Charlottesville murder suspect’s teacher: ‘He thought Nazis were pretty cool guys’By Michael Edison Hayden Aug 13, 2017, 8:28 PM ET abcnews.go.com
“The 20-year-old Ohio man police say accelerated his car into a crowd of counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, in an incident that left one dead and 19 injured “thought the Nazis were pretty cool guys,” according to his former history teacher.
James Alex Fields Jr. was charged with second-degree murder following Saturday’s incident. Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old victim, was marching alongside members of the Democratic Socialists of America and other activist groups at the time she was killed, according to witnesses.
Derek Weimer says he taught World History to Fields, as well as a course called America’s Modern Wars, while Fields was a student at Randall K. Cooper High School in Union, Kentucky. He described Fields as being “fairly quiet,” “smart,” and also an open admirer of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. ..”

Robert E. Lee Monuments Are Symbols of Neo-Confederacy, Not the Confederacy By Ed Kilgore nymag.com
“..had the frequent thought that the debate suffered under the misapprehension that these monuments were memorials to the Confederacy. They weren’t. They were monuments to the neo-Confederacy that dominated the South and national race relations up until and in some respect beyond the civil-rights movement. In his second eloquent take on why the monuments need to come down, Adam Serwer makes the key point:
The Lee monument in New Orleans went up not in 1876 but in 1884, as racist paramilitaries like the White League helped the Democratic Party re-establish its political dominance over the city; these statues are commemorations of those victories, not politically neutral commemorations of fallen warriors. They were raised to, in the words of the historian David Blight, help “construct a story of noble sacrifice for a holy cause of home and independence, and especially in the service of a racial ideology that would sustain white supremacy.”
This is true not just of monuments to Lee and other Confederate leaders, but of that other recent source of controversy, the maintenance of Confederate emblems (typically the Confederate battle flag) on southern state flags and at state capitals. For the most part, these emblems were adopted not immediately after the Civil War,..”

Listen to A Black Conservative Tell You Why Removing Confederate Statues is Revisionist History
“…Robert E. Lee is said to have been a slave owner but so was General Ulysseus S. Grant, the leader of the Union Army. Nobody wants to desecrate any of his monuments. The Confederacy was said to be fighting for the preservation of slavery, but the North had slaves throughout the entire war and for a brief period of time after the war, longer than the South was allowed to keep their slaves. The Confederate flag is seen as a symbol of racism but it only existed for 4 years of slavery, while the American flag existed for around 90 years of slavery and the Union Jack existed for about 150 years of slavery before that (in North America of course.) Many of these facts are not known by the general public and more facts will continue to go unknown if the current trend of revisionist history continues. And those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it…”

When people stop talking, inevitably, unfortunately and predictably violence escalates. Virginia Gov. The violence escalated from there with many being pepper sprayed, hit with rocks, physically assaulted and most shockingly – an individual drove a vehicle into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing at least one person and leaving countless more injured.

Where white nationalists and Zionists meet dw.com
“..White nationalists blame Jews for everything from the “problem” of racial integration to swings in world economic trends. Yet in the United States, they look to Israel as a model of the ethno-state they wish to emulate…
Strange bedfellows
The white nationalists who engage in this kind of dialogue tend to look at Israel as the product of a nationalist movement. “On the one hand, they’re promoting this view of Israel, but remaining anti-Semitic,” said Mayo. “They still think Jews control the media and the government.”
“It’s a rhetorical strategy, but were you to probe at it very closely, it would rapidly become clear that their Zionism is a cover for old-fashion racism,” Sarna said. “And in a sense, as is so often the case, the extreme left and the extreme right merge: Both believe in a sense that Zionism is racism, but one thinks that’s good and one thinks that’s bad.”..”

She told the Jewish Chronicle that that the Jewish division has around 100 members, “most of whom are Jewish”…”

‘Jews will not replace us’: Why white supremacists go after Jews By Yair Rosenberg August 13 at 9:35 PM washingtonpost.com
“They immediately went after the Jews. At their Friday night rally at the University of Virginia, the white nationalists brandished torches and chanted anti-Semitic and Nazi slogans, including “blood and soil” (an English rendering of the Nazi “blut und boden”) and “Jews will not replace us” — all crafted to cast Jews as foreign interlopers who need to be expunged. The attendees proudly displayed giant swastikas and wore shirts emblazoned with quotes from Adolf Hitler. One banner read, “Jews are Satan’s children.”..”

A Christian response to Charlottesville PUBLISHED ON 16 August, 2017 BY Lyndsey Koh mnnonline.org
“..Christians in Charlottesville were also present. Members of the clergy linked arms and sang ‘This Little Light of Mine’ in a stand against the alt-right group. Taylor says he also witnessed believers holding prayer vigils.
He speculates this event may have been a catalyst for more clashes in the future. “This is going to affect probably the entire South. This is a small thing we’re seeing in Charlottesville compared to what’s ready to explode. This is going to happen in Richmond, this is going to happen in Arkansas, this is going to happen everywhere where you have these kinds of monuments and this is just getting started.”
Same Ideology; Different Name
The ideology of nationalists is quite similar to the ideology of terrorists and extremists. According to InfoPlease, the stated mission of al Qaeda is “to drive Americans and American influence out of all Muslim nations, especially Saudi Arabia; destroy Israel; and topple pro-Western dictatorships around the Middle East.” Boko Haram in Nigeria literally means “Western education is forbidden”. ISIS has made it known that their goal is to establish an Islamic caliphate across the Middle East.

When white nationalists chant, “Our blood, our soil!” and “You will not replace us! Jews will not replace us!” it’s another violent ideology based in a “them versus us” mentality, and is completely counter to the message of the Bible.
As Scripture says in 1 John 4:20, “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”
Taylor shares, “I think God is waking us up…. What we saw this past week where the young man drove into a crowd, that was reminiscent of what al-Qaeda is doing, what extremist Muslims are doing. And now it’s kind of come full-circle, it’s now hitting here in our homeland. This should be a wake-up call to us, that we can’t ignore what’s happening around the world.”
Hijacking the Label ‘Christian’
But some within the alt-right group do indeed claim the label of ‘Christian’. And there is grave danger in those who would hijack the name of Christ for their own nationalist agendas.
Taylor says, “There is a huge risk I think right now in terms of how people are viewing religion. There’s the impression that young people are going to get as they’re growing up in this context that religion is something that’s harmful, that’s something that is extremist. This is the time to speak into a generation that is increasingly becoming secularized…”

The image, which shows a man in an “Antifascist Action” jacket beating a fallen police officer, was shared widely after a white supremacist rally in Virginia turned violent. People shared the photo as evidence that “many sides” were to blame for the violence, as President Donald Trump had suggested.
“Today’s @NYTimes front-page portrays the violent Antifa thugs as noble, & willing to ‘defend’ themselves. THAT is #Fakenews. And despicable,” one popular radio host wrote on Twitter, alongside a copy of the photo.

Blog posts wrongly say there’s proof Democrats hired actors to play white nationalists By Joshua Gillin on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at 1:50 p.m. politifact.com
“…”This is highly suspicious and almost suggests that these people were being hired for the rally in Charlottesville this weekend to impersonate ‘white nationalists’ and incite violence so it would look like they were at fault for the chaos,” the NewsUpToday.com post read.
That’s hardly a “smoking gun” implicating Democrats in faking protests and causing violence. The Craiglist ad proves nothing at all, beyond the fact that Crowds On Demand is a real company.
Crowds On Demand hires crowds for events, including political rallies. It’s run by a UCLA political science graduate named Adam Swart, who started the company in 2012.
Swart has said that his company has been hired by political campaigns before, and that Crowds On Demand will work with any political party. Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., for example, had paid Crowds On Demand $15 a head for people to attend events during his 2013 New York City mayoral run, the New York Post reported.
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign also used crowd-hiring services, although they denied it at first. Trump used a different crowd-filling company.
Swart did not return multiple phone calls and emails from PolitiFact asking for comment. He did provide a statement to Snopes.com saying Crowds On Demand didn’t work with either the Unite the Right rally or the counter-protesters…”

Charlottesville: Viewing racism through a biblical lens
PUBLISHED ON 16 August, 2017 BY Reagan Hoezee mnnonline.org
“…“The Bible is chock-full of racist elements that illustrate the depravity of human beings and their ability to find ways to hate and destroy one another,” Moeller says. “Jews did that to the Samaritans. The Jews and the Gentiles were guilty in many places throughout Scripture of having a racist identity that ignored and defeated the very revelation of God.”
Moeller says that apart from Christ, there is no antidote for racism. Only when we realize what racism truly is, he says, can we begin to foster unity.
“I think the root of racism is idolatry,” Moeller says. “There’s no question in my mind that when we are convinced that our race is superior, our way of life is superior, we’re actually putting something in place of our primary love that should be there for God.
“If we remember that racism is an idolatry, then we have to remember also that Christ’s coming is to destroy the divisions and the basis for racism. It’s to break down, as Paul said, that dividing wall between us, between our ethnicities and between our self-centered idolatries.”
A good reminder of our unity in Christ is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV). In God’s eyes, we are all equal…”
Any other suggestions, feedback, comments, etc..? What ways can we make peace and reconcile?
