni
“….These studies were based on different types of meditation, and I have included details, whenever relevant. Some effects, such as increased compassion and social bonding, are more salient as a result of specific meditation techniques (such as loving-kindness, which is a Buddhist meditation). However, my understanding and personal practice is that any kind of authentic meditation will include most of these benefits, in one degree or another. There is also evidence that the practice will be more beneficial for you if you find a technique that you like better…”

Former Trappist monk James Finley talks about the spiritual benefits of contemplative practice for Christians.
“…It’s not that prayer isn’t enough. God has made the human heart in such a way that only God will do. And the God-given longing for God is fulfilled in a oneness with God in which nothing short of that oneness is enough. There’s a kind of deep, sincere ache within the heart. It prays, and the prayer actually intensifies or deepens a longing for oneness with God beyond the words of the prayer and also beyond the emotions and the feelings that can come up in the consolations of prayer. Nothing is enough; only God is enough. And that’s the mystical quest really, that’s the contemplative theme…”
22 Benefits of Meditating on Scripture
March 13, 2015
“..21. Meditation promotes gratitude for all the blessings showered upon us by God through His Son…”

Sal: One of the practices I do when I meditate at night before going to bed is “reflecting” on all the “good”/positives (e.g. song “Count Your Blessings (instead of sheep)” from “White Christmas”) that happened to me today, which is my way to show how grateful I’m blessed by my Heavenly Father…see more!

What do you like to do to “keep positive”?

Meditating On The Word Of God Aired On 31 Jul 2015
“..but are we meditating on God’s Word? And do we even know what this means? When the Lord called Joshua to lead Israel after Moses’ death, He told him, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it” (Josh. 1:8). The Lord wanted to fill Joshua’s heart with the Word so he would know precisely what to do and how to lead the people according to God’s standards and commands. And that’s exactly what He wants to do in our lives as well. If we’ll meditate on Scripture, the Lord will unfold for us His truths and instructions. ..”

Sal: Last month or so, I was challenged by a close friend of mine to spend a quiet time with God for 2 hours at least once a week. I’ve done this 3 of the last 4 weeks so far and have seen the benefits. I’m slowly growing in this, so feel free to check my blogs for updates. 2 hours is really long for me, so what I did is just 1 hour without the computer and 1 hour with the computer writing my thoughts or doing “strictly” God stuff for the next hour.

Unfortunately, we all don’t have an hour or two due to our busy lives. When I get up some mornings and don’t have time. I try to read a verse (instead of a chapter) only in my Bible or even from my social network feeds (@goodnewseverybodycom in #instagram). The key thing is , try to memorize it (repeat it 3x a day). I would repeat (Galatians 5) “fruits of the spirit” daily before (while riding my bike or driving to work) going to work. Music is a great way to memorize, which I sing some particular Scriptures daily (e.g. #Lordsprayer) or a particular chorus line in a song from church (e.g. “Come & let your presence fill this..”) repeatedly in my mind or out loud in prayer.

What are some other ways? Feel free to share below…

The dangers of meditation — 10 things to look out for February 4, 2015 by Clare Hudson
“…Because meditation is so subjective there are no right answers when it comes to compiling a list of the dangers of meditation. Everyone, after all is different. Meditation might bring up trauma or unresolved issues from the past at which point you might need to see a therapist or the meditation teacher should be made aware before hand. Alternatively, you might jump into a practice too soon and feel overwhelmed or experience a disturbing kundalini energy awakening…”

Can Meditation Be Bad for You?
by Mary Garden • 22 August 2007
“… A man who had just come down from Kathmandu after completing a thirty-day Tibetan Buddhist meditation course killed himself. I had met him the night before, and we’d had coffee together. I don’t remember what we spoke about, but he was friendly and didn’t appear distressed. But the next day he climbed to the top of the multi-storied Blue Diamond Hotel and leapt off….”

Dr. Lorin Roche, a meditation teacher, says a major problem arises from the way meditators interpret Buddhist and Hindu teachings. He points out that meditation techniques that encourage detachment from the world were intended only for monks and nuns. He has spent thirty years doing interviews with people who meditate regularly and says many were depressed. He says they have tried to detach themselves from their desires, their loves, and their passion. “Depression is a natural result of loss, and if you internalize teachings that poison you against the world, then of course you will become depressed.”

The Dalai Lama has said that Eastern forms of meditation have to be handled carefully: “Westerners who proceed too quickly to deep meditation should learn more about Eastern traditions and get better training than they usually do. Otherwise, certain physical or mental difficulties appear.”..

Dangerous Truth Meditation Can Ruin Your Life and Cause Insanity

Dangerous Meditations By Douglas Groothuis/ November 1, 2004
What harm is there in achieving a higher state of consciousness through meditation?
“..The biblical worldview is completely at odds with the pantheistic concepts driving Eastern meditation. We are not one with an impersonal absolute being that is called “God.” Rather, we are estranged from the true personal God because of our “true moral guilt,” as Francis Schaeffer says.

No amount of chanting, breathing, visualizing, or physical contortions will melt away the sin that separates us from the Lord of the cosmos—however “peaceful” these practices may feel. Moreover, Paul warns that “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). “Pleasant” experiences may be portals to peril. Even yoga teachers warn that yoga may open one up to spiritual and physical maladies.

The answer to our plight is not found in some “higher level of consciousness” (really a deceptive state of mind), but in placing our faith in the unmatched achievements of Jesus Christ on our behalf. If it were possible to find enlightenment within, God would not have sent “his one and only Son” (John 3:16) to die on the Cross for our sins in order to give us new life and hope for eternity through Christ’s resurrection. We cannot raise ourselves from the dead.

The biblical concept of prayer assumes that rational and meaningful communication between God and humans is possible. There is no summons to suspend rational judgment even when prayer through the Holy Spirit is “with groans that words cannot express” (Rom. 8:26). Nor should we repeat words meaninglessly to induce a trance (Matt. 6:7)…”

Miracles: Stories of Visions of Jesus

Born with a hole in her heart, she saw Jesus before angels carried her home
June 10, 2014
“..After her second birthday, she had her first vision of Jesus. It happened in their family room, only a few weeks before her passing….
“Hey Jesus. Hi. Hi Jesus,” she said, to her mom’s surprise.

“What do you see, babe? Tamrah asked.

“Hi Jesus. Hi,” little Giselle continued, her eyes wide with delight.

“Where is He?

“Right there,” she pointed.

Giselle had at least two more visions of Jesus in the weeks before her graduation to heaven. One happened in the car while they were driving and another in a store.

One day in the car, Giselle began to spontaneously sing, “Rejoice! Rejoice! (E)mmanuel…” She had not learned to pronounce ‘E’s’ so it came out as ‘Manuel.’

“How does Giselle know that Christmas song?” sister Jolie Mae wanted to know….”

Woman Healed of Cerebral Palsy Through Vision
“…”You could just feel God’s love and His presence, and it came all around me, and it was really, really warm,” she continues. “God showed me in a vision that He was going to heal me. He showed me the inside of a church. The church had light-colored woodwork. The doorknob was a triangular glass-colored doorknob. And then the vision showed me in a rust-colored stretcher and people gathered around praying for me. There was a man in a pinstriped suit. Then God showed me a picture of myself out riding a bike on beautiful green grass, and it said ‘March 29th’ in just great big bold letters — that was three weeks away.” ..”

But with each step that she took, they started to straighten out. And as her toes and her knees straightened out, she got stronger and stronger. She took a few steps on her own, and then was literally running around the church.”

“Then she started into going on a little bit of a dogtrot around the church,” says Lucille. “Finally, she began praising the Lord and going around. And I tell you, you talk about the glory of the Lord — we just shouted. The presence of the Lord was so real.” …

Sal: Personal Oral (3:45 minute) Interview

Revelation 21 New International Version (NIV) A New Heaven and a New Earth

Last week (April 4th/5th 2016), a client (anonymous for confidentiality) at my workplace shared this story after she sporadically told me she was “healed” (medical condition is confidential, but trust me-I saw her in a really serious medical condition that I just laid my hands on her and prayed for her during this “severe” medical condition in front of my co-worker) and “saw” Jesus. I have to be honest, I was skeptical at first, but as she shared some specifics of her personal encounter with Jesus in Heaven. Her story confirmed many other stories I’ve heard (e.g. Victoria T. from my local church when she shared late last spring (see Sermon Download 04.19.2015 – Speaker: Spencer and Victoria Tiernan – [DOWNLOAD]) of 2015. I already have consent from her to share:

Personal Encounter with Jesus in Heaven and Healed!

“…He said it wasn’t my time to go yet… (Sal: “so you told me earlier that you saw your grandparents/relatives and they were younger lookin’?) never grow old in Heaven…(Sal: this happened last Friday)..Yup..this was a real miracle for me. God is watching over me (Sal..healed from your “medical condition”)..and that I was walking, running, playing, etc.. with the dogs and cats…(Sal: you were walking..this is an encouragement for people in wheelchairs too)…that I was a miracle I was in Heaven and not in wheelchair…and saw ____(name of our friend is confidential)____ (saw ___(friend)___? how did he look?)….”good..(Sal-younger?)…yup…(Sal-no white hair?)…yup”…(Sal-‘should share this with __(another common friend of ours)__) ..(Sal-Heaven is real!)..and there was angels and yeah..and see some…nice trees, was really beautiful (Sal..”new earth”)..if I go back to Earth , I would like to come down was as a dog (Sal: we’ll get new heavenly bodies..)..[stopped video]

After she shared this story, I remembered most of last week I was singing the chorus of this song (“Come & Let Your Presence fall in this…”)…e.g. workplace) that was in the list of worship songs for last Sunday as part of my local church worship team.

I was so inspired and encouraged by her story, that I told her to keep sharing this to as many people as she can. She would immediately share this with her peers, visitors at our workplace, co-worker, etc.. I’ll keep you updated of any further testimonies. Till then, may this and all these stories (above and below) encourage you in your faith and to share your own personal “faith building” story to as many people around you!

2 Corinthians 5New Living Translation (NLT)
New Bodies

” 5 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies.[a] 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

6 So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. 7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. 8 Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 10 For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body…”

“…“I had a vision there in jail of Jesus Christ. He appeared to me as real as you are and finally spoke. I said, ‘What do You want?’ And He said, ‘You.’ I says, ‘You can’t want someone like me. I’ve done all these things. Hurt all these people. Done all this stuff in my life.’ And He said, ‘I came for people like you.’ When that happened, I knew I needed to change my life.”

That night Ron called his mother and grandmother who bailed him out of jail. The first thing he asked for was to be taken to church. It was Easter Sunday.”..

I SAW JESUS! (The Karen Templin Story) Jesus Did It!
By: Karen Templin
“…As I was thinking I should look for His face, I raised my eyes, and I couldn’t have been more surprised by what I saw. I saw Jesus — He was actually there! It was just His face, but he was alive, and moving around. He had dark, shoulder-length hair with light streaks of gray, and He was wearing a crown of thorns. I just gazed up at Him, and He was smiling at me with the most loving smile I had ever seen in my life!

The first thing I thought was – He looks a little different than He does in His pictures, but only slightly different. I had expected His hair to be longer, and His nose was a little different…

Next, I saw Him sending beams of transparent, white light towards my heart. I felt the light penetrating my being. The light felt like nothing, other than pure love and compassion. Jesus was very kind and loving towards me — not condemning at all. I only sensed a strong outpouring of love from Him. He seemed perfect in His goodness and kindness.

Next He began to communicate to me, but no words were used. He communicated by sending me feelings. There was knowledge in the feelings that I understood easily and clearly as it was transferred into my mind.

He said that He already knew about it all — my lack of forgiveness towards others — how I had been hurt by other people, and the circumstances in my life that had made me feel that way. He said, “I know everything about you.” That surprised me greatly, but I also felt comforted by it. It meant that He had never been far from me like I had always thought. I realized that I had been constantly under His supervision, like when our children are small, and we never let them out of our eyesight.

Again, I felt more compassion from Him pouring out to me. He said, “I feel your pain. I grieve with you.” He was like a loving parent who will pick you up when you are hurting, and hold you in his loving arms. He will comfort you, and wipe away all of your tears. I actually felt like I had been comforted, and held in the arms of Jesus.

After He comforted me, He spoke again. He told me not to worry or concern myself with these things because He would take care of it for me. I sensed an incredible strength in Him. I felt like a burden had been lifted, and I felt like He could easily carry all of my burdens. We have all been taught about the meek and humble man, but he exuded strength, and I could feel it.

I was still looking at Him. I was still surprised by some of the things that He said. He was still looking at me. He still wore that loving smile on his face that would melt the heart of the worst hardened sinner. He was still sending me love, and it was to overflowing. There was so much love that I felt like my heart couldn’t hold it all, and it may burst if I took in much more. I began to feel like I couldn’t handle it anymore. Maybe in human form we can’t. I don’t know.

Seeing all of the goodness and purity in Him, I felt like I may break down into tears and sobs. I started to feel unworthy of His pure holiness. He was a soul at the highest level of perfection. Seeing this makes you aware of even your smallest sins. I felt unworthy of Him, and then I looked away.

When I looked back, He wasn’t there anymore, but I was left with a feeling of total awe. Jesus had been there. I had seen Him. I had felt Him. He had communicated with me. The thing I was left knowing, above everything else, was that He loved me more than anyone had ever loved me in my life!..”

What does Jesus really look like?
by Tom Brown
“..I didn’t see Him in his traditional garments; instead I saw Him sitting in a wheelchair with a blanket over His legs. There was suppose to be an elderly man sitting there, but instead it was the Lord. As I looked across the room, all I could see was Jesus. I saw Jesus in the place of all the people. He wore a nurse’s uniform. He sat in a chair where there was a lady supposed to have sat. I could not see anyone’s face. I only saw the Lord.

As I looked in astonishment, I heard the Lord say, “Whatever you have done for one of the least of these, you have done unto me.” The vision ended…”

Why did Jesus have to die for our sins?, by Matt Slick
“..Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1, 14, Col. 2:9), and only God can satisfy the Law requirements of a perfect life and perfect sacrifice that cleanses us of our sins…”

“…All people have sinned against God. But, God is infinitely holy and righteous. He must punish the sinner, the Lawbreaker. If He didn’t, then His law is not Law, for there is no law that is a law without a punishment. The punishment for breaking the Law is death – separation from God. Therefore, we sinners need a way to escape the righteous judgment of God. Since we are stained by sin and cannot keep the Law of God, then the only one who could do what we cannot is God Himself. That is why Jesus is God in flesh. He is both divine and human. He was made under the Law (Gal. 4:4), and He fulfilled it perfectly. Therefore, His sacrifice to God the Father on our behalf is of infinite value and is sufficient to cleanse all people from their sins and undo the offense to God….”

Deep Thought: Power of Forgiveness shown in my life so far…

Lately, this theme of forgiveness has been circulating where ever I go. I had to “let it out” and write about it. I ran into this video on “spiritual warfare” and the speaker shared this quote that really resonated in me…

“The devil loses, when you forgive..” Any personal stories, feedback, etc..? more..

Above is a post I shared in one of my groups (Good News Love) I created on facebook. I’ve heard there is power when we forgive each other, so I would like to start…

If any of my friends read this, please forgive me if I ever wronged you in anyway. I might’ve forgotten it, so please feel free to contact me and remind me if this will help release any resentment, offense, or hurt that will heal you.

*see other Bible verses on forgiveness

One of the causes of “offense” is due to misunderstanding, which we all quickly prejudge. There are times I reflect on my parents fighting and it’s due to the “failure to communicate” (see “Failure to Communicate”-song I wrote). Can you relate? Feel free to share below…

For those that haven’t met me yet or haven’t encountered any offense from me…yet! 😉 I’m sure there are others that might’ve hurt you in various ways (e.g. abuse). Unfortunately, you might not ever get them to forgive you. However, God (Heavenly Father) knows and I encourage you to go to Him for healing of your past hurts.

I’ll share some of my forgiveness stories:

Back in high school, a former “friend” of mine wanted to befriend me after “ignoring” me most of the later years of “middle school”. Not being a Christian at the time, I wouldn’t forgive him and shun him away. Month later, he died in a head-on-collision car accident (visiting his biological Mom all the way in Colorado). I was torn in pieces when I heard the news and wished I reconciled with him. Please don’t make the dumbest mistake as I did, reconcile with those that has hurt you before it’s too late.

During my college and post-college years, I was interested in learning more about WWII (more of the Pacific arena) due to my family’s history (grandfather got capture by the Japanese and survived as a cook and great-grandfather was presumably killed as he never returned home when scoping the vicinity for any Japanese solders). As I read more books of the horrific atrocities the Japanese did in the Philippines and elsewhere, my heart towards the Japanese grew with more hate :(.. Well, God seems to try to soften my heart by bringing Japanese students to the college I attended. Then He brought them to be my renters in the house I owned. My last renter caught me watching some WWII footage of Japan’s horrific treatment. I tried to turned it off, but he saw it and we ended up having a deep conversation. He ended up asking forgiveness for what his ancestors did. I told him no worries, but in my heart-I felt some more compassion for him and the Japanese people overall.

Lastly, this is between me and my Heavenly Father-I gave my life to Christ my freshmen year in college. I did it after hearing a testimony of this speaker at a local church in Morris. This grabbed my heart and got me off my seat to go to the front (alter) and asked God to forgive me all of my sins. That was just the beginning and still in the journey of my faith (still sinning, but trying to sin-less as I grow in my personal relationship with my “Heavenly Dad” :)..

Above are just summaries of some of my stories on forgiveness-repentance. I’ll be glad to share more, but would love to hear yours first. I would love to disclose and be open/transparent/honest with you with my personal challenges-struggles as “we” can help each other in this journey of forgiveness with the “limited uncertain” time we have on this earth…

Good News Everybody

Summer Distractions: Keep Your Eyes on Jesus!

During church yesterday (Sunday, June 21st 2015), the theme of “Keeping your Eyes on Jesus” was running around my thoughts or mind. Just last Sunday, I was at another church (Church of Acts) in St. Paul when visiting my “hometown”. The pastor shared (paraphrasing) about “What looks “good” (in the outside) might not be “good” at all”. I felt like it was a “word of knowledge” (a.k.a. “prophetic ‘warning’ word) to the church congregation (body overall) for this summer. He wasn’t specific on “what exactly”, but in general the temptations of the up-coming summer season. I was reminded of this when we sung this song at church..

A Mighty Fortress | Christy Nockels

We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You..”

Have you ever felt a “personal” message or theme during the worship music time?

Good News Praise & Worship

So how can “we” keep our eyes on Him during the up-coming summer months?

I reflected on my summer biking challenge I’m currently participating in. During the early part of my biking last night, I was praying (interceding) for the homes/businesses/neighborhoods I rode my bike by last night. We all love to enjoy the summer, right? We can pray in our mind whatever or wherever we are doing! This is my personal challenge for you all that is reading this.

I then encouraged a “women of God” after service that she shared a similar theme years ago at church with cats keeping their eyes on (food?..forgot the exact word)…but, we need to be like that “cat”..keep our eyes on Jesus!

Deep Thought: Is Hell is for “real”?

With the current growing popularity of a recent released movie, “Heaven is For Real“, I decided to do the “opposite” in an optimistic way too. I’m not writing this to scare people, but to show the reality that Hell is real too. I don’t want anybody to go there…even “my worst enemy”!

Growing-up, I had many nightmares, which would occur mostly when I was sick (Just like right now as I’m writing this, which I called in-sick due to a (e.g. sore throat-cough-cold-lethargic) over Easter weekend). I thank God now I don’t have these nightmares anymore since I gave my life to Christ (see personal testimony) after asking God forgiveness of my past sins and asked Him to be the Lord of my life.

What were my nightmares? I wasn’t sure what they were until years after I became a Christian when I learned more about the “Light”. I had nightmares of going into this deep abyss where there were creatures of different sizes (e.g. skinny, fat, tall, short…irregular shapes). It was an unfriendly dark place. I just remembered feeling scared as a little kid as I woke up sweating from this repeated nightmare when I was sick growing-up.

I look back now that I feel this was a “glimpse of Hell” after reading-watching stories of others that has been to Hell….

I was reminded of this reality again actually after I became a Christian when I did a recording project with some folks from my church with Living Waters Ministries. A friend (Spencer) invited me and some other friends to read a script dialogue of us being in Hell. Even though this was just supposed to be a drama skit, I got really into this after a “dream” of being in Hell. I still remember to this day: I was at one of the residential halls at UMM when I was a junior in college. I had a dream of “something” (demon) binding my mouth, so I wouldn’t scream. However, just having the thought of saying “In Jesus’ name…let go of me!”. The authority of His name (I was reminded this at the time when a Christian college friend of mine, Poniman from Indonesia, had a similar incident when he rebuked the devil to get off him while he was sleeping at the same similar residential hall) released me from Satan’s control. I feel God had me have this “nightmarish” dream just to remember or know the “reality” of Hell as this project can impact many lives out there that listen to this recorded skit on the radio this will be played for.

I write this so those reading this with similar nightmares like me, it can stop! Just ask God (Heavenly Father) into your life and “renew” your life! Ask Him to forgive you of all your sins and heal you of your past hurts. Doing this will not only give you “life” in eternity, but “abundantly” (blessings) with common up and down challenges. However, don’t give-up and persevere in faith with His strength and others through fellowship!

Ever had “bad dreams”? What might’ve caused them? What’s your view of “hell”? Where did you get those views (e.g. cartoons, movies, etc..) from?

Good News Death

Ever felt you were a dissappointment?

“Son, I’m very disappointed with you!” Ever heard this before or something similar? ..from your parents, authoritative adults figure, etc… A father has a right to be disappointed with you if you did something wrong (e.g. getting spanked for disrespecting my dad in front of my friends as I kid) in his eyes, but does that mean he still loves you? Most “good” fathers will say-“yes, of course”, but there are some or many out there that doesn’t communicate that love. For example, I’ve had friends that were “physically” abused. When I hear stories like this, I get more grateful of my “imperfect” loving father. My father really didn’t tell me he loved me, but he “manly” showed it by his actions (e.g. made me breakfast in the morning before going to school, give me fatherly advice on life, etc..).

What about you? How did your father show his “manly” love to you? What was or has been your favorite father-son time?

They may not be really mad as you think, but they just don’t show that kind of love your looking for. Thus, one might “hide in the cave” thinking their father is still mad at them. Some might stay disappointed with you for the wrong reason, which is where you need to know where your Heavenly Father stands. How would you know where your Heavenly Father think about you? Well, I recommend seeking His answer through His Word. It’s hard to please your father or just anybody because no one is perfect. We all have high expectations from each other. For example, when I graduated from college, my mother shared my father’s disappointment where I was going with my college education. Fortunately, I paid my own way through college, so my father didn’t get too mad. I just shook my head without no sadness and just lifted my head up knowing that my Heavenly Father isn’t. Why, it’s because I remember His Word..

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. …15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me…-Galatians 1

You see when I became a Christian my first year in college, I became a follower of Christ and not “man”. My mom was “disappointed” when I got water baptized my 3rd year in college because of our “religious” Catholic up-bringing. It’s over 10+ years later that my parents are no longer “disappointed” with my choices I made during college. They learned to accept it as I’m still their son in their flesh. They have seen how I’ve grown “positively” too as I credit my Christian walk. I”m not saying, I do everything “good”, but I’m doing a lot “better” then I was before I became a Christian (see on-going testimony).

However, it wasn’t like this growing-up. When I didn’t know the Lord (I did know “of” Him, but didn’t have that personal Heavenly Father to Son relationship). When a “close one” (older adult) was very critical of things (e.g. my way of dressing ) I did growing-up, I would grow to have a lower self-esteem. However, this “criticism” actually made me “work harder” in things I did. As similar to my dad, this particular “older adult” showed love in a different (e.g. “treated” me out many times) way. I was very quiet and shy most of my years growing-up. I think it was mostly because of my “negative” experience at home, school, workplace, etc.. Each has some long stories, which I can do another blog post for another time. Overall, I didn’t get much affirmation or positive remarks on what I did. I probably got more encouragement from my workplace and playing sports (I had my share of “negativity” too) then at home. My family was great, but it’s a different culture than America. Thus, my expectations through my comparing or envying others made it difficult. We are all blessed in different ways. That is why I’ve learned to list things I’m thankful each night before going to bed. It helps me not focus on my challenges of disappointments in any given day in life as I give it up in prayer. How have you dealt or deal with the “negativity” spoken or acted upon you? Just ignore it (see Chihuahua Puppy Barking Like a Wolf )
