Driving -Stormy Weather!

South Dakota Trip

I just went on a road-trip in the neighboring state of South Dakota last weekend. On the first day, we went through some rough weather (Tornado Watch) and didn’t realize how more serious it could’ve been if we went through it earlier until days later. The tornado watch was serious enough, but the size of the hail that was measured made it very severe!! Several days after our 3-day weekend road trip, I read a news report on CNN of hail up to 8 inches in size!! It then “hit” me that God’s timing was “perfect” when my friends from Brazil and I drove through the storm. It was some truck stop between Hartford & Salem (west of Sioux Falls along I-90).

What made this more “awing” was that before this storm, we had a detour we took back in Minnesota. It was an “unplanned” detour with my “mistake”. I never used a GPS system for driving until this road trip, which a buddy of mine had that drove. He told me that the GPS was telling him to go on this particular route, but I told him “I know my way” and it’s this way. I told him he shouldn’t trust the GPS! Well, while we took “my way” I realized I made a “mistake”. It was a detour taking away from our destination and this was going to add more time to our destination. I kept my “mouth” closed as I didn’t want to admit my mistake. Well, I was fortunate that this time my “bad decision” wasn’t costly. It turned out to be almost a “savior” as we avoided the storm. You see, we pulled over right when the storm got worse. We went inside the gas station around 9:40 pm and found out there was a Tornado Watch till 10pm. If we didn’t take that long detour, we could’ve been further west down I-90 (maybe as close to where the record size hail hit-Vivian, SD-see map)

Obscene storm structure from South Dakota!

During church this morning I reflected a lot about this how God orchestrates our life. We make plans and we get disappointed or frustrated if “our plans” don’t go the way we want it to. Life is like a “road trip”, which we “try” to make a map for a “smooth ride” to our destination. However, most “road trips” in life don’t go as smooth as we hope. I wanted to let you know that I was praying before this “road trip” from Morris to Mount Rushmore (Rapid City, SD). I was praying that this trip would go well, which it did!

Are you currently in a “detour” in your life goals or plans? Just wait in the Lord and trust in Him (Map Maker-Creator). Sometimes we don’t realize why “things happen” until later. If you haven’t given your “goals or plans” or more important your life to the Lord, I challenge you to consider giving it to Him right now. I did in 1996 and I’m glad I did. There has been bumps along the way, but I’m persevering and moving ahead!!

Driving Through Storm -Almost Reached my Destination!

Before driving to the cities, I was already alerted about the possible severe weather later in the evening, so I wanted to get to the cities early as possible and go to the Minnesota State Fair with fam. I arrived around 12:15ism pm and we got to the fair by 1ish. We left the fair at 4ish, which I would visit parents for awhile as I was tracking the forecast of this severe weather. I knew it was going to start at 8ish, but the “red/yellow/orange” (severe weather colors) didn’t look like it’ll appear till 9:30ish based on the “Weather channel app”. I didn’t leave the cities till 5:15ish. The skies were already getting dark and scary looking in front of me 20-25 minutes away going to Morris. I kept praying that I’ll get to Morris before the “severity”. Unfortunately, the “downpour” along with the pea-sized hail started 5 minutes close to my destination..

I look back and wished I left at 5ish , which was my original intention before visiting parents after coming home from the State Fair with my younger bro and his family. However, I used my pre-judgements of the Weather app radar and calculated it wrong! Why is this God’s timing? Well, before going to the State Fair. I was originally planning to go with some friends (from Brazil) early in the morning and stay at the fair all -day. I told my friends we can stay late, but need to get back by midnight (leave the fair around 9ish). Well, I would later find out in the news that there was a shooting (see

Have you experienced (e.g. driving, job-career, school, etc..) anything similar like this? I would like to hear or read your “ongoing” (big or small, short or long, etc..) experiences or journey!
