8 Things You May Not Know About “Jingle Bells” By Christopher Klein // December 16, 2016 history.com

“..J.P. Morgan’s uncle wrote “Jingle Bells.” ..

The “Jingle Bells” composer was the son of a fiercely abolitionist Unitarian minister, Reverend John Pierpont. From an early age, James Lord Pierpont sought adventures far away from his family in Boston. At the age of 14, he ran off from boarding school, joined the crew of a whaling ship and spent nearly a decade at sea. When the California Gold Rush struck in 1849, Pierpont left his wife and children behind in Massachusetts while he chased riches in the West. Returning home several years later no wealthier than when he left, Pierpont departed from his family again in 1853 to become the organist at a Unitarian church in Savannah, Georgia, that was pastored by his brother. Several months after the death of his first wife in 1856, the songwriter married a daughter of Savannah’s mayor and left the two children from his first marriage back in the North with their grandfather. ..”

The Man Behind ‘Feliz Navidad’ By Caitlin Johnson CBS December 17, 2006, 11:18 AM
“.. “Feliz Navidad” gets more radio play than any other Christmas song in the country — and it’s #1 on Latino song lists, too, which still astounds Feliciano…

Feliciano was born in Puerto Rico in 1945, blind at birth from congenital glaucoma, but very much aware of the rhythms around him from the beginning….

..What makes his accomplishment more impressive is that Feliciano was a poor, blind kid — one of eleven boys — who moved to New York when he was five, but made his way to the top…”

The Puerto Rican musician wrote the lyrics of his Christmas classic in English to ensure American radio stations would play it.
“..The song is big, bright, punchy, and warm; it could melt away all the snow in “White Christmas.” Just 20 words in English and Spanish make up its lyrics—forget the mental and verbal athleticism required to pull off “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” And when Feliciano sings it, he sounds nothing short of effusive in his desire to spread holiday joy: “From the bottom of my heeaaartt!!!” And you can feel that all that joy and earnestness, even if you don’t know quite know what “Prospero año y felicidad” means…”

Many people have been told that December 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ, but what does the Bible have to say on the matter? Is it truly the day Jesus was born? The short answer would be “no”. “

Daniel’s timeline for Jesus rewritten 12/11/13
“..2. Jesus was born on the Day of Atonement, Tishri 10

The Day of Atonement, Tishri 10, was a special Sabbath, and the holiest day in the Old Covenant Jewish calendar year. The only day of the year our Heavenly Father came down to be with man, in the Holy of Holies within the Temple at Jerusalem. On this day our Heavenly Father would annually forgive the sins of Israel, make Israel holy for one more year, as they awaited the promised Messiah, Jesus, to come and save them. The significance of this holy day alone, foreshadows that this day would be the Day when Jesus would be born, would come to take away our sins, and make believers spiritually holy forever. The Birth of Jesus

*The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “On exactly the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you, and you shall humble your souls and present an offering by fire to the Lord.” You shall not do any work on this same day, for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement on your behalf before the Lord your God. Lev 23:26-28 NASB+

Jesus’ Birth – The Feast of Trumpets When Was Jesus Born?
truthinscripture.net
“..The date of September 11, 3 BC was Tishri 1 on the Jewish calendar in 3 BC. Tishri 1 is, of course, the 1st day of the first Jewish month. This date is also called Yom Teruah: The Day of Trumpets; the Feast of Trumpets; and Rosh Hashanah: Head of the Year, or Feast of the New Year.

From the proper astronomical interpretation of Revelation 12:1-6 (see previous Post: Jesus’ Birth – Astrological/Zodiacal References in Scripture), the only day in 3 BC which meets the astronomical confluences discussed is September 11, 3 BC, during the period of sunset to moonset, 6:18 pm to 7:39 pm. The close proximity of the positions of the sun and the moon as described in Revelation indicate a new moon time frame, which is exactly the situation which exists on the first day of a Jewish lunar month, as on Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets. Jesus must have been born on the Feast of Trumpets, as no other day of the year in 3 BC could astronomically meet the specific requirements detailed in Revelation…”

Was the Christmas “Star” a Comet? Hale-Bopp Comet (1997)
(by Philipp Salzgeber CC-BY-SA-2.0-AT more) factsandfaith.com
Jesus’ Birth
“..As presented in Humphreys’ article, Chinese astronomical records document the appearance of three (3) comets around the time of Jesus’ birth:

12 B.C.
Halley’s Comet made an appearance on August 12, 12 B.C. and remained visible for 56 days. The sighting was recorded by Chinese astronomers in the Book of Han of the Han Dynasty: “Lately, reproaches in the form of solar eclipses and meteors have been in the sky….Now a bushy star has been seen in Tung-chin….”

However, because the great majority of scholars maintain Jesus had to have been born between 7 B.C. and 2 B.C. (more>>), Humphreys concludes the 12 B.C. sighting of Halley’s comet is too early to have been the Christmas “star” (aster).
5 B.C.
Historical records of the Chinese in 5 B.C. refer to the appearance of a “new star” in the Capricorn Constellation which was “sui-hsing” meaning a “broom star.”Because the “new” star” had a “broom tail”, most astronomers believe the sighting of that “new star” was, in fact, a sighting of a comet with a sweeping tail.
4 B.C.
Chinese astronomical records also reference a sighting of a “new star” in 4 B.C.

However, other than being a “new star” with a tail (and, therefore, most likely a comet), little information is known about the comet. Therefore, Humphreys maintains there is no way to know if that comet exhibited characteristics consistent with the description of the Christmas “star” (aster) in Matthew 2.

Additionally, because Humphreys believes there is strong evidence that Herod died in 4 B.C. such that Jesus would have been born in 5 B.C. – 6 B.C. (more>>), he eliminates the 4 B.C. comet from consideration.

[See, Colin Humphreys, “The Star of Bethlehem” (1995), asa.org (accessed 9/16/11)]

Based on the above, Colin Humphreys proposes the 5 B.C. comet referenced in ancient astronomical records is a credible candidate for the Christmas “star”.

How Well Does the 5 B.C. Comet Proposal
Correspond with the 7 Things Scholars Have Historically
Considered in Evaluating Candidates for the Christmas “Star”?

Allowing for the unresolved issues which remain concerning how Matthew’s description of the “star” is to be interpreted from the original Greek text (more>>), scholars have historically considered seven (7) things in evaluating the legitimacy of astronomical candidates for the Christmas “star” (aster) (more>>).

As applied to the 5 B.C. comet, those seven (7) considerations are as follows:

Does the appearance of the 5 B.C. coma reasonably explain why Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem looking for “one born king of the Jews” (Matt. 2:1-2)? skip to
Was the 5 B.C. comet either a new “star” (aster) the Magi saw for the first time rise in the east; or, as alternatively interpreted, was the comet seen by the Magi “when it rose” or “at it’s rising” in the east or was it seen rising in the east? (see, Matt. 2:1-2, 9)? skip to
Did the 5 B.C. comet appear at the time of Jesus’ birth? skip to
Does the appearance of the 5 B.C. comet reasonably explain why Herod had to learn from the Magi when the “star” (aster) had appeared? (see, Matt. 2:7)? skip to
Did the appearance of the 5 B.C. comet last long enough to have been seen by the Magi in the east (Matt. 2:2) and still seen (or, alternatively, seen again) when the Magi left Jerusalem for Bethlehem? (see, Matt 2:9-10)? skip to
Did the 5 B.C. comet go ahead of the Magi or, alternatively, did it appear to go ahead of the Magi on their journey from Jerusalem to Bethlehem? (see, Matt. 2:9) skip to
Could the 5 B.C. comet have been seen by the Magi “stopped over” (NIV, NLT), standing over (ASV, KJV) or resting over (ESV) “the place where the child was”? (see, Matt. 2:9) skip to

Consideration No. 1

Does the appearance of the 5 B.C. comet reasonably explain why Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem looking for “one born king of the Jews” (Matt. 2:2)? (more>>)

Many scholars believe the Magi were pseudo scientists (astronomers) from Babylon or Persia who may have been part of the legacy of Jews who were deported to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar II (more>>). If so, the Magi may have been aware of Daniel’s prophecy concerning the coming of a king of the Jews (see, Dan. 9:25); consequently, they may have been looking for a sign of the coming of a Jewish king around the time of Jesus’ birth…”

The Astronomy Behind The Star Of Bethlehem Brian Koberlein Contributor Science forbes.com
“..The wise men, or magi in the original Greek, are often represented as kings, but in context were likely astrologers. According to Matthew, they saw some astronomical event as a foretelling of Christ’s birth. There is debate among scholars as to the historical accuracy of event. Matthew is the only gospel that mentions the magi, and many scholars feel it’s a bit of pious allegory to show that the destiny of Jesus was written in the stars. But if we assume for the moment that Matthew’s account is accurate, it raises the question of what exactly the Star of Bethlehem could have been. ..

Another possibility is that the Star of Bethlehem was a comet. Bright comets do appear in the sky from time to time, and have been described as “hanging over” particular cities or lands, as the Star of Bethlehem is often represented. We know that Halley’s comet was visible in the region in 12 BC, and would have been bright enough to be described as a star. But the writers of Matthew would likely have known the difference between a comet and a star, and specifically noted the event as a star…”

A third possibility is that it could have been a nova or supernova. These appear in the sky as “new stars” and are sometimes brighter than even Venus or Jupiter in the night sky. This would match the Biblical description, and might have been interpreted as a good omen. Chinese and Korean astronomers noted the appearance of a nova in 5 BC, which would be around the right time frame, but this nova wasn’t noted by astronomers in other regions, so it likely wasn’t particularly bright. A truly bright nova or supernova, such as the one observed by Tycho Brahe in 1572, would have created a remnant that we could observe today, and there is no known remnant that can be dated to the time of Jesus. …

NextEra Energy, Inc. and Duke Energy, is an approximately 515-mile interstate natural gas pipeline to provide transportation services for power generation needs to Florida Power and Light (“FPL”) and Duke Energy of Florida (“DEF”) by the end of June 2017.

The Sabal Trail underground pipeline will bring additional affordable, clean natural gas supplies to Florida, while increasing the reliability of the region’s energy delivery system and positively impacting the economy in the Southeast region of the United States, specifically Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The Sabal Trail project will provide economic stimulus in the form of increased tax revenue and local jobs. According to an economic study, the pipeline project will immediately create jobs for hardworking men and women in these three states, with the end product being capable of transporting over 1 billion cubic feet per day or more of natural gas to serve local distribution companies, industrial users and natural gas-fired power generators in the Southeast markets.

Sabal Trail spill, protests across U.S. spur debate over natural gas pipeline in Florida By Bruce Ritchie | 11/17/16 05:42 AM EST politico.com
“…The Georgia Water Coalition on Wednesday listed the Sabal Trail pipeline on its annual “dirty dozen” list of threats to rivers in the state. Several of those rivers, including the Chattahoochee, Flint and Withlacoochee rivers, eventually flow into Florida.

John Quarterman of the WWALS Watershed Coalition environmental group in Georgia said the public was told such accidents were not possible.

“So what else can happen that they said couldn’t happen?” Quarterman asked. “And why should we take that risk or any risk for this pipeline that has never been of any benefit to the state?”

The bentonite clay in the discharged drilling mud can deplete oxygen in the river that aquatic life needs to survive, Quarterman’s group says. He said he’s also concerned that drilling could cause cave systems to collapse and cause more discharges into rivers and the Floridan Aquifer, the source of drinking water for the region.

Bert Langley, director of compliance at the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in Atlanta, said the pressurized drilling mud apparently surfaced through a crevice in the bedrock beneath the river bottom. While technically the release of any drilling mud is a permit violation, Langley said, he noted that the company acted quickly to contain the discharge and there has been no additional releases.

“We are going to monitor it a little bit,” he said. “As long as things continue the way they are, I doubt we will take any action as far as an enforcement action.”

The Sabal Trail pipeline, a joint venture of Spectra Energy, Duke Energy and the parent company of Florida Power & Light Co., will extend 515 miles from central Alabama to Osceola County in Central Florida. The company began construction in August after receiving required permits but it faces continued opposition from groups, including the Sierra Club.

Environmentalists have filed federal lawsuits to try to block the Sabal Trail pipeline, claiming it’s a threat to rivers and the Floridan Aquifer.

Fellow Floridians, it’s time to have a serious talk. While we’ve been looking the other way, there have been machinations devised and put into action to both rape our ecological resources and dupe the citizens of this state out of their rights and finances. The Sabal Trail Pipeline is 515 miles of potential disaster waiting just a few feet below the ground. Mind you, the United States has over 2.5 MILLION miles of these pipelines crossing the country, and just recently we heard news from Alabama regarding a similar structure that caused a significant disaster. The area of North Florida that the pipeline is traversing runs right through the most exposed part of the Floridan aquifer as well as through karst limestone which has a tendency to be unstable. Further, this pipeline represents a 3.2 BILLION DOLLAR investment into an archaic and soon-to-be-obsolete source of energy; it’s also not a source of local jobs, as all of the materials, workers… everything down to the Port-a-Lets come from out-of-state. As Floridians, we have absolutely ZERO vested interest in these pipelines—they offer no economic incentive in any form and the citizens of the state are the ones bearing all of the risk and damages.

This is what we all need to do: support the Stop Sabal Trail Pipeline movement as well as all of the other grassroots activist groups fighting to stop corporate intrusion into our right to a clean and safe Earth to live on. Follow all of these groups on social media, and lend your support in any way possible. The time is NOW to take action—we do not have a single moment left to spare. Saltwater Spill in Bear Den Bay

By Ali Guio mss-lawfirm.com
“..Over the Fourth of July weekend, a pipe carrying saltwater (also called “brine”) separated near North Dakota’s badlands and spilled an estimated one million gallons of the oil and gas production byproduct. Brine is ten to thirty times saltier than seawater. The saltwater spill extended nearly two miles down a steep ravine and left a swath of dead vegetation in its path. The polluted ravine flows into Bear Den Bay, which is a tributary to man-made Lake Sakakawea. Lake Sakakawea provides drinking water to the nearby Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. The natural resources administrator for the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara tribes expressed concern that because the spill occurred at the top of a craggy bluff, the terrain would hinder efforts preserve the Reservation’s drinking water supply. An investigation Thursday by the Environmental Protection Agency revealed that the saltwater reached Bear Den Bay, but that most of the spill was pooled into the ground or held behind beaver dams. The pipeline in question was not equipped with a monitor that would have alerted the company to the spill before this large amount of brine had escaped. The spill was discovered when the company noticed a discrepancy in production loss reports and investigated. ..”

Persistent Water and Soil Contamination Found at N.D. Wastewater Spills
By Zahra Hirji
May 5, 2016 dailyyonder.com
“..The results “indicate that the water contamination from brine spills is remarkably persistent in the environment,” Duke scientists wrote in their study published last week in the journal Environmental Science & Technology. The contamination included high levels of selenium, known to be toxic to fish and wildlife, and radioactive radium…

More than 4,000 spills have occurred in North Dakota since 2001, state records show. While many of these spills involve small amounts of wastewater, an investigation by Inside Energy last year showed these spills are increasing in size and frequency. In a move to curb these spills, state regulators are drafting new stricter construction and monitoring requirements for wastewater pipelines…

Two of the largest spills were the subject of the recent study. The biggest was discovered in January 2015 when a pipeline sprung a leak in the northwestern corner of the state near the town of Williston. Approximately 3 million gallons of wastewater was released, contaminating at least two waterways, including Blacktail Creek. (This same pipeline leaked againearlier this year close to the previous spill site.) In July 2014, about a million gallons of wastewater spilled out of a different pipeline in western North Dakota. Called the Bear Den Bay spill, it occurred in the Fort Berthold Reservation and impacted a tributary of Lake Sakakawea..”

Some water samples had metal concentrations exceeding federal environmental and drinking water regulations. Selenium levels at most spill sites were 35 times higher than those recommended for freshwater aquatic life. And the radium levels observed were 10 to 100 times higher than the levels found at non-spill sites, with the potential to linger in the soil for centuries…”

(Health: Effects from Water Contaminated by Oil Spills goodnewshealthandfitness.wordpress.com)

Potential Health and Environmental Effects of Hydrofracking in the Williston Basin, Montana -Author: Joe HoffmanHow to Teach Controversial Topics » serc.carleton.edu
“…Health Effects of Fracking:

A 2011 article in the journal, Human and Ecological Risk Assessment, examined the potential health impacts of oil and gas drilling in relation to the chemicals used during drilling, fracking, processing, and delivery of natural gas. The paper compiled a list of 632 chemicals (an incomplete list due to trade secrecy exemptions) identified from drilling operations throughout the U.S. Their research found that 75% of the chemicals could affect the skin, eyes, and other sensory organs, and the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems. Approximately 40–50% could affect the brain/nervous system, immune and cardiovascular systems, and the kidneys; 37% could affect the endocrine system; and 25% could cause cancer and mutations.

Health impacts from fracking are only now being examined by health experts, since such large-scale drilling is a recent phenomenon. Exposure to toxic chemicals even at low levels can cause tremendous harm to humans; the endocrine system is sensitive to chemical exposures measuring in parts-per-billions, or less. Nevertheless, many of the health risks from the toxins used during the fracking process do not express themselves immediately, and require studies looking into long-term health effects.

Despite the complexities of the on-site mixtures of chemicals and their specific contributions to health and environmental problems involved in fracking–conventional drilling practices are more old school and do have known health consequences. Researchers at the Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado, analyzed existing research of exposure to conventional petroleum hydrocarbons in occupational settings, and residences near refineries, in conjunction with known pollutants associated with fracking (nonconventional), in order to assess health risks to those residents living near fracking operations. Their basic conclusions were: the closer you live to drilling operations, the greater your health risk. Sounds obvious, but if you were to sue an oil company for the suspected killing a loved one via cancer, you would need a little more legal ammunition than “it just makes common sense” against an army of corporate lawyers.

North Dakota oil spill 3 times larger than first estimated
BLAKE NICHOLSON,Associated Press 5 hours ago (Friday, March 24th 2017) yahoo.com
“BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A December oil pipeline spill in western North Dakota might have been three times larger than first estimated and among the biggest in state history, a state environmental expert said Friday.

About 530,000 gallons of oil is now believed to have spilled from the Belle Fourche Pipeline that was likely ruptured by a slumping hillside about 16 miles northwest of Belfield in Billings County, Health Department environmental scientist Bill Seuss said. The earlier estimate was about 176,000 gallons.

No decision has been made on any fines against Wyoming-based True Cos., which operates the pipeline. The company says it is committed to cleaning up the spill and that the job is about 80 percent done.

“There’s no timeline for completion, spokeswoman Wendy Owen said. “We will be there until it is” done.

A company’s efforts to clean up after an oil spill are a large factor in how much of a fine is levied, according to Seuss.

“We tend to hold off on those. It’s kind of a motivator,” he said.

The largest oil pipeline spill in North Dakota was 840,000 gallons, in a wheat field near Tioga in September 2013.

In the December spill, an unknown amount of oil flowed into Ash Coulee Creek, which feeds into the Little Missouri River, a tributary of the Missouri River. Seuss said no oil made it into those rivers or into any drinking water source, but that the focus is on cleaning up the creek before spring grazing season, since cattle drink from the waterway.

There have been no confirmed cases of livestock or wildlife deaths related to the spill. One rancher reported some cattle deaths but refused to allow the state veterinarian to do a necropsy, according to Seuss. Cleanup crews also found a dead beaver, but it’s not known what caused the death.

The pipeline had been leaking since being restarted Dec. 1 following routine maintenance, Seuss said. A landowner discovered the spill on Dec. 5.

There is still oil seeping out of the hillside but it’s being contained. Soil remediation work could take “a year or more,” Seuss said.”

In North Dakota and Nationwide, A Boom in Health Problems Accompanies Fracking By Nicholas Kusnetz

“..Schilke lost 25 pounds in the summer of 2009 and started having trouble breathing. She had constant diarrhea and would get lightheaded. Her husband Steve’s asthma worsened, frequently leaving him tired and short of breath. The couple began getting unusual muscle aches. The following winter, Jacki got another rash, a quarter-sized spot on her leg that wouldn’t go away. She visited a neurologist who couldn’t explain what was happening. She noticed an ammonia-like smell in the house and started looking for a source, thinking that might be what was making them sick. “Hell, I hauled shit out of here by truckloads,” Jacki says. “I threw everything away. There wasn’t even a bottle of cleaner left in this house.”..”

Company: Equipment didn’t detect North Dakota oil leak Associated Press Associated Press By JAMES MacPHERSON, Associated Press msn.com 2 hrs ago (Monday, December 12th 2016)
“..BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Electronic monitoring equipment failed to detect a pipeline rupture that spewed more than 176,000 gallons of crude oil into a North Dakota creek, the pipeline’s operator said Monday.

It’s not yet clear why the monitoring equipment didn’t detect the leak, Wendy Owen, a spokeswoman for Casper, Wyoming-based True Cos., which operates the Belle Fourche Pipeline, said.

A landowner discovered the spill near Belfield on Dec. 5, according to Bill Suess, an environmental scientist with the North Dakota Health Department.

Suess said the spill migrated about almost 6 miles from the spill site along Ash Coulee Creek, and it fouled an unknown amount of private and U.S. Forest Service land along the waterway. The creek feeds into the Little Missouri River, but Seuss said it appears no oil got that far and that no drinking water sources were threatened. The creek was free-flowing when the spill occurred but has since frozen over…”

Lawmakers Move to Regulate Pipelines, After a Record Spill in a Drilling Boom
By Zahra Hirji, InsideClimate News Mar 11, 2015
North Dakota has 20,000 miles of largely unregulated ‘gathering lines,’ and that number is expected to increase by around 60% over the next five years.
“..In North Dakota, the number of drilling-related spills occurring annually has steadily increased in recent years, according to an analysis by Inside Energy, a news site. In 2010, there were about 1,000 spills reported. In 2013, there were around twice as many reported.

Since the start of the year, there have been six large spills in North Dakota: five dumped at least 450 gallons of fracking byproduct, and one spilled nearly 500 gallons of oil, according to the state’s online spill databases.

Among those accidents was the largest wastewater spill in North Dakota since the fracking boom kicked off in the early 2000s. On Jan. 6, the spill near Williston was discovered by an employee of the pipeline’s operator, Meadowlark Midstream Company, LLC. Some 2.2 million gallons gushed through a hole 2 inches in diameter––the width of two quarters side-by-side.

Water sampling shows the spill affected at least two local waterways in the Missouri River watershed—Blacktail Creek and Little Muddy River—as well as groundwater around the rupture site. Officials say the spill doesn’t pose a health threat—and that no water wells have been impacted. The pipeline in question measures 4 inches in diameter and is made of a composite material called Fiberspar.

The pipe was immediately shut off after the leak was discovered. The ruptured section of the pipe has been replaced but the line remains shut off. The cause of the spill is still being investigated. According to local news organization Inforum, the pipeline was outfitted with equipment to allow remote monitoring, but the company wasn’t using the technology. Instead, workers checked for leaks using handheld devices.

The wastewater comes from deep underground. When a well is first tapped, flowback, a mix of the slurry cocktail used to blast open the rock and minimal amounts of produced water, comes back up. Once oil and gas start to flow out, produced water continues to gush up for months.

Oil Companies Dumping Radioactive Waste in North Dakota – The Rachel Maddow Show

Over Residents’ Objections, North Dakota Lets Oil Companies Dump Radioactive Waste August 10, 2016 governing.com
“..Despite some very emotional testimony, calls of “Why aren’t you listening to us?” along with scientific input, the council voted unanimously on Tuesday to ratify the new rules allowing up to 50 picocuries of radioactive waste from oil and gas production in specially permitted landfills.

After the vote, the council’s attorney said it will ask a district court judge for a summary judgment to end the lawsuit filed by the Dakota Resource Council and the North Dakota Energy Industry Waste Coalition. The suit challenges any actions stemming from the original, illegal meeting.

Assistant attorney Jeff Erickson said the request for a summary judgment would be based on the fact that, by replaying and ratifying the entire agenda from last August, “everything that would have happened has happened.”

The groups’ attorney, Sarah Vogel, said she intends to continue the suit. The Health Council scheduled Tuesday’s do-over after the district court threw out its earlier request to have the case dismissed.

How to be “not” in the world, but a “light” to the world?

ALCOHOL

As a Christian, this has been a challenge for me-how to be “not” in the world (see “92 Bible Verses about Being Like The World” from openbible.info) , but a “light” to the world (see 29 Bible Verses about Being A Light from openbible.info).

I’ve been to many parties where I meet these challenges. I’m always offered an “alcoholic” drink, but as I’ve gotten “older” I personally don’t care for it because I’ve gotten more health conscious. However, when I was “younger”, I would not hesitate because I wanted to “fit in” (cultural norm). I caught myself drinking too much than I could and got a little drunk, which I know is a “no no” in the Bible. As I grew more in my walk with God, I drank less and less-to avoid getting drunk.

I decided to write this because after a recent party, a friend (brother in Christ) was being frank that he was drinking because it’s part of the culture. He ended up talking my ear trying to give all of his reasons why he drank as a Christian (didn’t say this word for word, but just my interpretation because I’ve been in his shoes before). I then replied my personal reasons why I wasn’t drinking is because I’ve became more “health conscious” (see my new Health & Fitness Blog). God didn’t have the Bible to be a book of “don’t do this or do that” to prevent us having “fun”. He did this to protect us and keep us safe. It’s never mentioned that we shouldn’t drink (see 80 Bible Verses about Drinking Alcohol from openbible.info). Instead…

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, “Ephesians 5:18

I ended up telling my brother in Christ my personal reasons for not drinking without quoting from the Bible as I know he knows already. I just told him I’ve grew to be more “health conscious” and see no health benefits to drinking alcohol. I’m tired of feeling “unhealthy” the day after drinking. I used to try to eat certain foods to get rid of the alcohol in my body. If I do drink (moderation) at certain parties (special occasions), I would take this detox pill (see my blog “Importance of Cleansing: Detoxification) to cleanse my liver of alcohol the following morning.

What boils down to is it’s between you and God. I have a friend (brother in Christ) who doesn’t touch alcohol period because he has a biological “gene” to be addicted to it. I say “Amen” brother! At least he know his “kryptonite” (e.g. bible verse on “flee from temptation“-2 Timothy 2). It’s an individual basis, what’s your personal story? I have another friend who has the “addiction” and any picture or anything that he sees, hears, smell, etc.. that associated with alcohol, he goes through “withdrawals” or “craving for alcohol” due to his early years of drinking and now struggling to fight over this addiction.

I’ll be sharing more alcohol-related stories more as they come to mind later, so stay tuned!

John and Bobby take on alcohol the role of alcohol and its place in the Christian church. In chit chat, Bobby asks John about his urinal behaviors and they both make predictions for the coming election.

Getting out of self-focus

I have been pondering about this topic lately on “getting rid of self-focus” (e.g. self-pity). When we tend to focus on ourselves (e.g. pondering about our past: mistakes, hurts, etc..), we forget about whose (e.g. God, family, friends, etc..) around us. Do you ever get this? Do you feel this can be a distraction (e.g. staring down or hitting more obstacles that can be avoided in life) to “moving-on” or “moving ahead” in (a fulfilling) life?

Distractions In Life – Everything

“This is a slideshow I made being deeply moved by the Lifehouse Skits’ posted here, on Godtube and many other video-hosting sites. Sometimes, when we fail, we ignore God’s helping hand and instead seek these things, unknown to the fact that they bring us down even lower. We fall to them, we get attached to them and ultimately, get destroyed by them. Only God’s unfailing love can wash us from these sins and inspire us to move on. Only in God’s presence can we find true joy, peace and everlasting love.”

What are some ways to re-direct this “focus”?
