Causes of Global Warming environment.nationalgeographic.com
“…Different greenhouse gases have very different heat-trapping abilities. Some of them can even trap more heat than CO2. A molecule of methane produces more than 20 times the warming of a molecule of CO2. Nitrous oxide is 300 times more powerful than CO2. Other gases, such as chlorofluorocarbons (which have been banned in much of the world because they also degrade the ozone layer), have heat-trapping potential thousands of times greater than CO2. But because their concentrations are much lower than CO2, none of these gases adds as much warmth to the atmosphere as CO2 does…”
A blanket around the Earth from climate.nasa.gov
“..On Earth, human activities are changing the natural greenhouse. Over the last century the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil has increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). This happens because the coal or oil burning process combines carbon with oxygen in the air to make CO2. To a lesser extent, the clearing of land for agriculture, industry, and other human activities have increased concentrations of greenhouse gases…”

Is Harvesting Palm Oil Destroying the Rainforests? scientificamerican.com
Is the increased use of palm oil-based consumer products putting the rainforests at risk?
“..But to produce palm oil in large enough quantities to meet growing demand, farmers across Southeast Asia have been clearing huge swaths of biodiversity-rich tropical rainforest to make room for massive palm plantations. Today palm oil production is the largest cause of deforestation in Indonesia and other equatorial countries with dwindling expanses of tropical rainforest. Indonesia’s endangered orangutan population, which depends upon the rainforest, has dwindled by as much as 50 percent in recent years.
The clearing of these forests is a big factor in global warming, given how much carbon dioxide (CO2) trees store when left alone. Once forests are cut, tons of CO2 heads skyward where it does the most harm. Also, when not replaced by palm oil plantations, rainforests help maintain water resources by absorbing rainfall and then releasing it into streams and rivers, thus minimizing flooding and soil depletion…”

The seemingly inescapable ingredient is responsible for deforestation and wildlife endangerment.
“..People don’t usually think about the destruction of rainforests while washing their hands, applying lipstick, or doing laundry. But thanks to high demand for products containing palm oil, which is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree, consumers are inadvertently contributing to deforestation.
Companies in countries such as Indonesia burn or chop down forests to make way for palm oil plantations. The result is severe habitat loss for orangutans and other endangered creatures. Land loss to meet the high demand for palm oil also threatens indigenous tribes because of reduced hunting area. How ubiquitous is palm oil? Here are seven everyday items that contain it.

Before the Flood
“From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens and Academy Award®-winning actor, environmental activist and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio, Before the Flood presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions we as individuals and as a society can take to prevent the disruption of life on our planet. Beyond the steps we can take as individuals, the film urges viewers to push their elected officials in supporting the use of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power. “We need everyone to demand bold action from their political leaders and to elect representatives who have their best interests at heart, not the interests of corporations to perpetuate a cycle of greed and destruction,” says DiCaprio. “This documentary shows how interconnected the fate of all humanity is — but also the power we all possess as individuals to build a better future for our planet.”..”

Documentary that includes Morris set for Feb. 11 broadcast
By email@example.com on Feb 9, 2018 at 9:02 p.m. stevenscountytimes.com
A documentary on a partnership between five Minnesota cities including Morris and their partner cities in Germany will have its broadcast premiere at 8 a.m. on Feb. 11 on TPT 2 and 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 on TPT MN.
Morris is one of five Minnesota cities in the Climate Smart Municipalities initiative. Morris is paired with Saerbeck, Germany, to work on options to address climate change. The initiative is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment.
The documentary called “Climate Smart” Cities Working Together” illustrates how cities such as Morris are “tying their communities” effort toward sustainability to the practical efforts underway in Germany, IonE director of international partnerships Sabine Engel said a news release.
Troy Goodnough of the office of sustainability at the University of Minnesota Morris is one of the participants in the Morris and Germany partnership. Goodnough, along with city officials and others, is an integral part of the Morris Model which explores and develops options to address climate change and its impact in the community.
The documentary is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the city’s partnership with Saerbeck, Goodnough said.
Goodnough was a part of a delegation that visited to Saerbeck in January to learn more about the city’s bioenergy park.
Goodnough said the two cities have much to offer each other not only in a cultural exchange but in technical assistance to address climate change.”

Bill Nye Scolds CNN for Pitting Him Against a Climate-Change Denier April 23, 2017 10:01 pm By Emma Barrie vulture.com
“..Nye, who is obviously a climate-change believer, because he’s, like, a science guy, had to face off with William Happer, a physicist and Trump’s potential top science adviser, who argued that carbon dioxide is good because people couldn’t possibly be polluting the planet. Yeah, totally! (Hold on, just going to pull a sea turtle out of these six-pack rings.) “There’s this myth that’s developed around carbon dioxide that it’s a pollutant,” Happer said, “but you and I both exhale carbon dioxide with every breath. Each of us emits about two pounds of carbon dioxide a day, so are we polluting the planet?”
After that, it looked like Bill Nye’s head was about to spin. “I will say, much as I love the CNN, you’re doing a disservice by having one climate change skeptic, and not 97 or 98 scientists or engineers concerned about climate change,” Nye said.
Happer later compared the Paris Agreement on climate change with the Munich Agreement and Nazi appeasement, which made everyone else’s head spin, too! Just watch the video above. And then go recycle something..”

Fact-checking Trump’s speech on Paris climate agreement Vanessa Schipani, Eugene Kiely, Lori Robertson and Robert Farley, FactCheck.org Published 9:21 a.m. ET June 2, 2017 | Updated 5 hours ago (June 2nd 2017)
“…President Trump made more than a few false and misleading claims:
Trump said the U.S. would be exposed to “massive legal liability if we stay in” the Paris Agreement. But there is no liability mechanism in the Paris Agreement. International environmental law experts tell us that pulling out of the agreement won’t reduce U.S. exposure to liability claims and, in fact, may increase it.
Trump called China and India the “world’s leading polluters,” referring to carbon emissions. That’s not accurate. China and the U.S. were the top emitters per kiloton in 2015.
The president also falsely said “nobody even knows where the money [in the Green Climate Fund] is going to.” The fund’s website outlines all of the projects that have been funded.
Trump said the agreement would cost “close to $3 trillion in lost GDP.” That’s one estimate from a report for a business-funded group that found a much smaller impact under a different scenario. Yet another analysis said the impact of meeting the emissions targets would be “modest.”
Trump again took credit for job gains, saying the economy has added more than a million private sector jobs since his election. That’s true, but only 493,000 of them were added since he took office…
Who Emits the Most?
Speaking about carbon emissions, Trump called China and India the “world’s leading polluters” and the U.S. the “world’s leader in environmental protection.” That’s not entirely accurate.
China and the U.S. were the top emitters per kiloton in 2015. In fact, Americans emitted more than twice as much as the Chinese and over eight times as much as Indians per capita in 2015…
Per capita, however, the U.S. pumped out more CO2 than China and India combined in 2015. On average, each individual living in the United States contributed 16.07 tons to the country’s total. But each individual living in China and India contributed 7.73 and 1.87 tons on average, respectively.
China still emits the most overall because its population is almost 1.4 billion people, while nearly 325 million live in the U.S. More than 1.3 billion people live in India…”
Fact-checking Donald Trump’s statement withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement By Jon Greenberg on Thursday, June 1st, 2017 at 6:28 p.m. politifact.com
..Trump: “China will be allowed to build hundreds of additional coal plants. So, we can’t build the plants, but they can, according to this agreement.”
Under the Paris agreement, each country publicly declares how much it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and what it will do to get there. So in that sense, the agreement doesn’t allow or disallow specific actions, like building plants.
Regardless, China has actually taken steps to stop building coal plants. In January, China stopped construction of 103 new coal-fired plants. The move sidelined scores of projects where work had already begun and put 120 gigawatts of capacity on hold….”

Now, the Question Is . . . What Does Cause Climate Change?
“…So clearly, the Earth’s temperatures rise and fall based on its exposure to . . . the sun.
Well, here’s the breaking news. And you must pay close attention . . . because what I’m about to tell you has been deemed a “forbidden theme” in the scientific community.
Talking about it gets you a black mark at the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or the World Meteorological Society.
You see, there are larger cycles of the sun . . . “solar cycles.”
This may not seem earthshattering, but solar cycles are — bar none — the most devastating argument against man-made “global warming.”
Essentially, there are times when the sun gets hotter and times when it cools off as measured by “sunspots.” And John Casey found multiple solar cycles that determine the temperatures of the Earth.
The thing about these cycles is that they are predictable, and therefore it’s not difficult to see what is coming in the years ahead.
Indeed, if scientists were paying attention to these “solar cycles” years ago, they could have told you that the Earth would get warmer during the 1990s, and then it would cool . . . just like it has.
In fact, this climate cycle, along with several other cycles, has allowed John to make 11 accurate predictions about the Earth’s climate over the past few years, and it has allowed him to make a catastrophic prediction which I will share with you in a moment.
Ironically, as John released his data on these solar cycles, the ugly lie about man-made “global warming” started leaking out.

Recent study shows Antarctica is gaining ice By: Cody Matz Posted:Dec 11 2015 01:51PM CST fox9.com
“KMSP – A study released by NASA says that Antarctica is actually increasing in overall size, adding yearly snow to parts of the continent that outweigh the loss of melting ice sheets. This new study is big news because it directly challenges the study of many others, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) report in 2013 which stated that Antarctica is losing land ice.
Scientists at NASA calculated how much the ice sheet has been growing or shrinking from the changes in surface height that are measured by satellite altimeters. In locations where the amount of new snowfall accumulating on an ice sheet is not equal to the ice flow downward and outward to the ocean and/or melting, the surface height changes and the ice-sheet mass grows or shrinks.
